I'm so glad these are finally legally available to watch with English subtitles, I've been anticipating them ever since they were announced. These specials reminded me how much I enjoy this series and they were all a great time if you're already a fan.

The first two specials are focused on adapting chapters which were originally skipped for the anime but I'm glad to see they were adapted as they were some pretty great stories. I'm yet to read the manga so these were brand new for me and I'm really surprised what was covered in the second episode was originally skipped as it seemed quite vital considering the events of the movie.

The second lot of specials were an anime original sequel to the series, it didn't add much in all honesty, more of the same but that doesn't mean they were bad, these were a lot of fun actually and it is uncommon for us to see what happens after the confession stage in anime and manga a lot of the time so these were very welcome.

I Parry Everything episodes 1-12 (Complete. I saw this series had a rather grand-looking LE boxset so opted to give it a go via HIDIVE. As is, it was okay, and I may give the upcoming second season a go if I lack inspiration elsewhere when the time comes.) 3/5

Manganese, origin, radio and vacation.
A nice, fairly chill (apart from the titular character), anime about geology. I enjoyed the learning part about various rocks and scientific processes used in the field. I did find it weird that this random high schooler latched onto the two Uni students trying to get their own research done and they kept indulging her!? It should have either been your straight CGDCT school club or fresh twist with a bunch of Uni students.
Art and animation were pretty good. It struck me as slightly retro in character design, if you can call 15-20 years ago retro? Also the OP and ED songs seemed like 00s type songs and the ED animation wise too with a fairly plan background and the occasional digital animation over the top (if that makes sense?)

Wasn't too crazy about this at the beginning but it's growing on me. Liking the variety of characters in the Penal Battalion. The Temple might need sorting out.

I took the opportunity to watch this at the cinema again, I took a friend who hadn't seen it before but always wanted to see it and he enjoyed it and was very taken with the visuals even if I had to explain chunks of it to him afterwards 😂

Earth Story - Telepath 2500

A decent ecological themed sci-fi film from 1984 clearly influenced by a lot of 70's and 80's sci-fi films. It took the first third of the film to get going (and was still occasionally ponderous) and it was a bit by the numbers but I enjoyed the remainder quite a bit. It did have some nice flourishes with how the main spaceship was animated.

Toki no Tabibito - Time Stranger

I can't be it has taken me this long to get round to watching this film despite it being on my radar for decades! In a lot of ways it's shares a lot in common with Telepath 2500 with a lot of similar themes. It has some interesting ideas and was well paced and I enjoyed it a great deal, something I would recommend seeing.

One thing that is noticeable having watched these films very close together is the difference in animation. Something I often mention on the podcasts is the noticeable shift in the quality of animation in anime through the mid 80's and it is starkly evident with these two films. despite only coming out 2 years after Telepath 2500, Time Stranger is a remarkably better looking film with a huge difference in the fidelity and detail in the animation. It isn't just about budget but a paradigm shift in animator ability.

This is very average, I don't think it's going to get any better!
