Anime Central to be taken off the air!

In all honesty, who's going to sit up past 12 at night watching tele? (Apart from the pervs who watch porn).
But people need something else to watch during the "story" parts...

AC was tripe anyway. The one thing that I thought would attract a lot of viewers (Bleach) just fizzled out, and it's about six years too late for Bebop.

It seems I stand corrected over the all-night TV. :)

In any case, my original point stands: Anime Central's air time was just inadequate, especially considering Anime is still pretty much a niche market.

Hopefully times will change and Anime & Manga become more mainstream.
Then we can have our dream of a dedicated channel!

Anime Central was a sattelite channel I take it?

Yes. It may have been on Freeview as well but we got rid of our Freeview box before Anime Central launched, so I don't know.

At the time there was no more Bleach for them to show.....
And now there is.

But what do I know about the wacky world of tv airings where we can get seveal episodes ahead on things and often air the finalés of power ranger series before the americans and such?

People may moan about how AC's air time wasn't ideal or whatever, but the fact is it was impossible for it to air any earlier due to it sharing a time slot with PopGirl (a sister channel of CSC). So if PopGirl was on, AC wasn't, and vice versa.

And personally, with anime being as niche as it is, it wouldn't have been ideal for it to run through the day.

I feel it will definately become more mainstream. Two or three years ago, I wasn't expecting to have a dedicated anime channel (well half dedicated with POP takinging up the channel most of the time). I'm sure that give a few years and there'll be more again. AC and AN were both short lived but a sign for things to come.
Really, we say it's a niche market (which it is in the UK) however have you seen some of those channels on sky? Who the hell watches some of these channels? I sure as hell don't get the urge to watch Channel Punjab, 24 Psychics Channel etc. I'm sure there are some viewers but enough have them running for the ammount of time they have been running. Not fair like.
At the moment we know very little about True Entertainment. We can only guess or here rumours that it just mite still supply a source of anime to the masses (in some form or other). Nobody knows for sure.

Considering that air times in Japan for some of these titles was in the 2300 - 0600 time slot as well, we were lucky to get them at 2100. Also something can not become "mainstream" if the masses swimming in the stream know nothing about it. Fans like us only swim in our little fish bowl of fandom so don't count. The only way the masses are going to become interested is if they are told it exists in the first place, and the only way to do that is advertising in the mass media, not just in fan mags and websites that only fans frequently visit. As far as I know this didn't happen with AC. But that is only meeting them half way as next AC has to provide the programming that they are advertising. Until we see for ourselves we can only speculate just what will be on "True Entertainment" but the title sounds like it's going to be about bio-dramas and docu-dramas about true stories, or events in history, or the news. But I'll hazard a guess that it will have other programmes sprinkled in with one, or two anime titles. Something like Propeller TV, but with a sprinkling of anime on top.

That's what I was worried about. Real lives? My Dog Needs to Lose Weight? Bre your own wine hour? Wait, maybe a bit too random there.... ...but yeah, I have had a good scour around on forums and such. I've heard mostly that it's going to be a toon channel but with a name like True Entertainment what will we be expecting? The toon information was supposed to be from an officail source but I never saw it.

Make your own wine. Brew your own beer. How to refine your own Diesel. I'd watch those.
Been there and done that (beer that is). Diesel would be a good one. Last year TOP GEAR showed you how to plant seeds that produce diesel. Then used it in a 24 hr race. It was cool.
Be a pain like, not to mention youd have to plant like 20 plants to 1 mins driving.

What did your beer taste like? Better or worse than store bought?

First batch tasted nicer than I expected but got a bit sickly after a while. The rest just kinda tasted like your standard Guest Ales. Some quite quite nice and others worthy of flushing.... tried making fizzy larger once but I made myslef ill... never again.

Well its changed again on wiki, they said anime would be changin from AnimeCentral to True Entertainment on the 20th aug but now there sayin that Anime Central is movin to channel 188 on sept 1. CSC are just anoyig me now why is the only way to find information on then is wiki!!

Animax is a Pay-Channel. They don't broadcast in the UK as they don't/can't get the license to do so, Even though the UK harps on about being part of the EU, we're not!! Animax hold licenses to broadcast to mainland Europe, we are neither mainland, nor Europe...

We're better off hoping for a cartoon channel like Jetix or Cartoon Network (adult Swim in the US is on Cartoon Network, over here it's relegated to late night Bravo viewing) allocating an anime spot without concentrating on the kiddie anime and showing some more mature stuff, we;re not talking Urotsukidoji here, but Fullmetal Alchemist type stuff, what about Pumpkin Scissors or Busgo Tenken or whatever the hell it's called...

Animax have a broadcast license for the UK, they just don't bother.

As for AC info on Wikipedia, take it with a pinch of salt. I've done some updating but one of the editors is a bit over zealous and makes very dangerous claims based on very little info. eg. the claim that True Entertainment was going to start this weds.

It's not that at all. Having a licence is only half of it. They can't get a channel on any of the birds that illuminate the UK. They are all fully booked.
