Space Dandy Episodes 1-6.

I'd say I'm enjoying this more than I expected to so far. I'd heard a few things about it before but it didn't really prepare me for actually experiencing the show myself.

I think Episode 5 has been my favourite so far but, to be fair, it had several elements I'm fond of in general so it was kind of cheating. The show isn't consistent but I guess it's not supposed to be and I've actually liked every episode so far.

I've been switching between the dub and the sub, both seem good so it's hard to settle on one. The music is quite good too, I especially like the end sequence music.

I'm looking forward to watching more but then I suppose I don't really know what to expect and anything could happen.

Buddy Complex - Episodes 01-08

I ordered Gundam Seed from France the other day, so figured I'd watch something mecha to get me in the mood. I'm not sure I could objectively call this a good series, but I'm really enjoying it. Sure it has flawed plot decisions, and most of it's central relationships are ridiculous (especially the love triangle turned love network), but it's great fun. However, it's quite clear the show exists purely as mild level fujoshi-bait, but fortunately this isn't played up enough to become annoying or problematic.

Seems weird that Aldnoah.Zero was released so soon after Buddy Complex given the two are sort of broadly similar, and Buddy Complex is (for me at least) the superior of the two. A.Z looks better from a design standpoint and it's fight sequences are better, but Buddy Complex makes a lot more sense, is significantly better written and far more focussed in it's storytelling. I'm personally looking forward to finishing Buddy Complex tomorrow.

Also, I don't know why, but I really like the hair clip time loop idea...

GOD EATER (Japanese audio) - Episodes 04-06

Now up-to-date with this series. I enjoyed the last two episodes, felt they were probably the best ones so far. The flashbacks are getting even more interesting.

I'm so glad someone else posted this. I was going to earlier but never got around to it.
Given her attire, maybe you could say she's Stone Cold. I'll see myself out...

Lupin III - The Italian Adventure ep1

With no English translation yet available, it's hard to judge the quality of the writing, but my impression is that we're back in the place the TV specials were 10-15 years ago; sanitised and not revolutionary, but still vigorous and packing some neat ideas into the traditional formula. Assuming that this first ep is reintroducing the cast, they've done that rather subtly too - at no point did I feel like they were forcing the characters in to give them screen time, the way some of the recent outings have done. It's also very pleasing to look at it, with plenty of care given to the action sequences.

I don't want to make too many judgements based on this episode alone, but it certainly looks like a promising start, and I will continue to make blood offerings to Imhotep on the off chance that a UK stream may be forthcoming.

Still not seen any of the Lupin series, it's just too overwhelming and I have no idea where to start, but also no care to do so. Looks like a fun, revolutionary series that marked a pivotal point in Japanese animation and pop culture in general, and for that I'm grateful for its existence, but I guess my curiosity will exist from the sidelines.

Rather surprised to hear you say you don't fancy it, given how much you've been enjoying City Hunter and Cobra. I think you can definitely see the influence of Lupin as a character in both those series, particularly in how Lupin will generally act like a goofball, but then suddenly show how competent he is once the situation demands it. Each to their own though.

If you do change your mind at all, you can't go wrong with The Castle of Cagliostro.

Yeah the series does seem up my alley from an aesthetic and comedy standpoint, with like you said its influence being pivotal to the creation of series such as City Hunter and Cobra. I just find that there's too many Lupin series and films to weed through, and although I could figure out the timelines and such, my OCD tendencies would make me want to watch them all once I start. I actually own Cagliostro on Blu-ray since I own all of the Ghibli films and early Miyazaki/Takahata series (Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, Future Boy etc.) but even so, I haven't seen many of the things that I own yet as it turns out. It's one of my dirty secrets, not having seen Cagliostro yet, being a huge Ghibli nutcase, but I guess I'm a person who also believes in good things coming to those who wait and I don't really force myself to watch something unless I'm really feeling it. One day.

Cagliostro works perfectly well on it's own, with little to no fore-knowledge of the rest of the series/movies required.

I really need to go back to watch the original seasons when I get the chance, but as you say, too little time and too much to watch..... :(

Lupin III IS great though :thumb:

So far I've watched 38 episodes of City Hunter 2 in the last 5 days, I'll write an update on them later but in case it isn't obvious, I always only watch a single series at a time, no matter what. It's how a roll, I like putting my 100% focus and undivided attention on the series which is why I generally enjoy everything I watch.

Buddy Complex - Episodes 09-13

There's something to be said about a time travel show that get things almost perfect, and then potentially screws them up during it's very final scene. I'm actually quite annoyed by that.

I've just checked and the one theory I had as to how it would work is seemingly impossible, it'll be interesting to see how the two-part finale handles it.

Buddy Complex - Final Chapter - Parts 01 & 02

I thought they were going to do the big sci-fi standard of completely messing up the timeline and going for a big emotional finale instead, but somehow against all odds, the show does both. Getting a big emotional finale and I think just about mostly resolving it's timeline problems.

I did wonder why the show was so insistent thoughts had to be sent into the future to reduce lag, even though that makes no sense if you think about it. Nice to see that there was actually a reason behind it's illogicality there.

I know it's enormously fluffy and has no real edge to it at all, but I have a soft spot for dumb sci-fi action fluff, and despite all it's flaws, I really enjoyed this show and could quite see myself rewatching it at some point in the future.

That's fair enough - much as I like the franchise, it can be very inconsistent. While I've never seen a Lupin adventure I thought was unwatchable (although Return of Pycal comes close), there were quite a few dud episodes in the tv series, and some of the newer specials are just painfully bland retreads of the stronger earlier ones.
