I watched Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Episodes 1-4.

I like that each episode has a note as to if it's a "Stand Alone" episode or a "Complex" episode. I'd say that some of the stand alone episodes can be kind of complex too though.

It seems to have a pretty good mix of detective work, sci-fi and big ideas. The characters are great too, so far.

I'm not sure who came up with idea of having a weird comedy sketch at the end of each episode featuring the Tachikomas but it was either insane or genius. Most likely both.

I think the highlight of the four episodes was the conversation Batou and Togusa have about nostalgia for "old machines". Those two are a great team (maybe even better here than in Innocence).

It's interesting that the show doesn't really go out of it's way to explain the concepts and technology, I don't think there's been a single "as you know" conversation or anything along those lines. I haven't had a problem with it, although I wonder if someone that was new to sci-fi might (plus, I've seen the movies so that probably helps). It's also possible that they're just doing a good job of telling you what you need to know without being blatant about it.

I'm enjoying this one quite a lot. I guess I expected to but I'm glad that it hasn't disappointed.
The complex episodes are part of the overarching narrative.

A bit late on this as I watched these a few days ago. Regardless, some really funny moments are had in all four of these episodes, par for the course with the series really however one moment in episode 9 in particular had me in stitches. Had to actually pause the episode for a few seconds.

Episode 9 in general is a fun one with plenty of good looking women and silly Cobra antics. Nachi Nozawa does a phenomenal job with voicing Cobra, just a really funny performance that helps elevate the show even further. A heart to heart is had in episode 10 after a long chase sequence like one that you'd see in a 007 film. Skiing through some pipes (full of neon lights, why not it looks cool!) before traveling down a snowy mountain at 300 km/h makes for some cool action scenes, who'd have thought! It gets emotional but in typical Cobra fashion the show still manages to make you smile. Cobra has a super advanced computer that he controls by playing music on a piano, obviously. Another great episode.
As you can probably tell by the many screens I've posted, Space Cobra has a very painterly aesthetic which is expected since this is a Dezaki series. Space Cobra can be very psychedelic at times. The juxtaposition between bright, rainbow-esque colors and the deep blacks that encompass the endless abyss of space makes for an eye catching presentation that meshes well with the series.
Episode 11 and 12 concludes this arc so it's a great place to end for the night. A pretty fun duo of episodes with plenty of make believe. It was very fun although I hope that this isn't the end of his alliance with Dominique. The preview for episode 13 looks great too so I can't wait to dig in tomorrow! To cap off, some postcard memories.

Rinne - Episodes 17-19
Ushio and Tora - Episode 07

After the "fun" I had watching Gatchaman Crowds last night, I spent most of today watching middle of the road stuff. Ushio and Tora looks like it's going to go to some interesting place from now on.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Episode 01

Having previously only seen the TV movie compilations of the first season, I decided to fix my sacrilege and watch the proper series. I find the first part of Phantom Blood difficult to watch, because it pains me that somebody would wilfully be that much of a dick towards their own child in favour of somebody else's - life debt or not. And, whilst tonally in keeping with the rest of the show, that forced kissing sequence is just a bit jarring for me, but then I'm not a huge fan of flippant sexual assault.

Also, is there a single good non-abusive, non-neglecting parent in the whole of anime? I'm genuinely trying and all I've come up with so far is Meow's parents from Space Dandy.

Madoka's parent's seemed pretty great.

Takeo's from My Love Story too.

Though I can't think of anyone more..

If you count guardians other than the biological parents then I can think of quite a few. Actual biological parents is more difficult though.

I suppose it also depends on how often they have to appear to count. Yukiko Koshigaya from Non Non Biyori is scary but otherwise quite cool (and she's only scary because she cares), she appears often enough to have a name even. Hotarun's mother also seems okay but she doesn't appear as often. The parents that appear in Hidamari Sketch seem fine too (Yuno's and Nazuna's, at least), although Yoshinoya-sensei's parents are totally unreasonable (but they don't appear in person either, I don't think). To be fair, I guess Nazuna's parents technically forgot their daughter at one point.

Some of the Ghibli films have decent parents. My Neighbours the Yamadas even has them as main characters.

It's quite rare for parents to be relevant in anime really, they often just don't appear or don't exist for some reason.

When I asked that question I was over-exaggerating, it was really just a comment about how there's an awful lot of shows predicated around heinous acts of child abuse and neglect, often played for laughs.

I just suddenly realised that all three of the shows I was watching yesterday involved atrocious fathering, and then I realised most of the shows I've been watching this year involve questionable parenting.

Hunter x Hunter-Episodes 85-88

Episode 85: Well ****. Kite's death was really unexpected. Between Kite, Ponzu and Pokkle (He isn't dead but he might as well be) I can see why this arc is drawing Attack on Titan comparisons. They really aren't pulling their punches with character deaths. Before I complained how the tone shifted up and down a lot but after seeing this episode and what Killua was talking about when he got a massive reality check it actually makes for a great contrast going from a game environment where nothing really matters to this life and death situation. Thinking back, none of the arcs have really been about a life and death situation. Sure, there were situations where the characters were in danger but none of the arcs really revolved around death like this one does.

Episode 86: HOORAH, BISKY RETURNS. However, she is down to no drills. I can't.

Episode 87: I'm kind of getting sick of training. Like, the entire last arc was almost entirely training and just as this arc was getting into the swing of things, Gon and Killua pull out for more training. It's not bad but it's getting tedious. Also, fun fact, After watching this episode I have now watched more episodes of Hunter x Hunter in a month than Gintama over 4 months.

GANGSTA - Episodes 1 & 2 (DUB)
Blood Blockade Battlefront - Episodes 1 - 4 (DUB)
Space Dandy 2 - Episodes 1 & 2 (DUB)

Really digging the dub for Gangsta. I think Funimation tends to shine when they're dubbing a show with more Western themes. BBB on the other hand is a bit hit and miss. Most characters sound fine, but others (like Klaus) sound off. It's not going to dampen my enjoyment of the show though since I love it so bloody much.

Bleach - Episodes 266 to 277 - Not much to say really, it's Bleach. I decided I should actually push to at least try and finish the Arrancar arc soon, pretty standard stuff but I enjoy it enough and Sui-Feng just used her Bankai for the first time, and being a fan of said Captain, this pleases me.....now watch it be utterly disappointing lol. One complaint though is my god the recaps at the start of episodes seem to be getting longer :? infuriating when binge watching.

Yeah the training bit in the Chimera Ant arc kinda sucks - it's probably the only reason I prefer the Yorknew City arc, because it packs everything into a fewer number of eps - otherwise the Chimera Ant arc would be pretty perfect.

If you can get through it though you're pretty much on a home straight through to the end.

Prison School ep 1
I haven't laughed like this in a while. These guys are idiots not to mentionHana has to be one of the most terrifying characters I've seen

Space Cobra - Episodes 13 - 14 (out of 31) (1982)
Space Cobra continues to be fun. Episode 13 is the first episode after the end of the first arc so it's a lot more relaxed and chilled. The rundown: A ship carrying a load of gold from Venus to Earth goes missing and as always Cobra has a hunch as to who's behind all of this shenanigans. The Pirate Guild. So Cobra and his assistant, Lady head off to Las Vegas Station, the manager of which works for the Guild as a boss. Of course being a Casino, Cobra wastes no time having a bit of fun, surrounded by cuties, one of which finds herself being harassed by some patrons. Cobra ain't having that ****, not on his watch. I have to say, the girl in question is a cutie, and super ditzy. I'm not usually one to care, but shows like this just know how to design great characters and babes which helps back up my connection I have with both Cobra and City Hunter. The 80's man, the 80's.
A great episode with some fun action, a baddie who is also fun in that 80's cheesy sense, and the babes are cute. Mokkori? Mokkori.

Episode 14 continues the trend of babes as a magical cutey finds herself on Cobra's ship after being followed by a powerful genie. Enamored by the strength of Cobra, he wishes to enslave Cobra and takes the ship to his floating palace where he runs his harem.
The babes are cute, the bad guy is silly and the episode is just great fun, exactly what I want out of a show like this. Full of magic and flying carpets this episode is just great fun and I can't wait to see more silly episode like this. It's like this show was made for me! :p Also, this series doesn't mind having its cuties decapitated however which makes me sad, such waste! As a side note, the baddie in episode 14 is voiced by the late Junpei Takiguchi whom I'm hearing all over the place after watching Takarajima. I find that happens a lot! Voice acting is great in Space Cobra. Can't wait to watch more!
