July Haul #6

This part focuses on the items from Saturday 25th leading to Friday 31st.

Hybrid Haul 2026 - Capcom Arcade Stadium & Hi-Fi Rush 1.webp

#10: DAN DA DAN Season 2
Next we have a pre-order that actually arrived on time from Anime Limited once again. I was supposed to receive Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM but it was pushed back into August and fortunately DAN DA DAN Season 2 shipped out.

The second season of this Shonen Jump series adapted by Science SARU is a lot of fun to watch and there’s more to come which is great. I found it interesting that we are using Com’on Screen discs this time around but I have heard that GKIDS were dropping the ball on their disc authoring as of late so its a fortunate ordeal. I know this French authoring company has been meme’d to death but I have been made aware they’re slowly improving their processes, at least for the French audiences.

You can view more photos & specs on my blog.

#11: Haikyu!! Seasons 1 & 2
Next we have the first of hopefully many pickups from the Crunchyroll UK Summer Sale that’s started across different retailers. I’ve not really picked up any titles from them as of late (with the exception of Konosuba Season 3 as that was a gift) due to pricing, but I do want to at least grab a couple over the course of August.

Volleyball anime series Haikyu!! Seasons 1 & 2 finally join my collection and it’s a pretty exciting one. I have seen at least the first three seasons when they first aired and Crunchyroll UK are in fact releasing all of the anime seasons onto home video which is a surprise considering Sentai Filmworks handled the distribution in North America. Seasons 3 & 4 are scheduled for the August & September timeframe so I wanted to grab what was available right now. These are Sentai discs with Crunchyroll's logo at the start (might be imports of the Australian releases in fact), but are region locked to B instead of being geolocked like Sentai's were.

Armour of God 4K - 07.webp

#12: Armour of God
Arriving near the end of the month is an early arrival though technically it was originally supposed to have been released in June. Jackie Chan’s 1986 film Armour of God (龍兄虎弟) is another one from the 88 Films catalogue that has been re-released once again for the 4K Ultra HD format. Pretty much any film directed or starring Jackie Chan have been getting this treatment as long as there’s access to a 4K restoration. I do own the Blu-ray deluxe collector’s edition release and this one is packaged differently to match the recent 4K releases. 88 Films’ webstore also included an o-card slipcase with theatrical artwork on the covers.

This film also stars Alan Tam (Hard Boiled II: The Last Blood), Lola Forner (Wheals on Meals), Rosamund Kwan Chi-Lam (Once Upon a Time in China), and Ken Boyle (Bloodsport). The deluxe limited edition release includes a double-sided poster and a big book going over the film’s background and production.

Hybrid Haul 2026 - Fear Effect 2 & Killzone Trilogy.webp

#13: Fear Effect 2 & Killzone Trilogy
The final package of the month comes from Canadian retailer Video Games Plus and it’s a mix of two different games.

The first is Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix which is the second game in the franchise developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment in 2001 for the original PlayStation and brought over to modern platforms by Limited Run Games on behalf of Square Enix, so what I have is the PlayStation 5 version. I have the first one that used a variant cover but they never planned one for the second game so I went with what was available.

The second is the Killzone Trilogy collection for PlayStation 3. This sci-fi dystopian first-person shooter series was developed by Guerrilla Games and is one of the big IPs from Sony during that generation. I did own physical versions for Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 but I decided to sell those copies in favour of this collection for two reasons; one is that it is much better for shelf-space and the other reason is because we have Killzone HD on the disc.

Killzone HD is a remaster of the PlayStation 2 game and the European version is very expensive (like we’re talking £100+ just for that one game alone) so it made more logical sense to just grab the North American release. Now you do need to install it onto the HDD but it’s only 3030MB and I suspect the UK version is a similar case. Also included in this trilogy pack is a download code for all of the multiplayer maps for both Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 which is neat especially since online multiplayer is free on the console.

You must have indeed ordered very early once the Sentai sale started. I ordered on the first day around 4-5 hours after it started I think, and Azumanga Daioh was already sold out. Probably sold even earlier as I'm sure I took some time looking through what from my want list was on sale before ordering, and I never saw it as available.

Because of the weekly doorbuster items, I also made two orders, though ended up only getting one of the doorbuster items. I too got 2.5 Dimensional Seduction though only the standard edition, and as I had enough things I wanted to get their free shipping in two separate orders, I split them up in case there was anything in the later weeks I wanted added but there turned out to not be.

I was hoping to add Yandere Dark Elf's steelbook to the list (as well as a few other titles that were released in May/June) but it wasn't included in the sale (makes sense as it only just got released) though I reckon it'll show up in the Black Friday sale.

Loner Life in Another World's steelbook is in my Part 2 haul which was the other title I was after.

I was looking for From Bureaucrat to Villainess which is also May so figured it may not make it since it was that new, but the point of those doorbusters does look to be they put things on sale there that otherwise are too recent to be on sale.

It looks like this summer sale and the Black Friday one, which if they still do like they used to, ends for just a few days and then restarts through most of December, are their two sales with most things on sale and at lower prices now, with most of their other sales with smaller selections and lower discounts. It's understandable as they used to drop prices so quickly and by a larger percentage that I think it devalued their products where there was a lot of people just waiting for the bargain prices. I think the changes started after they were bought by AMC Networks.

Loner Life in Another World
is one I hadn't paid attention to but looking at a few clips now looks like something I will like. I might have ignored it confusing it with some other show--the English titles for some of these isekai are a little too generic and similar to each other.

And last but not least is Osamu Tezuka’s A Thousand & One Nights, Eiichi Yamamoto’s 1969 film produced by Mushi Production and the first instalment of the Animerama trilogy with Cleopatra and Belladonna of Sadness. Similar to Cleopatra, this is also a double-dip purchase as I own Third Window’s Blu-ray release from years back and the main addition for this Discotek Media release is the inclusion of a long-lost English dub which is neat. This film, despite its fanservice, is honestly a pretty fun time and worth a watch if you want a classic Arabian style anime adventure. Discotek Media released the film on Blu-ray in November 2020.

I really like this film too and enjoyed Belladonna of Sadness also, not finished Cleopatra though! Azumanga Daioh also really takes me back I still have the ADV thinpak DVD boxset and I must have watched it all at least 2-3 times English subbed and seen the early episodes at least 2 to 3 times more than that (sorry for not quoting the Azumanga Daioh post as well) :)

Usually I'd file this under 'why post on AUKN', but since other photos: these were random birthing day gifts. As much as I agree with the second statement, I fear my mother has not understood what I was right about going on... 🦁. 'Twas a mistake teaching her how to buy things online.

These are some more... on topic photos I guess? Gifts from 'Codename: F'. Much like zrdb, I speak not Germanic beyond 'NEIN!', yet my copy of Nioh is in German. The steelbook also lacks a title on the spine, which briefly reawakened my Gankutsuou/Andrew trauma. 'Tis nice looking though. Golden Sheep I believe was inspired by my choice of a wool mattress, and Juden by a combo of seeking to cure my depression and his... golden affinity for KissxSis.

These I ended up receiving on birthing day unintentionally, having ordered them for myself, for only through solitude can I attain greater power. And yes, the irony of receiving DandaDAN today, not as a gift, is not lost on me. 'F' betrayed meeee.

...oh, and I did take a photo of this sealed - having put it up as a bday gift for someone - but t'would be a pity not to show the steelbook, and I did kindasorta receive it today. Thus:

PS: CeX also gave me this as a gift, and I them a most unhappy email.

'Tis all.

I received my order from Crunchyroll that I placed last month ahead of the upcoming CR Store lockdown. I did notice that CR had raised the prices of their in stock standard titles by 15% so that it nullified my 15% Ultimate discount I get, so those still ended up at their regular price of $47.99. And of course Aniplex of America titles are just plain expensive all the time. Ah well.

I'm also making an order of preorder titles before the lockdown. But, since I'm currently paying for an Ultimate Fan level annual subscription which doesn't expire until March of 2027, I'll still have full access to their store for seven more months. At least I'll be able to see what they actually do with the store once it is locked down behind the paywall, and see if they give us any kind of random deals in place of the lost Membership discounts, or just royally screw us over. Here are the four Crunchyroll and 3 Aniplex titles I picked up, along with an anime soundtrack LP :

Wistoria Wand And Sword Season 1
In the Land Of Leadale
I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths!
My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1
Blue Exorcist - The Blue Night Saga
Rurouni Kenshin -Kyoto Disturbance- Volume 1
Rurouni Kenshin -Kyoto Disturbance- Volume 2
Josee the Tiger and the Fish Vinyl Soundtrack LP

'Tis all.
I'm curious-what's exclusive about the amazon edition of Juden chan? It looks exactly like my bd set of it except for the amazon blurb on the front.

Young Black Jack.
Bottom part of the box is smashed.
Posted Monday so that part was good.

Smashed from shipping damage, or apparently otherwise?

I ask that because of two things I got from the recent Sentai sale, where it looks like the blu-ray packaging plant is using damaged and used blu-ray cases. Both disc sets were sealed in the typical cellophane with the "disc made in Mexico" stamp on it so it was still the original seal. I know when something is shrinkwrapped instead it could have been a reseal.

One of the two cases had a piece missing out of the upper spine corner, yet that piece was not inside anywhere so the case was already broken when it was sealed. The other was in one of the awful eco cases with all the holes (which Sentai normally never uses anymore) and the plastic overlay has the crinkling warping damage that only happens when a case is shrinkwrapped tightly and the heat from the process makes it do that. To reiterate, it was not shrinkwrapped but in the usual cellophane that isn't all that tight, so the case had been shrinkwrapped previously, somewhere, so apparently used before.

I've never had this happen before and was pretty disappointed with seeing it. I should have complained but didn't expect anything would come of it if they even understood what I was talking about.
