UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Release date updates:
  • Bleach Part 9 - Moved from 3rd November to 8th December
  • Call of the Night Season 1 - Moved from 27th October to 17th November to 19th January 2026
  • The Dangers in my Heart Season 1 - Moved from 17th November to 15th December to 19th January 2026
  • Diebuster - Moved from 10th November to 24th November to 15th December
  • I'm Standing on a Million Lives - Moved from 19th May to 4th August to 6th October to 17th November to 19th January 2026
So as a result of ordering two things together in a order, I won't be getting Bleach Part 5 (which was bundled with I'm Standing on a Million Lives) and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (which was bundled with Call of the Night Season 1) until January as well.

Uh-oh, please lets not start back in with the 6-month+ delays on all their CE sets...

If they delay the Perfect Blue 4K set past December, I'll be dropping it off my pre-order and just order the US set instead, so it doesn't further delay the rest of my UK order. I also have 3 in-stock CE sets in that order I want to receive sooner than later, so any holdup on getting those will be with the Diebuster and Perfect Blue pre-orders.

Quite frustrating considering that they stated at MCM that there were no new announcments due to wanting to focus on getting the current announced slate out...
I'm calling it now: next they will state that there will be no new announcements for the 12 Days of Christmas Sale just like last year cause they want to focus on getting already announced stuff out only to just delay stuff more.

It’s completely understandable to focus on the current slate if you are faced sudden production issues that need resolving. I just want to buy things and if we are getting Galaxy Express 999 then I’d love to have a window at least.

There is nothing wrong with being ambitious which is clearly the case with ATA these days but given that at least half of their releases have production related delays it's indicative of some problems they have definitely not made public. When compared t MVM who have a more modest slate and who seem to have focused on standard releases versus the ATA multi tired approach for a lot of titles it can be quite frustrating.

If ATA want to improve I think they should eat the delivery cost to deliver part orders when a slippage is on their side. This would give their organisation a bigger incentive to fix these consistent problems.

I believe I've said it before, & I will say it again...

Anime Limited should not be putting any title up for Early Bird on their website UNTIL the stock of said title is finished & ready to ship.
Yeah I agree at this point. It doesn't help that there's been zero communication with the delays to anyone who's ordered them so it wouldn't surprise me if only those who are in the anime forum scene like us folks who would know when its coming out.

I wouldn't have minded the delays if they allowed partial shipment to make up for it but sadly that won't happen.

Curious to see how the November early bird slate will be handled.

That sucks had the same issue on other sites with those issues. Why I've been pre ordering everything individually going forward.

Someone correct me if they have more information, but I believe the only reason small companies like AL offer pre-order discounts is so they can gauge the level of demand. That then informs how many copies they order from the duplication company in the first pressing. If they stopped accepting orders for new releases until they had stock on-hand, they would probably stop offering discounts too.

Given the short timeframe between Early Bird & Street Date one should assume that in most cases the production run is already pre-determined, as some items included might require a longer time for production, assembling & actual delivery.

Some larger titles however, thinking of e. g. NGE & Your Name, got increased later due to popular demand - but they had a way larger timeframe between Early Bird & ship date.

I mean my repeated cautionary comparison is ADV, a company that promised way more to anime fans than they could ever hope to deliver.

It's why in my case I whinge about Gundam- AL chose to create a sub brand, The Gundam Collection. You do that out the gate with a cornerstone anime franchise and you are immediately creating a specific expectation in customer's minds.

It's in turn why not making more announcements at MCM was probably for the best. We've been here so many times with AL now and something has to give. They need to find a way to get their ducks in a row and have it stick.

This is probably my biggest issue with them, their terrible communication. Pretty much every collectors edition I have ordered in the last year has had some sort of delay and not once have they sent a message to say why or how long the delay will be. I fully understand that delays happen but to not even send out a courtesy email is unacceptable considering they have already taken our money.

They are also terrible for responding to correspondence. Whenever I have sent an email about something it usually takes a few days to even receive an automated acknowledgement reply and even longer to get a response from an actual person. They should really look at how companies like MVM treat their customers. I had a defective disc in a bluray set, I emailed them mid morning, had a reply asking for my address to send a replacement disc to early in the afternoon and it arrived two days later!

I have bought so much less from them this year, the delays with collectors editions is bad enough as are the completely uninspired sales but even standard editions such as Oddtaxi have literally no incentive to buy from AL as they are charging £10 over everywhere else plus £3.50 postage on top.

I know physical Anime releases are a pretty niche market and we need companies like AL to keep it going but it honestly feels like sometimes they take their customers for granted and it isn't a nice feeling :(

They have definitely been getting worse on this front. Until a few years ago they used to at least send emails about delays sometimes. Communicating delays to paying customers really shouldn't be something they feel they can push to the bottom of the priority list. It also shouldn't be time-consuming on their part. If their merchant software doesn't have the facility for sending targeted email templates, then just an MS Office mail merge could do it (I still use these at work sometimes). And if their software can't do something as basic as exporting customer details to a spreadsheet, then they need to question if it's fit for purpose.

At a bare minimum they could send a monthly email of release date updates to newsletter subscribers. They send promotional emails on an almost daily basis already. One more shouldn't be an issue.

Usually for a new title, the minimum print run is 1000, with reprints being 500 (this is just taking into account standard releases). So regardless of how many orders a title might have, it would still need to have 1000 made. I think the pre-order discount is more of a way of just saying "thank you for supporting us by buying from us direct". I'm sure this applies to all small companies, both AL and ourselves.
