Super Electromagnetic Robot Combattler V - Episodes 46 - 54 [Final]

Combattler V remained consistently good right up to the end, it's a real highlight of the Super Robot genre and has stood up very well on re-watch.

Urban Square - In Pursuit of Amber

On the face of it, Urban Square was a very straight forward action thriller clearly influenced by the films Hollywood was producing at the time and even though it wasn't particularly original in anyway, it was an hour of easy entertainment that I really got into and had a great time with, it's an OVA that I would definitely watch again in the future.

Kaiju No. 8 - Episode 23 [Season 2 Final]

The standard cliffhanger ending! TBH I haven't enjoyed this second series of KN8 that much, and I'm a bit wary about investing any more time into future series.

Ambassador Magma - Episode 1

I wanted some shorter series to watch before getting back into another long format show and this has been near the top of my re-watch pile for some time having last watched this back in the 00's.

Ranma 1/2 (2024) - Episode 13

Happy to see this version of Ranma 1/2 back and I enjoyed this episode.

I was very happy to see Discotek release Urotsukidoji. I watched the VHS tapes a lot back in the 90's but I haven't watched any of it for like 20 years now. I have both of these sets and I'm looking forward to revisiting it and finally seeing the later OVAs without all the BBFC butchery.

Dan Da Dan S2 ep13-16

The resolution to the cliffhanger ending of S1 reminded me of the self-consciously edgy streak I didn’t like about this one, but it’s hard to deny how great it looks. Science Saru have done such a great job with the animation that I’m dying to know what they’ll do with Ghost in the Shell.

Ironically, they could probably have made something of that much memed action scene with the naked guy from 2045.

On the strength of Justin Sevakis’s very positive review, I’d hoped for a little more from the story, but I remember it being a lot of fun spotting all the celebrity caricatures in that one.

Kiss of death!
Very similar formula to Urusei Yatsura, but worse! A central couple and a litany of insane characters that show up to interact with them. The difference is that the central pair have a different dynamic in that they start off disliking each other mutually rather than the one sided feelings in UY central pair. I will say that the rom part of the this rom-com did actually see a bit of progress compared to UY, but the "com" part just didn't work for me. Loud wacky characters being loud and wacky wears thin very quickly. Then it just ends! Obviously it's started up again recently, but as I have to score just this part that's another point off.
The art and animation are pretty good, but it feels like a remake with just a coat of paint, it adds to the overall dated feeling. I remember feeling UY was a bit more than that, so it felt modern.
5/10 (needless to say I won't be continuing (I haven't even started s2 of UY because overall that was only OK))

I have been rewatching
The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising the Nation out of Debt and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom (warning contains side boob as Peter Griffin would say).

At first glance these seem similar. The Genius Prince tends to drop the MC into situations he has to solve while the Realist Hero knows the problems and makes a plan to solve them.

Lots of fun with Liam. Not sure why they keep having the Guide pop up every episode but as I love his voice, that's okay. Don't like the Sword Master. Not sure I should have been amused by Five years old Liam fondling his busty android's chest.

Common story but I do find it satisfying watching a character improve and become confident.
