That's fair enough. I'm not trying kick things off just because we don't have he-who-shall-not-be-named around to do it for us anymore, I just feel obliged to express support for the Dirty Pair and Dominion. Yes, they probably are overrated and lionised beyond all rational belief by whiney old-school fanboys such as yours truly, but I stick by my original assessment that both are superior examples of the form.

Just maybe not so much Flash and New Dominion...
You know, I actually kind of liked Flash, back in the day. I'm not so sure about now but I'm half tempted to pick up Nozomi's forthcoming collection...

And don't worry: I didn't for a minute think you were kicking off just for defending the honour of your old school favourites. You're too much of a gent, unlike my mischievous self. On that note, I promise I'll stop picking on poor Dominion from now on ;p

Usagi Drop ep 3 - Awwwwwwwww, this show might actually be too cute. I'm trying to forget any rumblings of "controversial ending" whilst simultaneously hoping they don't wuss out on whatever it is.

Kami-sama Dolls ep 3 - I guess the semi-twist at the end made this ep a lot more interesting than it was shaping up into. There's *just enough* there to keep me excited about the show.

do you remember the awful U.K. dub for K.O. Century Beast Warriors it actually put me of the show until i saw it subbed and then it became a firm fave of mine.

Hah, yeah - I still have that tape as it happens. One of these days I really should try and find the second series. It didn't seem like there was a lot to it, but it was a fun little show.
Yeah K.O. Century Beast Warriors while not the deepest series ever made its one of those little obscure old school shows that i think deserves its little small following,no idea if the dvds are OOP now as i have it on dvd-r and the old U.K. vhs with the comedy dub lol,but yeah a great little series and i love the two opening songs.I actualy saw the region 1 dvds being sold second hand in missing records a few months back thought nobody would pick them up went in the next day and they were gone, they were only £2 each of all the days i had to be totally skint.

I grew curious about the ending so I looked it up...

All I can say is...what...the...feck?

Aw man, that's harsh. Missing do seem to be good for little oddities like that though. I was seriously tempted to pick up the LoGH box set they had a while back. It was obviously a fake, but it was quite a nice fake...

Anyway, in the interests of content:

Wicked City (1987)

Rape City.

/review

Well, I couldn't bring myself to hate the film as it has an interesting enough premise and an unusual art-style, but dear god does Kikuchi ever have an unhealthy fixation with rape. The narrative here just doesn't justify the sheer amount of it, nor the leering, lingering way in which it's portrayed.

It is kind of a shame as, had they toned it down, the film would probably have been far more watchable. As it is, I think I'd stick with Demon City Shinjuku instead.

I did wonder about that. I think what I saw was probably uncut; a censored version sounds far more palatable. It still wouldn't be Shakespeare, but I'm a sucker for Kawajiri's art style (even if he clearly hasn't learned how to draw women at this point).

Yeah, it must have been uncut because the BBFC removed more or less all the rape from the UK version. The original is just... icky.

Can't say I have a problem with Kawajiri's female character designs, though. When he doesn't do the designs for the films he directs, things turn out a whole lot worse /o\

Mhah, oh dear... I remembered Leila being prettier than that.

I'm probably being a bit hard on him (the designs in WC are by no means terrible), but I thought the female faces were a little strangely proportioned compared to Kawajiri's usual high standard. Then again, I guess it could be intentional - I think nearly all the women with speaking roles in the film were demons.

Steins;Gate eps 12-13

I...really didn't expect that! Sure there were threatening texts to Okarin but I didn't think it'd lead to this scenario. Episode 13 was so emotionally moving as well just watching Okarin struggle time after time to save her.

iDOLM@STER ep 3

I'm really enjoying this and I quite like the focus on one girl at a time (although this is making me impatient for the show to get to certain characters!) Although the cast itself is the strongest point as I really felt that Haruka and Makoto shone as they were helping Yukiho. They're translating the bonds between the idols quite well.

Trigun 3-4

I'm...Struggling with this again already which is a shame. And i'm still not sure why. Something's just not clicking yet and I'm not sure if I need to maybe watch a bigger batch of episodes together or pace it out a bit more. I like the characters and I like the setting though so that's keeping me watching.

Akira on Blu-ray

I had forgoten how much I loved this film. The animation and level of detail are amazing and on blu-ray it looks better than ever, it looks like it was made yesterday.

I love how almost every scene features something bleeding or an explosion or both :D

It's been a while since I've seen the film, so I image searched Makie. And... yeah. She does look a bit "off". Ayaka from Demon City looks better, I think, apart from that ridiculous dress.

yeah i remember missing records had tons of region 1 and bootlegs for sale, someone must of had a massive clear out, the best bargin i got was about 2 years ago when they had about 40 volumes of Urusei Yatsura,at he time i had about 35 volumes so i managed to get the remaning 15 volumes i needed to complete my UY collection, they were £2 each but if you bought 5 dvds you got them for a pound each so i got 15 volumes of UY for 15 quid cant really argue with that,as i would have took me forever to complete the series.

sitting in my room nursing the hangover from hell,so so i need something bright, breezy and fun to watch so i,m re-watching Cutey Honey(1973)tv series episodes 1-21,only need to wait for another 4 episodes to be subbed and i,ll finally have this classic complete in my collection. :D
