Pokemon B&W Adventures in Unova Ep.11-12

That's easily the most disappointing league in Pokemon history. Nothing about it felt special at all, it came across like one of those filler tournaments. The setting for it was just completely bland. Usually it's like Wimbledon/the Olympics where there's a huge centre stadium and then the smaller ones, there's a whole community for the participants to live in and explore and the battlefields tend to change rather than just being generic battlefield 3.4 for the whole thing. I haven't check yet, but it certainly feels like the shortest one too.

On a good note: old school Team Rocket motto!

Tell me about it...the entire Unova saga as a whole has been severely disappointing, especially when you consider just how good the Sinnoh saga was. Ash and Trip's rivalry was non-existent - especially when you think back to Paul. In terms of episodes, all of the leagues have been the same length - 8 episodes.

The writers had no idea what to do with themselves this season. The Unova saga was really fast paced, then they finish the league and had to both "Episode N" and now "Decolora Adventures" (think Orange Islands) just to bide time for the XY anime (which is starting in October).

I'm not passing up a rare grounded romantic drama just because I don't like the music the characters play. And I can feel the passion they have for their music, which is the important thing.

Episodes 3 & 4 were great, despite the occasional moment of melodrama on the part of Kaoru that seemed to come out of nowhere. Kid has some big 'ol cojones, though, I have to give him that.

That's a fair comment, but, whilst my post had at least half of its tongue in its cheek, I do still think this leaves you predisposed to not getting the most out of the show.
 
Attack On Titan ep12

Ok, yeah, that episode was especially slow paced. It didn't bug me too much but the parts with Eren in his dazed state seemed to last forever.

Gargantia On The Verdurous Planet ep12

Argh, I saw that twist coming the moment Kugel first said he couldn't leave Striker. I was disappointed that it wasn't something more interesting than that, though it does make it easier to wrap the series up in its remaining time.

On the bright side I loved the combat scenes and Melty's struggle was well done as well. Chamber catching Ledo was a cute moment. While it's good to see Lukkage back in action I don't understand why she was allowed to retain her individuality to that extent in the first place in the glorious militarised fleet; it seemed to be a recipe for disaster from the outset.

Oreimo 2 ep12

The show I want to be watching is the one Kyousuke occasionally alludes to where he talks to Mikagami and checks out his latest otaku acquisitions, with occasional commentary from Kuroneko. Unfortunately, this episode was actually about Ayase, who is easily my least favourite character in the entire show (if not the genre). The whole thing felt pointless even by Oreimo s2 standards >_<

I sort of regret watching beyond the second episode of this sequel. The signs were all there.

No anime this weekend as the Le Mans 24 Hours was on and I ended up watching about half of it live on Eurosport.

You're probably right. I didn't actually have any interest in Kids on the Slope until I read some forum threads in which people were complaining that the show had too much angsty teen romance and not enough jazz. It was the same thing with the similar Honey & Clover: I don't "get" art but the rest of the package was appealing. (Coincidentally or not, YUKI sings the OPs of both shows.)

I'll actually be interested to hear your opinion on this once you're done - obviously you are not going to be of the opinion that there was not enough jazz, but I would like to know what you think the central emotional theme of the show is.
 
Having approached Kids on the Slope from a similar angle (although I do like jazz, I don't have any particular interest in the mechanics of it and its use in the show did nothing for me), I found it underwhelming enough to drop it after three episodes.

There's nothing particularly offensive about it, but I found it surprisingly dull and, given the names attached to the show, I think I'd expected something a bit more special than we actually got. After reading about the general setting of the show, I made the mistake of looking for the anime Norwegian Wood, which it patently isn't.

The animation of those jazz-playing scenes actually baffles me a bit as well. After seeing them originally, I would have guessed they were done with rotoscoping (which would seem entirely sensible), but apparently they're not. This then begs the question to me - why go to the bother of drawing those scenes from scratch if they're going to look like rotoscoping anyway?
