Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood episodes 53-64

A perfect finale to a truly amazing piece of art. It's true what Vic said in the audio commentary; this series chances people. It's definitely changed me; both in my day to day life, and my goal of writing a story with a similar effect.

I intend to put an end to Monster today, my mind is rattling with all the "who", "what" and "whys" of it all and I'm excited to see how it'll end. It could've done with being a tad shorter I think. Every episode has been worthwhile, but I don't think a longer trip to the editing room would've gone amiss.

Medium shot and Drift Mind are my favourite pieces of music in it though and it's a shame they're not used more =(

Fairy Tail 98

I wonder if Hiro Mashima's editor thought there wasn't enough fan service in the show? =3

Although, I could have lived without seeing a hot, sweaty Elman...at least Evergreen pointed out that his constant 'man' crap makes no sense (seriously, is there a more forced catchphrase?).

R-15 12 (End)

Am I the only one who, watching this, realises how pointless the last couple of episodes were.

Firstly, what's the point of hyping up Taketo telling Fukune that he's a porn writer as being a big thing, if in the end, she doesn't understand any of the innuendos in the last song?! and secondly, I don't think writing "I love you" on a rock you keep in your bedroom really counts...

Ignoring those massive points, it was actually a pretty good episode. During the first half of the song, I was giggling like a schoolgirl, but towards the end it became far more poetic, and was actually pretty good.

tbh I always got the impression that this was intentional. Doesn't automatically make it good, of course, but it is a recognized branch of humor.

Eden of the East: The King of Eden

Was I the only one expecting something a bit more theatrical from a movie outing? They could have just broken this up into about three episodes and aired them as episodes 12, 13 and 14. Not even the animation stood out to me as being the "Hey ****, it's a movie - we have a bigger budget to spend!". Was this just made into a movie because the ratings of the earlier episodes of the series were good?

I'm still looking forward to Paradise Lost, but I won't go in with such high expectations next time. Don't get me wrong, I thought King of Eden was good, but I was expecting something a bit more dramatic.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Season Two - Episodes 3-4

Deadman Wonderland - Episodes 5-12 COMPLETE (It was decent, but nothing brilliant, would rather have had the Manga but that is literally impossible to find these day, the ending literally was non-existent and decipherable)

Gintama - Episode 4

Some One Piece episodes I think can't remember which ones and One or two Baka To Test Episodes (the one where they go swimming)

Ao no Exorcist 24.

Yeah, this is show is definitely crap now. Gotta love how Shiemi got trolled! "I'm going to use talk-no-jutsu!" *neck snaps*. Also, Power of love breaks SATAN'S possession? Teh ****? They should have let Yukio off himself, and have Rin give that speech over his brother's dead body; would have been a lot better than that cliché jazz..

Fist of the North Star 23-36

Filler begone! Now that the ridiculously padded out Shin arc is done and dusted, the anime has begun to follow the manga more closely. As a total sucker for stories about revenge, Fist of the North Star and it's "no ********" approach to payback ticks all the right boxes for me, and thus episode 32, in which Ken mercilessly kills his piece of **** brother Jagi, instantly became one of my favourite episodes of anime ever. From the moment Ken said this, to the moment he said this (I'm getting a lot of mileage from these two screen caps), to the episode's final scene, my eyes were glued to the screen.

One thing that's surprised me about the TV series, having seen the movie, is how it doesn't always take itself completely seriously. While I can't rule out the possibility of FotNS being genuinely earnest 1980s cheese, I strongly suspect the anime writers were only too aware of how silly the story would get and deliberately hammed it up for effect.

Second set will be ordered soon-ish.

I love reading the FotNS impressions, they remind me I still need to order the third set myself. Hopefully a nice TRSI studio sale will appear today or Thursday to get me motivated.

Antique Bakery (1-12)

Finally got around to finishing this little series after many years of anticipation (I always wanted to see the drama version). Progress was slow as I was saving each disc for when I was in the right mood for something slow paced.

Antique is the kind of series where nothing really happens, but that's the charm of it. The characters are fantastic and the voice acting was first class; the animation itself was very simple and intentionally washed out so the voice actors had more work to do bringing things to life. I haven't heard Wakamoto Norio sounding relatively normal in a role in a long time (I didn't even recognise him until the penny dropped partway through). I wouldn't recommend it to people outside of its target audience since it goes against a lot of things popular in current anime, but it does what it tries to do very well, and I'd be happy showing this to people who weren't anime fans as well. Nozomi's release was lovely and even included some rather amusing event footage. If only every release was as satisfying.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 1-2

I am starting this late on purpose as I wanted to wait for it all to be available first, and also because I was late to the party for the original FMA and I wanted to allow myself a gap before diving into the remake. So far so good. Everything is familiar but the presentation is so different that it's not boring to see it all unfolding again. It's crazy that this series has had the good fortune to end up with two very nicely done variations in such a short space of time.

I think it might well be something that just crept in as the series wore on. It's difficult to keep an entirely straight face when Ken gets through so many regenerating red t-shirts and single-shoulder pads. Also this:
