Your viewing journal

Since I handed my assignment in on Friday, I've watched:

Golden Time 13
Silver Spoon 2 1
Kuroko's Basketball 2 14
Witch Craft Works 1
Space Brothers 89
Ace of Diamond 14
Yawara 86-90
Hikaru no Go 36-45

Fate Zero 14-25

Really great but not quite as good as part one I thought. I'd suspect that may be down to feeling the weight of Fate/Stay Night closing in. The first half had a lot of freedom while the second has to tie up certain events we know must happen. Some nice subtle references to future events though.

Over the course of the weekend I've watched:

Buddy Complex Episode 1 - Interesting start to the series, lead character has one of my favourite VA's so if nothing else I enjoyed watching it for that. Not too impressed with it currently, I expect it'll end up a good show though, so we'll see where it goes.

The Pilot's Love Song Episode 1 - Ended up liking this a lot more than I originally expected. The main character evidently has an interesting past behind him that has left him.. tinted. It's quite a nice concept in regards to the overall setting too, so very much looking forward to continuing this one.

Nisekoi Episode 1 - I'm not all too certain that I like SHAFT animating this series, they had a few strange choices here and there, but I'm a huge fan of the manga and really did love the first episode. If nothing else I think this series has set the standard for the rest of the year very high indeed, especially for animation quality.

Log Horizon Episode 15 - The thing with Rudy is very interesting indeed. Even with everything else going on, that one aspect of him not being able to be added to friend lists is extremely interesting. I do think he's an Adventurer rather than a none-player character considering the fact he's able to use magic and so much of it. Been toying with the idea that maybe he's an Adventurer who died once? The show is focusing on what happens when a character gets killed and how they may or may not lose their memories after all...

Nobunagun Episode 1 - Not much to say on this show currently besides the fact it's crazy and I quite enjoyed that aspect. Decent animation quality for such a lesser-known studio too.

Noragami Episode 2 - Still think this is quietly the better of the BONES offerings. Good comedy and really strong characters, had a huge grin on my face throughout and really looking forward to seeing more of the third main character next episode. Sure, he's a brat, but he's evidently got a decent story behind him xD

Good stuff overall~

Space Dandy 2
I still don't know what to make of this series just yet...

Wizard Barristers 1
Same character designer as Mezzo? The concept itself is very sound, but the execution just seemed...average.

Space Dandy - Episode 2 (DUB)
Nisekoi - Episode 1
Seitokai Yakuindomo* - Episode 1

I really like all four of the shows I have picked up this season, although with four from last season carrying over I doubt I'm going to try watching anything else new for the time being.
Surprisingly the one show I can't seem to work myself up to watching is Kill La Kill - The show which was my second favourite last season after Golden Time. Too much Breaking Bad instead.

I watched some of Cromartie High School and wished for a more serious show in the same setting, so I decided to finally watch the second and last episode of Sukeban Deka after watching the first a couple of months ago (it's not really the same setting but it was the closest thing I could think of). The show was quite ridiculous at times with its incredibly serious usage of yo-yos in fight scenes and how people can refer to someone as the "Dark Detective" with a fearful look on their face. However, both of these things are easily laughed off and add to the unintentional humour of the show. I liked the main character, Saki. It's nice seeing a decent female lead now and then. There were some things I didn't like about episode two, such as how Junko's death seems kind of forced, but other than that it was a pretty cool watch.

Nobunaga the Fool episode 2 - Not so much action in it this week, but more setting the scene. The knights of the round are basically all the high profile historical figures of the west all working together. It's quite neat the route they are taking. So far it's definitely the worlds and aesthetic that carry this, as the characters are ok, but nothing spectacular. The idea of Nobunaga fighting Julius Ceasar sounds quite fun. Brutus is there too, so expect some quotes aplenty. Jeanne is now Ranmaru, hence the "why you look like a girl" thing Overall enjoying it, and like that the episodes are all named after tarot cards.

Sky Crawlers rewatch. One of my favourite anime movies, it gets better each time I see it. But then what else would you expect from an Oshii film.
Tonari no Seki-kun ep 2. I absolutely love this series. So funny.
Yowamushi Pedal ep 5-9.

Space Dandy 2

There were some really cool sight gags in this episode (spot the BONES logo!). Space Dandy continues to be loads of fun and it's clear the animators are just being allowed to go wild with the material. I really liked the bit about the old alien with the ramen stand in the other dimension, shows the series might just have some stories to tell as well. I hear the whole subplot was a reference to Ramen Jiro.

Not sure about the next episode based on the preview though. We'll see how it goes.
