Revolutionary Girl Utena +
The Adolescence of Utena
There's nothing else quite like Ikuhara's brand of absurd drama. There's a lot I didn't quite understand like the Black Rose arc so it's definitely a series I'll have to rewatch sometime. The movie was also fantastic in taking the series' surrealism even further with a different take on the story and characters. Will give Revue Starlight a rewatch soon as Ikuhara's definitely had a lot of influence on Furukawa.

Akashic Record of Bastard Magic Instructor 6/10 First episode seemed like a breath of fresh air in the magic/fantasy genre, then I watched the rest of it. Decent enough.
Millionaire Detective 7/10 Good, but I enjoyed the first 4 episodes a lot more than the rest.
Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club 7/10 Its pretty average in almost every way but It kept me entertained throughout.
Diary of Our Days At the Breakwater 9/10 I loved every minute of this.

Gibiate eps 10-12 (complete)
Team up, big twist and boss battle.
Haven't got much to add to this I wrote earlier:
Not sure if this is so bad it's good or so bad it's bad. The premise is a bit insane, but could make a cool story, but the writing isn't great. The human character designs are cool, but the monsters are so, so bad as is the CG used on them.
If you told me this was an early 90s OVA where the old 80s ideas were there, but the money had started to dry up I would believe you.
I forgot to say the animation is lacking as well. I would say I liked a lot of the characters and the twist, whilst pretty out there, was well concealed. Could have been so much better, but it seems to be the first thing the studio has done, so maybe there was a lack of budget. ED tune was good and the OP rocks (shamisen as a rock instrument for the win🤘)
5/10

God of High School
ep 13
Power unleashed.
Epic fight/battles aplenty, but the plot at the end got a bit confusing/rushed. The animation and direction was great and bodes well for Jujitsu Kaisen in the coming season (which has more episodes and a different series composer (the person also did MP100II and Vinland Saga), so the story might be better paced).
8/10

Re:ZERO
s2 eps 11-13 (complete)
Round again and a tea party.
Started off quite well with a problem Subaru can't solve by just dying and episode 4 was quite good with learning more about his life previous to being isekai-d, but from there it just went round and round in circles and didn't even finish with him solving said problem! We learn some interesting facts and meet some new people, but Subaru is still annoying and nothing really happens.
6/10 (I gather it's part 1 of season 2, but has to be rated by just these 13 episodes on MAL. Then again it's the same score as season 1)

And with that the season is over (apart from catching up on Fire Force, but that's continuing and I'm not sure what's happening with Ninja Collection, but that's a short and probably not getting more than a 5). Probably the least best since I started doing simulwatch of seasons. The fact that my favourite was a delayed show from the previous season should say it all.

That's my Summer 2020 simulcasts sorted. Great Pretender is the only title not yet finished as I intentionally wanted to save it until we find out the Part 2 release date for Netflix UK.

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense (English Dub) Episode 12 (Complete)

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- 2nd Season Episode 38 (Complete for now. A very good first half and a solid start to the second season. Looking forward to seeing what part 2 has in store.) 3.5/5

Strike Witches: Road to Berlin Episode 1 (Pre-Air)

Ahiru no Sora episode 50 Beach going and a solid finale. (Complete. It’s been an experience watching this series unfold over these 50 episodes and whilst the story was a good watch I did grow a bit weary to the increasing tragedies that befell the team as the series progressed. I also found much of the content with Madoka in the second half to be rather lacklustre. That being said, a second season would be a definite watch.) 3.5/5

Mr Love: Queen’s Choice
episode 12 Bonds. (Complete. A series I feel largely indifferent towards - it was alright weekly viewing but not something I’d revisit anytime soon.) 3/5

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- 2nd Season
episode 38 Sharpened resolve. (Complete. A strong start to the second season that presents an almost relentless barrage of emotional turmoil for Subaru as the stakes are ever heightened and more is learned about his ability and the effects/consequences it has on those around him. Curious for what will come next.) 4/5

Mobile Suit Gundam 00
episodes 26-38

Higurashi: When They Cry - New ep 1
Intriguing! Bit of a weird disconnect between the SOL stuff and the chiller stuff, I guess that's the point. Maybe could have been a bit less of the chiller bits, especially the opening scene, and then hit you with it later.

Assault Lily: BOUQUET ep 1
Story seems like it'll be fairly trope-y of the "only teenagers (girls, boys or both - in this case girls) can weild the power to save the world" with plenty of yuri bait sprinkled on top. Coming from Shaft it certainly looks good, with some good action as well.

Assault Lily: BOUQUET episode 1 I’ll be curious to see how this plays out, especially when balancing out the CGDCT elements and action-packed fight scenes.

Burn the Witch episodes 1-3 (Complete. Vibrant and good fun, would love a full series someday!) 3.5/5

Higurashi: When They Cry - NEW
episode 1 I hope this new adaptation can live up and improve upon the original anime.

31 Days of Halloween! Day I: Beyond the Door (Film)

Mobile Suit Gundam 00
episodes 39-44

The Great Pretender ep4-8 (English dub)

Trying to make this last, but it's very moreish.

Yu Yu Hakusho (English dub) ep15-16

I like that, in the dub at least, Kuwabara's power up phrase is literally "SWORD GET LONG".

Burn the Witch
Dragons over London.
Story felt like it could have had a bit more time put into it and apparently some useful information was left out from a prequel oneshot manga, but the action was pretty good and I liked a number of characters, especially the main 2.
7/10

I'm Standing on a Million Lives
ep 1
A slight variation on the isekai as our MC gets lumbered with a rubbish class. Seems a bit of a jerk at the moment and will probably still end up OP, but I'll give it the 3 episode rule.

Rail Romanesque ep 1
Seems like a promotional thing for railways in Japan? Only a short so will probably keep it going, although it took me twice as long to watch as this episode was so text heavy.

Jujutsu Kaisen ep 1
Looking pretty cool so far. I like the character designs and the action is really good.

Fire Force Season 2 episode 38 Suffer the Children.

Haikyu!!: To the Top 2nd Season episode 14 One of my favourite sports anime series’ returns again.

I'm Standing on a Million Lives episode 1 A beginning that gives way to ranking and quest lines.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III episode 1 Is it wrong to pick up monster girls in a dungeon?

Jujutsu Kaisen (TV) episode 1 This was pretty funny, should be a good watch - Itadori is a likeable protagonist too.

MajoTabi, The Journey of Elaina episode 1 Beginning the journey.

TONIKAWA: Over the Moon For You episode 1 Truck-Kun fails and a romance anime begins.

31 Days of Halloween! Day II: Universal Mummy Sequels: The Mummy’s Hand, Tomb, Ghost & Curse (Films)

Mobile Suit Gundam 00
episodes 45-50 (Complete. A series for which the first half was a slow build-up that the second half improved upon. I liked how 00 utilised a timeskip with the after affects and PTSD running through some characters and driving their decisions. Unfortunately, I found the main antagonist for the second half to be a bit dull and uninspired - especially his abilities. The protagonists and their group were fairly likeable though, and I found Setsuna to be a decent lead. Overall I’d say the series was quite good, with the first half being a 3.5/5 and the second 4/5.

HWR I'm so happy Truck-kun was unsuccessful this time happy tear shed

I have now finished Amagi Brilliant Park, which I really liked even though I wouldn't call it absolute top-tier Kyoani. Now watching Hyouka which is excellent and have Kaleido Star Season
2 on the go in the living room as well, I'm enjoying that too even though I think it takes the whole work hard to achieve your dreams thing waaaay too far and I wish they would acknowledge properly that a certain character is a terrible human being. Sora's still cool though she has integrity :) I saw the first season many years ago so my memories of it are a bit hazy but it was certainly good enough to convince me to try New Wings (season 2) even though the reception for it was more mixed. I'm generally quite interested in Junichi Sato's work ever since seeing Princess Tutu so I'm gonna jog my memory soon for what I still haven't watched that he directed that's supposed to be good (shockingly I have never seen most of Sailor Moon! Must get around to that one of these days!)
