Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 episodes 9-26 (Complete. A solid follow up for the overall storyline which offered more of the enjoyable sci-fi action that the franchise has to offer.) 4/5
Just ordered the 2199 series from the zaavi sale but a bit confused as to how to get into this franchise. Thought I'd watch the latter in place of the original series and then try and find the original (70s/80s) movie that followed and ended the series before the retcon. Would that plan not make sense with the 2199 remake and therefore is the more obvious 2202 the best way to follow on rather than my crazy plan? So confused...

It’s best to keep the original and 2199/2202 as separate. Although it’s a remake there are significant differences between them that you can easily have them as completely different shows.

Good to know, thank you. I was under the false impression that there would be minor differences with the story more or less following the original.

Literally about to finish this off 😁

Those who know me will be aware that I'm generally not a fan of dubs, but I had to listen to this one to see why people like it so much. I have to admit to laughing at some of the OTT swearing (to think that is the magician from Jonathan Creek reading all this out), but I guess that is what makes it entertaining, along with the soundtrack.

Just watched Non Non Biyori Nonstop ep 4. I really like how this show manages to naturally introduce new characters without feeling the need to completely abandon existing ones compared to many other shows out there.

For comparison New Game!! where Hifumi and a few others are barely in that second season. Also how in Uma Musume S2 Special Week and Silence Suzuka could basically be cut from the show and it would make no difference, not even had a single race regardless of being the protagonists from the previous season.

The Asterisk War Season 1 (Japanese audio) - Episodes 7-12 (Completed)
Attack on Titan: The Final Season (Japanese audio) - Episode 8
BEASTARS Season 2 (Japanese audio) - Episode 4
K: Missing Kings (Japanese audio) - Film
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Japanese audio) - Episode 4

The Asterisk War is an alright battle harem series. I remember when the show first aired it was compared to Chivalry of a Failed Knight a lot especially with how it starts. The first arc was fine, the second arc was interesting and the third arc is a straight-up tournament fest. The fights that don't focus on the main group are meh but the rest has my interest. The Kirin girl's Japanese voice is a bit too squeaky and thus her English voice is much better from the clips I checked. I do have Season 2 so I'll be watching that soon.

Also MVM's authoring on this set is not the best. The chapter selects are broken (so you can't skip OP/ED completely as it also skips parts of the actual show also - that being said the Ending song is great) and there's no Play All option so you're tossed back into the main menu. The banding is also very noticeable throughout so the only benefit is the subtitles (which are Aniplex style) and audio have no issues.

Meanwhile, K: Missing Kings was a pretty good addition to the K franchise. Personally I didn't find this to be a film but moreso a one hour special, and it does a good job getting you interested, especially as this takes place after the events of the first series. It also provides some closure and new additions to the mix that eventually later K instalments will probably cover. Story doesn't feel as though it had a second act but I think it will satisfy any K fan out there. Shiro, the Silver King and main character in general, is mostly absent but his scenes at the end of the film does provide some context and get him back into the spotlight for the second series Return of Kings.

Note: There's currently 58 shows, 21 films, 8 OVA series, and 6 individual OVA episodes remaining in my Blu-ray backlog. I hope to try and get through all of this before 2022.

Attack on Titan: The Final Season episode 67 Fallen soldier.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode 184 Bury.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation episode 4 Fractured.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop episode 4 Tomato delivery and lost child.

Yatogame-Chan, Kansatsu Nikki 3 episode 4 Lunches.

Stella Women’s Academy, High School Division Class-C³ episodes 1-13 (Complete. A survival club-themed series which takes a more relaxed tone before switching gears in the second half as the lead, and in turn the series as a whole, takes it all a bit too seriously, which feels a bit dragged out and predictable but still has some decent parts.) 3/5

Attack on Titan: The Final Season (English Dub) Episode 63

Sword Art Online Alicization -War of Underworld- Part 2 (English Dub) Episode 22

Attack on Titan: The Final Season Episode 67 Fallen comrade.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode 4 Betrayed.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop Episode 4 Produce delivery and lost.

Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki Season 3 Episode 4 Lunch choices.

After War Gundam X (Japanese) - Episodes 15-26

This show has a habit of having great characters appearing and then dying or just never showing up again. Also, still don't like the Frost Brothers, they don't exactly pose much risk to the Freeden crew at this point and their attemps at evil villain, in the shadows crap would be laughable if it weren't so cringey. Still enjoying the show but I just wish it had a different set of main antagonists.

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Japanese) Film

More Cowboy Bebop, not much else I could ask for but not quite as good as the show. The Manga blu-ray subs are weird tho.

Millennium Actress 4K (Japanese) Film

Similar to Perfect Blue, which I was expecting given Kon's intention for them to be sister pieces. The blur between reality and fiction didn't work as well in this movie I must admit. In Perfect Blue it was effective in causing a distortion of reality so you weren't sure if what was seen was to be believed but here in Millennium Actress it usually only causes confusion. More of a collection of vignettes that don't always get the point across. Still an enjoyable watch with a great score by Susumu Hirasawa.

Hokuto no Ken - Episodes 61 - 67

Episode 66 was amazing, there was so much tension and drama in it.

Black Magic M-66

I last saw this on VHS in the 90s and have revisited for a podcast project.

Back Arrow - Episodes 3 & 4

I found episode 3 exceedingly dull but actually quite enjoyed episode 4.

i enjoyed this when I watched it a few years ago. It’s one I’d love to see get a redub as iirc the dub wasnt great but it will never happen.... if only I could become a multi billionaire 😂

You pretty much had the same criticism I had with regards to the film - the idea of the story being told through reality and fiction was quite messy throughout so there were many moments where I wasn't sure if it was supposed to happen main story-wise or not.
