The Gundam Thread

I recently found out Heero is not called that because he's the hero. Heero Yuy is derived from hitotsu (one) and yuitsu (only) because a lot of Gundam Wing characters are named after numbers. But Heero's name means 'The One and Only'. Which is possibly the coolest name you could have. While also making the reveal that he's codename Heero Yuy II even bolder.

Since I'm apparently getting stung for extras of these, would anyone be interested in purchasing either of the GQuuuuuuX Link Travellers sets? They're little chibi action figures you assemble. Thanks to HLJ's new management I'll have extra (they removed the ability to amend/cancel open orders) 53641.jpg53640.jpgso looking to make money back.

I really hate them doing that as I'm now left with random "This will never get a re-release but worth trying" orders I cant cancel lol

Chaos Cards have sent a £5 off £25 birthday coupon, tempting me to buy some more gunpla but my unbuilt pile ☠️

Valid for a year so might hold out or buy a 30MM or 30MS kit for something different

It's a really crappy change from a company that for decades has always been flexible right up to the release date. Sometimes it's just not in the budget to afford something months later when the release comes. With Bandai stuff in particular, they tend to drip feed gimmick updates well after the preorder window so I'd often preorder multiples and prune when the time comes.

December Gundam Base drop was... awkward.

I was second in live (arriving just after 6am) and the 4 hour wait was fine. But the moment they let us in...Jesus Christ. Pushing, shoving, racing to snatch stuff of shelves. Was a baffling 180 in tone.

I've long wanted Gundam to be more popular here but behaviour like that is just stupid!

Was coming to post that translated trailer, after it popped up in my feed.

I know nothing of what's to come bar being spoiled on the very end - watching Hathaway blind, with only Gundamu Origins (manga) for context - but as far as "Neuroticism" goes, Gigi like many-a-woman can see plunging his righteous AmuroxChar hybrid quest for justice into peril. The green-haired girl from Char movie seems the trigger for everything, after all.

That said, I'm mainly 'ere for some of Sawano's best music, the presentation (city sequence in first film was amazing in how convincing was; the trees, giant bullet shells landing etc) and maybe for some Gundamu closure.

Me worrying I'm cringe in this thread.View attachment 42636
No-one likes to admit them; the follies of one's youth~

Absolutely. The first movie felt like Hathaway was trying to be an infallible figure who operates above all human concerns and a human who can become obsessed over his actions impacting two people he’s known for a day. Trying to avoid the mistakes of Char and Amuro and his own younger self. Without being able to fully move in any direction because they aren’t compatible beliefs. With Gigi just being able to talk to him like an equal meaning he’s suddenly very fixated on her opinions and approval when he really wanted to sit in a dark corner eating sushi.

So I’m really interested to see how that relationship develops now that the stakes have been raised and they’ve both developed their beliefs further, while also seemingly realised how different they are.

It did strike me as odd when Hathaway briefly went off script trying to protect Gigi, amidst the chaos of the battle in the city (still not sure what his role was during that). He must have been mentally all over the shop. I was so taken with the visuals/set-piece I let it slide at the time.

I didn't know what to make of Gigi in the first film, in terms of her motivations going forward beyond being a love interest for Hathaway and that guy on opposing side: her psychic NewType mind reading (or whatever was: NewType lore only came in back-end Origins, and I was more interested in the war), but it definitely allowed her to pierce through Hathaway's facade. I assume is what you meant by talking as equals. She's certainly direct and cares little for other's opinions so far.

The most fascinating aspect for me, which drew me to the first movie, is Amuro's/Char's differing ideals being combined into one character, as a sort of epilogue for the whole saga. He doesn't want to go as far nuking the planet from orbit but is willing go far beyond anything Amuro would. Much like how his character seems muddled emotionally, his goal is equally hazy as there's no real compromise between Amuro/Char. Or at least that's my take, not having watched Zeta/Char Kunta, which seems to go with yours. He's a very interesting character as everything he does is in conflict. Which makes me wonder how he managed to head up a terrorist group...

"Coming to theaters across the US".

Being a Gundam fan anywhere outside of Japan, China or America is like being trapped in a loveless marriage.

The spark had faded and now we were left with a one sided passion. Bandai regarded me with a dismissive glare that revealed how little my country mattered in their eyes. Certainly on the brief occasions we were together they were nakedly imagining being with another country. No level of sincere commitment from me would deter them from that chosen path...
