What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?

Did you know this was a spin off from Dangermouse? - Count Duckula was a recurring villian in that series. I was less of a kid and more of a teenager by the time this came along so it was less of a novelty. I'll have to stick with the original and best

What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?

Here's something to show my age: The haziest, most distant, but also fondest memories come from Ulysses 31 and Battle of the Planets (only now, 20+ years later do I discover their relevance to anime) Thought that U31 had the best theme tune known to man at the time - just youtubed it...not...

    J-Rock/Pop any fans here?

Trashbat, Rolling Star, Lupus Inu - thx for your responses :D I feared that I might have to put some work into it :? Had hoped that I could more passively let my ears do the work listening to a radio station or such like - something I could do whilst I work at my PC. Looks like I’ll have...

    J-Rock/Pop any fans here?

I'm yet to dip my toe into the world of J-music - pretty sure there's whole load of stuff there that will spark-up my ears in interest; I just need to hear it. I listen to a lot of internet radio to find music that tickles my taste buds...don't suppose anyone knows of or can recommend any...

    Korean dramas

I really don’t know where I got that impression from... Something I was musing over – maybe Tokyo-Chris is equipped to answer: Is there much to distinguish between Korean TV drama and Japanese TV drama - is it something the Korean’s do better by some chance? And how does...

    Korean dramas

Seen a bunch of Korean films that have cropped up on Film4 of late, but never thought to seek out any K-drama. Curiosity got the better of me and I’ve been checking this out, wasn't sure what to expect but, yes…I was indeed pleasantly surprised :D I like a bit of good anime but there was...

What are you watching right now

Richard & Judy...have I no shame? Had a reasonably entertaining interview with Simon Peg and Nick Frost mind. Last Top Gear did make an interesting change - devoting the whole episode to their ‘American adventure’. Bit that made me laugh the most was Clarkson's in-car cooling...

    The Shojo Manga Thread

On the topic of NANA… Not sure why I need to know, but I was just curious as to what chapter/volume in the manga the anime episodes have reached? Also – what chapter is SB magazine up to? Guess I’d just like to know where people are up to in the storyline

    The Shojo Manga Thread

X was the very first manga I picked up, just this last summer – being new to the whole thing it was the one manga on the shelves that looked like I might enjoy - partly impressed by the artwork and partly drawn to what seemed like a good blend of drama, characters, action and fantasy. I have...

    WTFDM Promotes 'Haibane Renmei'

Yeah, did enjoy it in the end, I was wavering a little but the last episode or so managed to tip the scales. I think though that perhaps I was hoping for a greater exploration of the characters in one way or another. I was wondering if this comes from reading too much shojo, the best of...

    Books / Literature

Polished off another Murakami book - this time A Wild Sheep Chase - curious little tale, pretty much as it says on the tin, although the actually nature of the sheep in question and the reason for chasing it are what make it intriguing. After revealing in Norwegian wood and being thoroughly...

    WTFDM Promotes 'Haibane Renmei'

I’ve been renting this series over the last few months (fairly spread out as there is only 4 discs), just finished the last disc this morning, but I’ll get to that shortly. Had high hopes for this and was encouraged after being impressed by the first volume – I appreciated it’s...

What are you watching right now

Takeshi's Castle on Ftn It's Japanese and pretty silly - bit like a cross between It's a Knockout and that Endurance thing that Clive James used to show. More often than not involves falling into muddy water when the contestants fail to cross the deviously designed obstacles. Can be a bit...

You wouldn’t be thinking that was me would you? Rented vol.3 from amazon only the other week – seemed fine when I had it, and my DVD player is particularly fussy. I can only imagine you more than likely had a different copy. Worst I’ve had were RahXephon discs 1-3 – one of...

    Mighty Boosh

Big fan of the Boosh, can’t get enough of them – done both series, the live dvd and caught their apperance on Amnesty International - must try and get to see them properly live one day. Keep meaning to get hold of the radio series – doesn’t matter that it overlaps with the tv, still...

    The All Things Furuba Thread

Finally got round to watching the last disc of the anime a number of weeks ago now, but before that I had already given into the temptation of the scanlations and read the manga right from the start through to around where the anime finishes. I think they did a nice job of concluding the anime...

    Your anime viewing journal

Been a bit lax with my journal duties of late, so I’ll keep it brief so as not to bore you all with reams of writing. And save myself the brain ache of cobbling together all the words. What-I-bin-watching: Haibane Renmei Vol.3, Gantz Vol.3, Azumanga Daioh Vol.3, Last Exile Vol.4, Samurai...

Wheres your best Bet to get more Manga...

You should hop on the train and get yourself over to Leeds - must only be about 10 min from Bradford Interchange. Not only do you have a Borders and Waterstones but more significantly there is a reasonably sized Forbidden Planet - they also more often than not seem to have a "3 for £15" deal...

    Solty Rei

Just so happens it's one of the DVDs reviewed over on ANN in their Shelf Life Column this week. Considered "Shelf Worthy" - so can't be too shabby.
