The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I tend to ignore awards, but do pay attention to the ones on here because I tend to have more faith in the people on this forum than the people on an awards panel or something. I found it strange for Banana Fish to win a lot of awards in Japan but whatever. Liked the first OP.

Samsung are ending production of Blu-ray players. Speculation as to why this is the case, despite a rise in Blu-ray sales, could be:
1) People are still buying discs, but very rarely upgrade players.
2) Customers may opt for game consoles with Blu-ray playback, because of added features like streaming apps and y'know, games.
3) DVD sales are still very strong.

I'd say a mixture of 2 and 3. What's the point in spending over $100 on a Samsung BD player when you can get an Xbox One S with a 4K drive and much more for as little as $180.

'If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord' Novel Series Gets TV Anime

The cutest light novel ever* is getting an anime! ^__^ I really love the light novels, so I hope whoever the team behind it is they do a good job. The light novels just finished, too, so there is room to adapt the whole series if they wanted to.
*Not fact
Maybe if it's double-cour length. Can't see them squeezing 9 volumes into 12 episodes... nor would I want to.

I stopped reading the light novel after I think volume 5 or 6, after he accepted her feelings. Just... kinda didn't sit well with me. Would you recommend picking it back up?

If you didn’t like how it went in that volume, then it probably isn’t worth reading more of.

A HORRIFYING VISION OF MAN’S WORST NIGHTMARE.

Following in the footsteps of Francis Ford Coppola and Peter Bogdanovich, Roger Corman protégé Carl Colpaert (The Crew) made his directorial debut by combining repurposed excerpts from a foreign film – in this case, Mamoru Oshii’s (Ghost In The Shell) spellbinding 1985 anime Angel’s Egg – with new live action footage shot in America. The result is In The Aftermath, a haunting post-apocalyptic vision like no other.

In a radiation-soaked wasteland, two surviving soldiers, Frank and Goose, search for essential supplies amid the rubble. After a violent confrontation, Frank is haunted by visions of an angelic young girl holding a giant egg, herself a refugee from another world altogether. Could the egg be the key to saving both their worlds?

A unique mash-up of 1980s B-movie nuclear paranoia and hauntingly lyrical animation, In The Aftermath is presented in a stunning new restoration that highlights Oshii’s visionary genius and Colpaert’s low-budget ingenuity.

Quite a bizarre choice for Arrow to restore themselves, and disappointing that Angel's Egg isn't at least being released alongside it. This is merely a poor homage.

So this is basically artsy Power Rangers?
