SKETCHBOOK ~full color'S~ is now available to pre-order. The 2007 slice-of-life series previously released by Nozomi Entertainment on DVD is now back in print for Blu-ray under the AnimEigo label. This is available for UK/IE users to order.
Extras include Picture Dramas, Promo Video, Commercials, Music Video & Textless Songs. The series is scheduled for release on 11th August 2026 for SRP $39.95. MediaOCD's store includes an exclusive o-card slipcase.

Good news, Discotek Media have done another Deep Dive batch for the MediaOCD Store.
Bad news, MediaOCD have geo-locked the entire website so at the moment you can't order anything because its not available in your region. I'm guessing its a bug on their system because they just revamped the website.

Interesting news about the much delayed Vampire princess miyu ova Bluray (copied from the newsletter)
Well over a year ago, waaaay back in February 2025, we announced the restored HD Blu-ray release of Vampire Princess Miyu. And since then... nothing. What happened?
Welp, we finished the disc, and sent the packaging off to Japan for it to get approved, which is a requirement when you work with anime professionally. We had some good back-and-forth initially, but ultimately we simply could not get this approval to the finish line. Due to the way the copyright system works over there, we hit a procedural log jam. We've made absolutely no progress in over a year.
We've done everything we could think of to rectify the situation, but unfortunately, this is not going to get fixed. Worse, we discovered that our contract for the show (which we inherited from the previous owners of AnimEigo), ran out much sooner than we expected: next year. That means that we're basically out of time to do a proper release.
But we had this gorgeous HD remaster of a gorgeous show, just sitting there. The wall we hit with approvals would likely make it impossible for anyone to release it in the future. What a waste!
So we're doing something ridiculous. We're releasing this disc on our own site, without artwork or design to approve. Yes, it's a completely blank cover.
While we... obviously can't do a proper release with a package like this, the limited release we're giving Miyu lets us have some fun with this. Look out for some fun opportunities to be creative once this ships.
The disc will ship EXCLUSIVELY from MediaOCD.com on or before September 8, 2026. This will give us enough time to gauge demand and make enough copies to last us roughly until our license period expires next year. Preorders are up now!

I'll be buying this. Partly because I want to upgrade my ancient VHS copy of the series, but also to send a message that a solution like this is acceptable when the alternative is not releasing the show at all.

Discotek Media have revealed four brand new license announcements, one of which is also an upgrade from their DVD catalogue.
Digimon Tamers, the third season in the Digimon franchise, is coming to Blu-ray in two separate sets; one for the original Japanese version, and another for the classic English dub broadcast version. The latter will be released first like the previous seasons.
︀︀Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers), the classic shoujo anime series by Toei Animation that aired in 1996-97 for 51 episodes straight, is coming to Standard Definition on Blu-ray in a complete collection alongside the 30 minute 1997 anime film also by Toei. This series was previously released on DVD by Discotek back in October 2016 so it's been 10 years.
Journey to Japan: The Kyoto Connection (ポルノの女王 にっぽんSEX旅行), the 1973 live-action Japanese film by Sadao Nakajima (The Japanese Godfather Trilogy, The Rapacious Jailbreaker) is coming to Blu-ray from Discotek's Nihon Nights label. Considering the director's catalogue, I do recommend probably holding off on importing the film as I can see this being released in the UK at some point.
Kamen Rider: Skyrider (仮面ライダー(新) / スカイライダー), the 1979-80 live-action Japanese tokusatsu series by Shotaro Ishinomori and the sixth instalment in the long-running Kamen Rider franchise is coming to Blu-ray from Discotek's TOKU TIME label. Enjoy 54 episodes of tokusatsu action with this HD remaster when it gets released later this year.

Not quite 3 years for me; I bought it November 2023 and haven't watched it.
My understanding is SD-BD should look better due to better compression quality; if that's true I'd be willing to get this. If I do, it'll be the first Discotek release I've bought in a very long time since most of what they release, especially lately, isn't for me.

The biggest improvement for me to get an SDHD of a series over DVD is that the subtitles are rendered in HD, so they are much sharper and less blocky than Standard Definition subtitles on a DVD. I watch anime only in Japanese with subs, so the higher quality subtitles are a big plus for me.

I wondered about that but didn't know if it was the case. That definitely makes it worth it because all DVD subtitles I've seen are huge and also pretty unattractive where they tend to kind of spoil the experience for me.

While that's possible, it's not a foregone conclusion, especially since Discotek tend to be top tier for their DVD encodes too. While not always the case, Discotek often seem to do SD on BD when the source materials available from the licensor aren't of great quality, and therefore wouldn't benefit significantly from upscaling. Since you already have the DVDs, I would suggest watching an episode before double-dipping to see how they look.
The other thing to bear in mind about SD on BD is that it creates a single point of failure for a whole series. If a DVD fails, you lose a few episodes. If an SD-BD fails, you can lose 40+.

Valid points. With regular blu-ray, I'm ambivalent about what Discotek does. Their encoding tends to be ok, but it could certainly be better if they didn't try to cram so much data onto a single disc, putting twelve episodes on a single disc instead of the 6-12 that Crunchyroll or others do. Old Discotek releases in general weren't that good, but this DVD release was from I think about 10 years ago so not that old.
Anecdotal personal experience, but I've had quite a few DVDs that no longer play because of disc rot, and so far I haven't had a blu-ray do this so I'm more trusting of blu-ray than DVD in that respect. At my age, most discs are likely to outlast me now.
Yes I plan to look at my DVDs before buying something else.
