Natsume’s Book of Friends Seasons 3-4 (rewatch, English dubbed) - I will always love gentle, kind Natsume and lugubrious, slightly cantankerous Nyanko-sensei, this show is such a delight and I am very excited to watch the rest of it that I've not seen before (especially now most of that has been dubbed in English!)
Ouran High School Host Club (rewatch, English dubbed) - Holds up really well, bar the occasional more questionable/problematic moment, tbf with things like the use of the transphobic t-slur it's not used a lot and in context the portrayal of the character in question is clearly meant to be positive so it's more like an unfortunate misstep that dates the series in this context than anything malicious or intended with bigotry, I actually watched that episode at random with a very close fren who is trans as it happened to be the next one up when they were visiting me (I did let them know about the t-slur thing before it came up in the episode), and they still enjoyed it and liked the vibe of the series generally in spite of that, other than that there's a couple of things that I and many others have pointed out are objectionable but it could be way worse, I haven't read the manga (beyond a bit of the first chapter as I did recently buy the complete manga boxset, but not gotten round to properly reading it yet) so I can't comment really on the mangaka Bisco Hatori's original intent but the anime is generally a good balance of fun lighthearted silly romp with more deep and meaningful emotional moments, and the English dub is also very well done IMO, if not perfect (and the dubbed OPs and EDs are a bit pants compared to the Japanese originals), the gender stuff is generally quite well done as well I'd say and there's a big emphasis on accepting people who fall outside society's proscribed lines when it comes to that. I am not very good at reviewing things in all honesty but it really was a delight to revisit this I am so glad I did, it's a rly fun comfort show and I also appreciated even as a big shoujo romance fan that it's just as focused on SOL and comedy as romance, while still having some of that and feeling very shoujo
New Game Seasons 1-2 (English dubbed) - Lots of fun, very very yuri, could have done without the moments of fatshaming but other than that I did rly enjoy this and while the characters don't exactly look their age it did feel like an actual workplace comedy in terms of their actual level of maturity (there's none of the K-On thing of girls well into their teens behaving as if they are about 7 years old and I say that even tho I liked K-On) and I enjoyed that it wasn't just another highschool anime even though I love those and just finished watching Horimiya Piece XD
A Sign of Affection (English dubbed) - Lovely, and the sign language stuff seemed to be very well done though I'm not a sign language user so I don't actually know. This was a really sweet series and it was nice that they were college-aged instead of high schoolers, the main couple were so cute and I liked the secondary characters too, even the ones who were less likeable I was glad the series tried to empathise with them
Somali and the Forest Spirit (English dubbed) - I loved this even though I had to break from it in the middle for a bit cuz the darker themes of racism and violence stemming from it were making me feel v sad, but it was really good and I also wanna add that there's never any hint I can recall of anything creepy/incest-y in the father-daughter relationship presented and I wouldn't even consider the main little girl a loli cuz she's meant to be very young so she just has "normal" proportions for her age in that sense, anyway this was a rly fascinating mix of cute slice of life adventures/daddy-daughter bonding and darkly violent stuff about prejudice, very pretty to look at too, I can see why some people might find the tonal contrast/shift jarring but I actually felt like it was done really well here, and I'm glad I checked this series out when it was on sale, I will prob at least look into the manga it's based on at some point, though given Wikipedia says it's only 6 volumes long, the anime could conceivably be a complete adaptation or at least one that covers all the main story beats, dub was also very good
Horimiya: The Missing Pieces (English dubbed) - I love this even though Hori's violent moments and some other aspects of her character do irk me sometimes (like calling some of the other girls nymphos, being mean to her little brother though I do understand she does still care about him and isn't like Terrence from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends or smth), but anyway this is generally a great series and even given what I said I do appreciate that they try to give the characters flaws as well as good points so they aren't way too perfect, it's also hilariously funny and the dub does a very good job of keeping that comedy intact, I think on the whole the main couple do work well together and it's a great ensemble piece with lots of memorable loveable secondaries and they all work well together too, all in all revisiting this bunch of goofballs has been a pleasure, and I also give the series extra credit for trying to present a bit of age appropriate depiction of kink and BDSM relationships and dynamics, and of sex in adolescent relationships, that feels neither prurient nor puritan. In conclusion, Miyamura saying he's on his period to get out of swimming class will never not be funny (also big respect for managing to do that gag without any transphobia)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (English dubbed) - My favourite Gundam TV anime that I've seen so far, so many good things to say about this one, just finished it the other day and was def worth sticking with for 4 cours of eps (ok 50 not 52 but you get what I mean), the English dub is excellent (unlike for Gundam 00 which I enjoyed but the dub was ok not great so I'll rewatch subbed at some point) and the pacing is better than for Witch From Mercury (which I did really enjoy and loved the space Utena yuri aspect, but I think it could have used some more episodes, still very good and very well dubbed though), I can see how much thought and heart was put into this and I don't actually think it drops off in quality or repeats itself in the second season anywhere near as much as some people do, I also really appreciated the positive portrayals of polyamory sprinkled in here and there and how even though there was war and tragedy and death there was also hope and love and humor throughout. It's darkest moments are heartbreaking and make me cry when I think of them, but I remember how much love and tenderness runs through it the most
Also watched/rewatched some other series/seasons of series that aren't anime that I will post about in the appropriate threads, and some movies as well
