UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Yeah BOGOF has always been it's separate thing. They knew what they were doing slapping a £3.50 shipping charge just before this because it's sometimes cheaper to split your orders to get a better BOGOF deal. I'm sure that was getting abused previous years when there was no shipping charge at all. RIP to those days.

I got a couple of things. That Cardcaptors set dropping to £20 for both parts plus a bit of shipping was a no brainer for me.
And once again, the standard ANIMEUNLIMITED code doesn’t work on the BOGOF section, despite the email t&c of “for 10% off any purchase”.

Obviously, the event-specific 15% (unlimited) and 10% (newsletter) have the exclusion in the email, so I wouldn’t expect those to work, but was hoping the ‘paid for’ version was fixed.

No Chaika or Venus Wars CE's back to EB prices... :(

Yeah, I might have bit if the two Chaika sets and Akiba Maid Wars were in the sale, but then I'd have to find even more titles to add to get to the £150 free shipping threshold. I instead just bought the standard Akiba Maid Wars release directly from Sentai during their BF Sale, along with 5 other titles I don't own yet, so there's no way for me to add enough titles to get the free shipping from AL now.

With them raising the free shipping and putting random titles on sale each day instead of through the entire sale, it makes it almost impossible for international customers to put together an order with any kind of decent savings. I guess I'll be contacting them about dropping my AnimeUnLimited membership, too.

It's says not redeemable with other discount codes and the BOGOF is classed as a discount code.
I’m not referring to the discounts emailed out specifically for the ‘12 days…’ event, but the discount that you purchase as the ‘unlimited’ subscription.

The website blurb specifically emphasises ‘all’ purchases (with no exclusions), repeated in the subsequent email after purchase:
0726831E-38B3-4582-B316-E030BB232717.jpeg
And to be more pedantic; even the sale (and 15% code) emails don’t state anything like “standard discount suspended on BOGOF”, while the BOGOF pages detail no exclusions.

I still went ahead and bought the subscription (earlier in the year) knowing they’re bad at honouring the details, simply because it nets me enough of a saving anyway. But there’s still a disconnect between the advert and application.

It's really unclear on Anime Limited's part, and it doesn't help that their website is all over the place. The terms and conditions for the Anime Unlimited membership are seemingly scattered all over the place and there isn't even any information regarding your cancellation rights.

However, I did find this email I received when I initially signed up for Anime Unlimited membership:

It states here that the 10% off for members may not be redeemable alongside other special offers (e.g., B1G1F), so this probably gets AL out of jail for that.

Although, they really need to have a dedicated terms and conditions page for their membership, to make it clear exactly what you are signing up for and what is and isn't redeemable against the membership discount.

But this here, basically means they can decide as they please which items can apply against the regular 10% off discount code.

Although, reading this back, I never got my magazine! (Whatever that was supposed to be, haha).

Early bird prices on previous recent releases are gonna be reduced on I think it was a couple of days the 12/ go live on (but no idea which of the 2-12 days they will be), or that what I got from there live stream.

And yeah BOGOF and discounts code not mixing is kinda annoying (but nothing new to us) espcially with the £50 (well more like £55/60 for BOGOF's) free postage threshold. The only thing that has helpped is the price ranges in the BOGOF is only the 2 this year of £9.99 & £19.99 (oh wait there is a 3rd for 4k stuff at £29.99)

With the paid postage being £50 all offers should be from day 1 and flash sales are just annoying. Some stuff you might want would sell out by the time you can order stuff added later on.

I suspect the implementation of a minimum spend for free shipping was not only done in part to cover the cost of increasing shipping costs, but also to increase sales.

More people will be trying to fill up their basket to meet the £50 threshold, whereas before you could get away with just ordering a single B1G1F deal for £19.99 or a single £9.99 Blu-ray with free shipping.

Now, psychologically the customer is thinking I need to spend £30 more to get free shipping... I might as well add another B1G1F set and a few little things to get it over £50. This will no doubt increase the average value of their customer's baskets. It's a subtle form of upselling.

This will also help them logistically as they're not having to prepare and ship as many smaller orders that are valued at £10-£40. Of course, there are negatives to this as you may turn away customers that only want to buy a few things. However, as someone else mentioned, I don't think it's a coincidence they have implemented this shortly before the start of the Xmas sale, where customers are more likely to indulge and place larger orders anyway.

With regards to the flash sales, we may just have to bite the bullet. If the prices are as good as last year, they'll still be the cheapest price available, even with the addition of £3.50 postage if under £50.

Funny part is it orders over £50 will usually be shipped with UPS thus costing more to AL.

That cost may be offset by the increase in sales overall, I'm guessing that's what they're hoping for anyway. I'm making an educated guess that AL sell more in the UK than they do in Ireland, just going by population numbers.

Definitely as I mentioned in another thread Barbie was the highest selling home video release in Ireland last year selling just over 4,700 copies. Most anime will be lucky to break triple digits.

Is that just local Ireland sales though most people would use Amazon etc for blurays which would be counted as U.K. sales?
