Cutie Honey Live (TV series): This arrived today from RightStuf. Sadly it is only Region Ar, so CH fans without a multi-region player will miss out of the action. And there is a lot of action, and some quite saucy scenes, Just coming up to episode 5 of 26. Well worth the money if you like the combination of cute and violent. Not sure if it's more fun than the 2004 movie yet, but that could be because I fancied the detective in that version (very tsundere!).

Also, by My Neighbor Totoro 30th anniversary BR arrived in the same parcel. This is also Region A only. But you do get a CD and a snazzy booklet as well.

Another fifth gone and they've only just played their first official gig with the MC in the band! It's so slow and stilted sometimes I wonder if they had to do that to ensure they got 26 episodes out of the available source material.

The manga is 34 volumes and started publishing in November 1999, finished in April 2008 - the anime aired from October 7, 2004 - March 31, 2005. So IDRK I guess it's hard to say just based on that? I really liked the Beck anime anyway I'm hoping to read the manga someday :)

It's weird, someone says a line, long pause, someone else says a line, long pause, etc. Maybe it's because it's the dub I'm watching. There's also loads of cut aways to an empty scene for a few seconds every so often, I know that's a thing in Japanese films and is totally fine in a more chilled SOL thing, but I thought this would be a more fast paced energetic thing about a band rocking out and making it big, but that's only been about a quarter, if that, of what's been in the show so far.

At the halfway point of Kyûteî Hanî: The Live (as IMDB has it): I like how, when the "new" girls are introduced, they get added to the opening and closing credits. Still lots of violence and cute girls in cute outfits, and one very scary lesbian. I shall watching something else before wallowing in the final 13 episodes.

Demon Prince Enma OVA 4 [End]

Posted some general thoughts on the OVA in the rating thread.

Ghastly Prince Enma ~ Burning Up! ep1-2

This is certainly quite a contrast to the OVA series. It's nothing like as dark, but I wouldn't describe it as a children's show exactly; the tone of it reminds me a lot of Re: Cutie Honey, to the point where it feels a bit like what you might get if Gainax made a series of Scooby Doo. Watching it late at night, it's a lot to take in as well, with its rapid-fire style of comedy seemingly relying a lot on Japanese puns, but I think it does a nice job of updating Go Nagai's art style and it did make me laugh a few times, so I'll probably stick with it.
 
Kimagure Orange Road (subbed) - up to episode 34 now, it's enjoyable though I think Touch is better, will be interesting to see how they resolve it all in the end :)

Patlabor Early Days OVA (subbed) - Episodes 1-5 and possibly Episode 6, I really like this I hope the TV series and second OVA series are as good (I've already seen movies 1, 2 and 3) :)

Sailor Moon Episodes 1-9 (uncut Viz English dub) - I can see why this is regarded as a classic but could have done without that dieting and weight loss themed episode and also Tuxedo Mask is awfully mean to Usagi everytime he bumps into her and I want her to end up with that cutie who works at the arcade instead. Still, the aesthetic is beautiful and it is generally enjoyable, it does stand out in terms of quality overall as a series for all its faults, and Viz have done a fine job with this new dub :) It will be really interesting to see what I make of this compared to Princess Tutu when I have finished it :)

Kiki's Delivery Service - watched this with the Streamline English dub for the first time (I've seen the Disney dub with both English and Japanese songs and the original Japanese version a considerable number of times before), and it's an enjoyable dub though I would rank the Disney dub a bit higher, I will say that while I really like Kirsten Dunst as Kiki it was nice to see her given a less obviously feminine sounding voice in this version as I think it emphasises that she's still kind of an awkward kid a little more? So yeah, I enjoyed this version overall :)

uncontrollable sobbing
with this one aren't I (having some idea of what happens later in the series) 😅
 
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 - Episodes 1 - 5 (Blu-ray)

I picked up the Blu-ray in AL's recent sale and wanted to watch it again. It's a favourite of mine and episode 5 is where the OVA really kicks into high gear. I've seen in HD before but I'll tire of how amazing the action scenes in 0083 look.

Patlabor - The Movie (Cinema)

I can't believe I forgot to add this in my last post!!! I really like this movie and it was great to finally see it on a big screen with a like minded audience.

Watch episode 7 of the OVA as it was directed by Naoyuki Yoshinaga rather than Oshii as a prelude to him directing the TV series (he would also direct the second OVA as well). It's a slightly different take on Patlabor, I've seen both the TV series and second OVA twice and think they're fantastic, especially the second OVA which has some really good character centric episodes.

Was it dubbed or subbed? If dubbed which dub? Sorry for not quoting the part about the OVAs but yeah I am planning to watch all of it as I have the Patlabor Ultimate set so I'll watch the remaining early days OVA episodes then decide where to go from there (I'll probably just watch the movies first after that and then the TV series then the 16 episode New Files series) :)
 
Log Horizon season 2 episodes 10-13: It's becoming a love poem to online fantasy role playing games and players. Episode 9 was almost completely given over to a soliloquy about the dedication of gamers to their cause. Hopefully the second half of the season will actually get back to the plot.
