Mirai Nikki 5

So wait, a cult around raping a blind girl who can see in the future in order to cleanse your sins? Er...whatever 9.9. Another case of "My past ****** me up so I'm going to do the same to you".

Bakuman. s2 e7 - Extremely hype episode, you can see some of the parallels with other more traditional shounen series, but the setting as always sets it apart.

Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam e5 - Sometimes while watching this I just like to shout out "FAMU FAN FAN" because it is a name of sheer awesome. Show is not bad, either, Millia is a very cool character.

Shakugan no Shana III -FINAL- 7

What I love about this series is that each of the last seven episodes has been one dramatic build-up. The whole Hecate thing from the last episode ended as predictably as I'd expect with Yuji interrupting. Although I didn't expect to see Bel Peol and Sydonay there too.. I'm still deeply interested in Leanan-sidhe's involvement, especially since it's been so long since we've seen her.

I still can't help but feel that we're missing a lot of exposition from the light novels...shame Viz never released them beyond volume 2.

Have watched W.Hunter Robin 11-16 today so far; I've finally got a bit of time and I had originally wanted to have finished this by now.

The plot has also finally really started to kick in; whereas the first 12 episodes are so are more or less introductions and build up.
If there's one thing that can't be said for this show, is that the pacing is fraught, in fact it's almost glacial (if it was any slower I'd be in hospital with pneumonia again), and I think perhaps 1/3 of the episodes could easily have been cut earlier on, but we shall see, as right now it's not entirely clear if it was purely for character and environment building, whether there'll be some tie ins to earlier on, or indeed whether the 'beginning' 'of the week' arc is just a bit too long for my personal tastes.

It's been a long time since I've seen any of it, but I think I lost interest in WHR around the point the proper plot kicked in, so I'd be curious to see what you make of the back-half of the series.

Un-Go 3-6

Finally caught up; quite glad I did. The series continues to fall short of greatness (or coherence, for that matter), but it's strangely compelling nonetheless. It seems to have this amusing habit of being unexpectedly subversive, just when you've been lured into a sense of complacency (Young Inga is male?).

It didn't solve all the problems of the shows densely packed world-building, but I thought having one story spread across two parts in 3-4 was a good idea and I was a little disappointed that we seem to have moved back to self-contained episodes again.

I enjoyed 6 though. Aside from the two-parter, I think it was probably the strongest storyline yet.

Seriously though, do you really need three people to drive a truck full of explosives? One guy didn't even have a seat for goodness sake.

Fate/Zero episode 8

Still awesome.

The next episode previews, despite showing nothing, seem to be giving a lot away lately. Heck, the title for this episode was a rather big clue as to what was going to happen. I feel bad for Kayneth, though it was awesome seeing him getting really, really angry. He's had a rough time for the whole series. It was surprising he didn't die, though it makes what I think has to happen next a little more straightforward. It was less surprising that Caster escaped this time; I think he deserves to go out a little more spectacularly. Kirei was cooler than expected now he's finally getting to do things other than skulk.

A lot of characters have been absent lately in order to focus on getting through this incident. I'm almost starting to wonder how they can tie it up in two cours even at this early stage.

Haganai e7 - Probably one of the funniest and most poignant episodes so far, as Yozora starts to think a bit harder about he attitude towards Sena.

Guilty Crown e6 - I'm pleased with how this show has rebounded in the last two eps, this was more excitement and general earning of Cool Points.

I feel like AF is rubbing off on you... :p
Eh? That's pretty much my standard post format for this thread...

Fist of the North Star TV 37-43

In this arc Ken single-handedly (well, with the help of Rei and Mamiya) destroys Cassandra, a prison town used by Raoh to hold the word's best martial artists. Yes, the world's best martial artists are all utterly hopeless against their captors but Ken rides in and saves the day with minimal effort. Also introduced is Toki, another character who doesn't appear in the film.

I love the this story but the TV series does it no favours. While it could be argued that the premise of Fist is inherently silly, the cheesy soundtrack and hammy acting make it funnier than it was ever supposed to be, while the static animation and awful censorship render the fights less exciting and visceral than they should have been. 'Tis a pity.

That was about the point that the TV series really started to drag for me. Even at this stage, it still doesn't seem like any of the enemies pose a real threat to Ken. Some are putting up more of a fight, but it's not enough and it saps any excitement out of the show. I wouldn't even mind so much, but any vaguely likeable characters outside the main cast are still inevitably doomed to die a horrible death as well. When you take these two elements together, it just feels like the show is repeating itself ad-infinitum.

I did enjoy the business with Toki's impostor and I gather that there's a significant jump in the animation quality later on, but I'm finding it hard to pluck up the inspiration to push on with FotNS.

On a more positive note:

Mazinkaiser SKL ep1

I'm not a huge fan of super robot shows generally, but this, this I like. It seems to have all the burning passion of the earlier versions, but with crisp, modern design work married to an admirably nutty, high-concept plot ("An engineer and two lunatic commandos have only 66 hours to stop a three-way war that threatens to destroy the earth!").

Shame there's only three parts - on the strength of this episode, I could easily have taken a full series of it.

K-On! 5-8

Okay...I was laughing all the way through. Episode 1-4 were cute, but now the show really seems to have taken off. Now it's become harder for me to pinpoint one member of the band as my favourite (If I had to really think about it, it would probably be Yui or Mio). Throughout the set I was either aww-ing at how adorable it is or laughing my head off at how hilarious it is.

Also, it was great to see a series with even a slight reference to the possibility of homosexuality being released as a PG - the world really is moving forward in that respect.

Only downside is how bloody high pitched the voices can be (I preferred it when Yui's voice was messed up due to practising too hard. Seriously, she's adorable but after two episodes it can grate on your ears). "My Love is a Stapler" is also the best song title ever.
