Viewing journal threads generally don't interest me much, but I had to post SOMEWHERE about this:
I worked all through my weekend on stuff I didn't want to, and it got to 1:00 AM, and I just had to watch something for an hour or so to to wind down. I nearly didn't, because I was (and am, as I type this) completely knackered. But I decided I'd watch Mardock Scramble: The First Compression.
To be honest, I had pretty much no expectations. I had heard good things, but the look of the movies didn't really grab me, and the subject matter sounded like it would be hard work. I was expecting The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by way of GITS.
Fair to say, I had no idea it would be so good! I expected schlock, but this is an intelligent, well made movie with SUPERB characters, and it reminded me of the feel of William Gibson's best novels. It's a long, long while since ANY movie has made me go 'whoa' as the end credits rolled. Fantastic!
