Dr. Stone s2 e11 (complete)
End of the beginning.
More of the same, but at the same time felt a little less. I guess because it was shorter and there was less of the getting to know the people and the environment as they were already well established from the first season. There were a few new characters, but because of the shorter season we didn't seem to get to know them as well as we got to know the Kingdom of Science.

Re:ZERO
s2 p2 e12 (complete)
You forgot something!
Some good character stuff, but why did Emilia's past get 3 episodes to Subaru's one in part one, and some good action near the end, but still too much people standing around talking absolute waffle about fantasy tropes like a whole episode to explain something that could have been summed up in 2 lines. Plenty of screen time for Betty though, although she seems to have turned into another Subaru simp, as what ruined Rem in season 1. I think the problem is that it's a LN adaption, but they forgot they're adapting it to a visual medium or didn't want to piss off the LN fans and said OK just put everything on the page up on the screen!
Overall the whole season seemed to be a massive diversion from what I thought they were going to do. At the start I was like "finally a problem Subaru can't solve by dying over and over again", but then they went "nah, first we'll go over here and set up another problem he can solve by dying over and over again!" I can't even remember why they went to the Sanctuary in the first place and humans could get out easily anyway, certainly Subaru and Otto did and Gar could because he was half human, so that would only leave Emilia (I would have left her there as, even though she had a bit of character development, still has all the charisma of a block of wood) The villagers should have been able to leave anytime as well! As for the problem at the start I spoiled myself with LN spoilers and Rem's not waking up any time soon apparently, maybe the author got sick of the attention the character got and pulled an Arthur C. Doyle and put them on hiatus for a while.
Whilst stuff was coming together over the last few episodes, I was thinking I might finally give a bit of a higher score, but then they straight up ignored the problem that kicked off the season, so sticking with:

Bottom Tier Character Tomozaki-kun
ep 12 (complete)
Compromise.
Despite the rocky start this really picked up as we got to know the characters. Tomozaki-kun himself probably jumped from a complete weirdo nobody to at least average person too quickly, but then the relationship between him and the others wouldn't been as interesting/fun to watch. There was an interesting twist in the penultimate episode where he rejects the methods of the girl who's teaching him as it lead to a false image of himself, although that got rolled back a bit in the last episode when they agreed a compromise.
The art was OK, character design was standard fare, and animation fine.

Jujutsu Kaisen
ep 24 (complete)
Teamwork.
An entertaining action packed show with some funny moments. The story is fairly typical Shounen stuff, kind hearted everyman gets powers and then starts levelling up from there. The various power systems are a little confusion with types within types and other powers on top, but I guess it can be ignored for the most part.
The art is pretty good and the character designs are all quite unique. The animation is very good especially in the action scenes.

The Promised Neverland s2 e11 (complete)
Speed run over!
Man that was rushed as all hell! After the events of the first series where they spent the entire run in one situation and setting in the 12 episodes, in this season they spent no more than 2 episodes for each part this time. So now we're in new surroundings, learning about the world, now we're in a bunker being chased by goons, now we're in hiding near a demon city, oh here's Norman and he's turned evil after what he went through, and now he's not! Now we suddenly have amassed a bunch of hardware to conduct a raid and we've riled up a load of demon civilians to help us. The bad guy we've hardly got to know has a monologue and twist the sisters turn on him and he commits suicide (or gets shot, it wasn't clear) and the children escape to the human world, except our 3 MCs who help end the tyranny of the demon higher ups in a series of still frames!!! The End!!!!! Whilst some of it was interesting/intriguing we were on to the next part before it could be processed properly, although I will say the you thought the society was like, but twist your not alone and there's humans living (happily) elsewhere was a little too close to the AoT twist really!

Horimiya Episode 12 Proposal.

King's Raid: Successors of the Will Episode 26 (Complete. A fairly decent fantasy series with a simplistic straight forward story concept and a likeable cast of characters. Though it wasn't anything special or covered any new ground, overall it kept me entertained each week.) 3/5

My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 1 I'll be looking forward to another solid season from this.

So I'm a Spider, So What? Episode 12 A tough fight.

The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter Episode 12 Freedom. (Complete. A relatively fun series that kept me entertained each week with its story concept and bizarre fanservice antics. Altogether this was a mixed bag overall.) 3/5

WIXOSS Diva(A)Live Episode 12 Declaration. (Complete. For me this was a fun spin-off for the WIXOSS series when compared to its previous counterparts.) 3.5/5

Worth the 10 year wait to watch on blu-ray? For the first few episodes, I wasn’t so sure. But then it revealed itself as having a very atypical Gundam plot structure, and now I’m really getting into it. Who are these people? Why does the main character have the least character? What is even going o...oooh. It’s that kind of show. And I like the way it's all unfolding, it has me Sumeragi's massive knockers hooked and eager to keep watching, that's why I'm still awake at 5am (bringing my blu-ray player upstairs and then realising that means I can watch things from bed was a terrible, terrible mistake). I was going to stop at the end of episode 15, but after that ending there was no way I was leaving it there.

I'm enjoying the fact there are almost no one-dimensional villains too, apart from perhaps Ali. And Louise, I keep hoping for Captain Bright to jump out of a cupboard and give her a slap (that plotline had better be going somewhere relevant, at the moment the Saji and Louise show is like someone spliced in clips of a completely different, considerably worse series). You can understand characters like Graham and Smirnov's feelings and motivations Chris smuggling two Haros in her sweater and they're not really bad guys. After all, International Rescue (come on, they have their own Tracy Island and everything) Celestial Being's sudden appearance and actions would seem very much like an alien invasion to them. While the show's writers seem pretty well versed in historical conflicts and imagines some quite realistic future power bloc projections, I was a little taken aback by the idea The Human League would somehow manage to take over 1/3 of the world, I guess the synth riff on "Don't You Want Me" is just that good.

I do also dig giant robots, and 00 has some really great mech designs. The Virtue is an absolute beast (even if I'm less keen on its Timotei form, or whatever it's called, and Tieria is probably my least favourite Meister as of this point) I love stuff like the Dynames' targeting scope and I'm as excited by the look of the Throne Drei as I am Nena's firm funbags to find out where the story is going next.

I know, I’m not that much further on yet but I couldn’t not comment at this point...

I swear I didn’t laugh though I might have initially shouted “You MISSED”. Nena “I’m your turbo lover, better run for cover” Trinity’s version of Bright Slapping is however vastly more ambitious in scope and effect (perhaps this is just what happens when you don’t get that slap early on, it all just builds up and finally releases as a massive burst of negative karma... Actually I’m pretty sure that is how it works, it was left long enough with Patrick that a couple of punches were required). She’s a keeper Setsuna, what are you doing?

Honestly though, I’m not sure what to think now, my comments about the antagonists not being one-dimensional seem to have gone straight out the window. I’m presuming we’ll get some tragic backstories at some point, this series does seem to overindulge a bit in that respect. I would have liked the Trinity to be a bit more grey from the get-go though, to allow a little more time to question whether they’re doing the right thing or not (as has been the case with Celestial Being themselves) but then I’m not sure what art gallery SEELE is up to and what The Plan even is any more now. But it is still very good in that respect at keeping me alert and invested, which I have to admit is sometimes not always the case even with other Gundam shows I still hold dear. No filler here.

Operation "Everyone Gets Along"
A pretty interesting supernatural show that dealt a lot with the theme of family.
The art was pretty good as were the character designs (apart from a few weird choices) and some nice action.

Graduation and a new arrival. I thought for a moment that we might get a word out of Onii-chan, but no.
Whilst some bits felt like leftovers from having not appeared in the first 2 seasons the introduction of some new characters made it feel a little fresher, but it still is as charming and funny as always.

Attack on Titan Final Season
ep 16 (complete)
Laying out the plan.
The time skip has been a source of confusion since the start, not helped by the changes in character designs, I get that they're older, but still. I guess it worked at the start to disguise Eren, but I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. Was this the way it was in the manga I wonder? I mean most of the rest has pretty straight with it's timeline bar the odd flashback to before the events of the first episode and to certain events earlier in the show, but not a time skip and flashbacks to fill the gap, just seems weird to me. I guess I'll find out when I get round to reading it.
Another thing that was annoying was the character of Gabi, was she being really stupidly naive or is she supposed to represent how, if people are told a lie often enough, that they'll believe. Why on earth would you be so pro the people who oppress your people just because of a promise of becoming an "honorary" citizen, I thought that Pieck was setting her straight at the end there, just to be a ruse to fool Eren. The whole coup d'etre was a bit confusing as well, probably needs a rewatch before the second part.
Still it did flesh out the wider world a bit and there were some cool bits of action with the attack on Marley, but overall nowhere near worthy of the hype it's getting. Pretty much as good as or maybe slightly less good than previous seasons.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Episodes 21-25: Nobody puts Alejandro in the Corner

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS

WELL. The covers and the art book sure did a good job of hiding THAT. Happily “my little mass-murderer can’t be this cute” is still alive, but I didn’t expect her brothers (and even sadder, their Gundams ;_; ) to go out like chumps quite so quickly and I certainly didn’t expect all those named casualties in quick succession. Of course, I realise who’s back now and I just hope that overzealous slapping she received has improved her character somewhat.

00 does seem to have a bit of a problem with turning otherwise seemingly level-headed characters into hysterical, cackling psychopaths at the drop of a hat. That is kind of a shame as I was looking forward to seeing where a couple of characters’ stories were going, but the answer now appears to be a quite definitive “nowhere”. It’s like it wants to keep passing the baton of “mysterious character with unclear motives”. I mean I’m still very interested to see where everything goes from here as it feels a lot like that could have been the END of another Gundam show rather than just the half-way point. But as anyone familiar with the UC knows, war never changes.

I did grow to like Tieria by the end. He got some decent development and I felt like I understood him better. Also poor Feldt. I don’t normally get moe over characters but she seems so genuinely nice.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop-as you might know I'm a big Renge fanboy but this season had a few episodes dedicated to her but not enough for my taste. Still more Non Non Biyori is always welcomed.

Back Arrow ep5-9
. . .
the characters rarely feel like more than the broadest of archetypes.
Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from on that one, Prof. The big exception for me, though, is Shuu Bi, and a big part of that is down to his voice actor, Tomokazu Sugita (Kyon in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). He always brings a lot of character to his roles, and he really knows how to play a loose cannon!

Suppose a Kid From the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town (English Dub) Episode 4

Azur Lane: Slow Ahead! Episode 12 Sleepwalking. (Complete. A fun spin-off series of shorts focusing on the shenanigans of it's cast members.) 3/5
