UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

I’m not sure what to make of this from the description, and the current £17 price point is a big jump for blind buy of standard editions.
So I’m hoping Monday brings with it some CE/SE (or steelbook) early bird or re-offer to take off that £2 postage.

Would I have found £15 more palatable? I dunno. It seems like £12.99 would have been a nicer figure, but I just hate paying postage!
Or you could add a £1.99 DVD to the order to nudge it over £15. You pay the same and get something else to watch. I recommend Ninja Battle as pure schlock.

No. The postage limit is £30 now. :-(

I found this out with last weeks’ DOTW.
At least I now know it wasn’t just me taken by surprise there.
It’s a double hit: increase in the DOTW prices (apparently?), and effectively adding £2 to everything (because even the EBs are likely under £30)

And thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve already got the Ninja Battle DVD too. And quite literally all the other clearance titles.

I always preferred Madlax

Madlax was actually my "least" favorite of the original Bee Train Girls with Guns trilogy, although it's still very good. El Cazador de la Bruja became my second favorite of the trilogy, although I didn't watch that series until 2020, many years later than the other two. I wanted to kick myself for waiting so long to watch that one, it was so good!

I actually decided to re-watch Madlax again since it's been at least 10 years since I last saw it, all because of your post, so I started it yesterday. I really don't remember too much of it, so I want to see what I think of it now. I watched the first 6 episodes last night. I honestly only vaguely remember some of what I watched, but it's been good, just somewhat slower-paced than Noir or El Cazador. Now I'm kind of wondering if I ever finished watching the entire Madlax series the first time through or not...

I would love to see El Cazador de la Bruja and Madlax get released on Blu-ray like Noir has, although Noir is the only one that ever got a Blu-ray release in Japan as far as I'm aware. I own the US DVD thinpak sets for all three of the series, and the Funimation Anime Classics Blu-ray and the Japanese Blu-ray Box set for Noir as well.

Well crap - in my case shipping early is not good news - I guess I won't be getting my order of the Ergo Proxy and Serial Experiments Lain steelbooks shipped out to the US anytime soon... dang it. 😟

So now I see in my email that my order has actually shipped - but if shipping to the US via Royal Mail is still blocked, then I guess the package just won't be picked up? Or will RM pick it up and then hold it themselves? I'd rather it stay at AOL than get lost sitting in a mail warehouse somewhere...

Ok, now I'm totally corn-fused. I thought Royal Mail to the US was put on hold starting on September 1, but now I'm reading online they only halted mail to the US for a few days, from 22 August to 28 August? whut??

They only stopped to give themselves time to get to grips with the new rules.
Shipping to the USA started again after a few days.
Its only an executive order and not a law. The rules could change again.
I think the point is that you are supposed to buy American.

I was given incorrect information about the shipping stoppages over on the blu-ray.com anime forum, that's why I was confused. Everyone over there are all hyperventilating and bent out of shape over tariffs and de minimus, but I really am not that concerned about it. If we have to pay extra for international shipping it really will be no different than your VAT and other import charges for you in the UK - and it's looking like the de minimus changes will not apply to disc media and printed material, so I believe they will be exempt.

The biggest hit I am going to take is for scale figures from Japan - I still have six 18+ figure pre-orders that are going to get hit with at least 15% tariff charges whenever they do finally ship.

But, but, but - what if I don't want to buy American, lol? If it's an anime Collectors Edition or a steelbook that's not available in America, I will definitely go elsewhere to buy it. Besides, I bought the US releases of Lain and Ergo Proxy years ago, so I already did buy American. I also had imported Japanese Blu-ray Box sets for both series. I just wanted these steelbooks since I am an active collector of anime steelbooks specifically.
