Fushigi Yugi is such a gem! It’s amazing how it balances all those emotional highs and lows, right? I’m currently rewatching Cowboy Bebop—it’s got that perfect mix of style, music, and storytelling that just hits different every time. What’s next on your watchlist after Fushigi Yugi?

Galactic Patrol Lensman - Episodes 16 - 25 [Final]

The ending was straight forward and brought this solidly entertaining series to a satisfactory conclusion, Lensman didn't do anything particularly original even by 1984 standards but I had a good time with it.

Space Battleship Yamato - Movie

I was talking to a friend a few weekends ago and we got onto Space Battleship Yamato and I remembered that I hadn't seen all of the original movies, so started with a re-watch of the first movie. It's basically a compilation film of the first TV series with the usual choppy cuts and where something just seems to have happened with no explanation or context. Watching this again, I always smile at at how the crew are able to completely rebuild the ship after each scrape with no materials or support crew but then that would be to spoil a great story. It's still a fantastic film and I'm looking forward to re-watching the second film.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket - Episode 1

Been 10 years since I last watched this so due a re-watch.

Evangelion 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone (Film) (Rewatch), Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not Advance) (Film), Evangelion 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo (Film), Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (Film)

As a big fan of the Rebuild films, I have been wanting to do a back to back re-watch for months but just never seem to find the time to fit all 4 films in, just need get that sorted soon.

A Place Further Than the Universe - Episodes 1-13

A Place Further Than The Universe is #5 on my list of favorite current anime series.

This was an unexpected delight for me when I watched it.

Dragon Ball Daima (Japanese) - Episode 20 (Complete)

This was a really fun DB series, not my favourite but it has some of my new favourite moments in the series. The art and animation was some great stuff as well, especially during the action scenes. It had a lot of charm as well with its characters, world and comedic moments, very classic Toriyama.

I'll miss having weekly DB to look forward to again though, hopefully the wait won't be as long as it was between Super and Daima. In the meantime I'm looking forward to the new characters which will be coming to Sparking! Zero from Daima (as well as other DB games).

The Duke of Death and His Maid season 2: and so the search for a way to break the curse continues. New characters arrive and join the mayhem. Everyone joins the circus. Romance blossoms in the unlikeliest of places. Alice continues to somehow make her every task sexy (even mini golf!).

Anyway, back to watching all those opera and ballet DVDs ... and the original Addams Family.

This weekend's viewing has very much reminded me that war is hell...

Farewell Space Battleship Yamato - Soldiers of Love

Building effectively on the groundwork done in the first film, this sequel is much better paced with a well developed story to create a film that elevates it above the original. Unflinchingly bleak at times, where most triumphs are bittersweet and incorporating some thrilling action scenes, the film epitomises the substance of what makes a good war movie.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket - Episodes 2 - 6 [Final]

I like how 0080 spends the first 3 episodes developing the whole dynamic between Al and Bernie while interjecting enough action to remind you that this is a mecha anime. Episode 4 is a really good episode and I had kinda forgotten just how violent the OVA is as well. It's very well animated and looks lovely in HD. I've seen 0080 lots of times and it was as good as I remembered it being last time I watched it and I really enjoyed watching it again. Definitely prompted me its time to go back and re-watch the original Gundam anime.

Batman: The Animated Series - Episodes 1 - 65 [Final] & Mask of the Phantasm

Not anime I know, but animated by some of the great anime studios. I last watched this on VHS in the mid 90's and have been re-watching it over the last year after it was added to Netflix. It's still a great Batman animated series and has aged very well. I got the opportunity to see Mask of the Phantasm in the cinema as part of Cineworld's 85th anniversary of Batman and that was a treat, the film is the jewel in the crown for me.

The Duke of Death and His Maid season 3: by the end of season 2 it was starting to become clear what was happening with all the playing around with time and laying of curses, but it was still a cute journey to the finish, with lots of exciting battles and a surprise love duet at about the halfway point. Alice even managed to make sewing sexy this time. Is there nothing this minx cannot do?
