The Night is Short, Walk On Girl (theatrical screening)

I'm a bit stuck for where to start with this. :)

I'm a massive fan of The Tatami Galaxy, you see, so this film is kind of a dream come true. I'd avoided learning anything about the film before going to see it, so had no idea just how much the two overlapped. All your favourite characters are back for a new adventure! (There's even a little cameo for the main three from the next Masaaki Yuasa feature Anime Limited are bringing us: Lu Over the Wall.)

The film starts good and just gets better and better as it goes on. I thought it was amazing how it even seems to play with the viewer's own sense of time: "There's no way you could get through all of this in a single night!" I caught myself gleefully thinking during the film; there's just too much packed in. But come the end, I couldn't believe that it really was only an hour and a half long: it fits an impossible amount into its running time! And without ever feeling cluttered at that.

The visual style is as wonderfully deranged as the plot — classic Yuasa — and the voice cast are on top form as well. Kana Hanazawa, who voices our main character, somehow manages to craft yet another voice performance that is uniquely this character and no other. How does she do it? I swear she's some kind of vocal alchemist or something! The music is very recognisably Tatami as well, right down to the end credits song by Asian Kung-Fu Generation, who also provided the opening theme for that series.

I'm already keeping everything crossed that Anime Limited are able to give this a home release on BD further down the line. I'm keen to see it again already!

Bonus ramble (CONTAINS SPOILER):
In the sequence leading up to Senpai's visit from The Girl with Black Hair, I have never seen anything so vividly convey the whole swirling, chaotic mess of thoughts, feelings, hopes, insecurities, contradictions and unanswerable questions that, you know, that stuff involves. It's like Yuasa putting the inside of your head right up there on screen. He's a genius.

Katanagatari-Episode 2

I adore the meta of Togame writing about their story and poking fun at Shichika's blandness. It's the kinda fun, quirky writing I come to expect from Nisioisin.

King's Game: The Animation-Episode 1

This seemed okay? Protagonist seems kinda whiny, but I can forgive it given the backstory. The only thing I took issue with was that montage of texts with orders that were quite important to the story, such as "No one must enter a deep sleep", going by in a flash, as I totally missed a couple of things that I had to have pointed out to me that seemed plot vital.

Encouragement of Climb-Episodes 1-3

Seeing as Season 2 is apparently going off CR soon, I'm giving this one a watch in case it's gone for good.

31 Days of Halloween Day 5: Microwave Massacre (1983, Wayne Berwick) This schlocky 80s comedy-horror was entertaining to say the least. The film isn't exactly very good by any means but has a classic b-movie feel that makes it enjoyable.

Popee the Performer episodes 11-20 Okay these are hilarious...

Texhnolyze episodes 11-22 (Complete. This is one dour and nihilistic anime. Throughout, the narrative leaves the viewer to make Their own opinions on the characters and their actions. The MC is almost an avatar for the viewer as they're dragged through the dank dark and mysterious world of the Underground city Of Lux. I found myself intrigued throughout at the storytelling choices, simply put Texhnolyze is quite unlike anything I've watched before.

Of course the anime is very much one that could leave some dissatisfied, due to its construct and tone, but I found it to be a fascinating watch, with a cool OP to boot. I think any anime fan should check it out, but be prepared, Texhnolyze is a miserable and brooding anime that doesn't spoon feed any exposition and instead simply showcases its assets for you to interpret.
That being said it might just be what you're looking for as something unique and different. It certainly was for me) 3.5/5

Listen to episode 8 of the podcast to hear my thoughts!

Encouragement of Climb-Episodes 4-12 (Complete)

Really cute little short series, I just wish it was a full length series. Will get on S2 ASAP before it's delisted.

Girls' Last Tour-Episode 1

Getting a little bit of Made in Abyss vibes off this, cute and mostly light hearted with a bit of a dark edge. Really liked it! Only thing that bugged me was Yuuri's eyes. They're a bit ... off?

Dies Irae-Episode 0

Not going to lie, this first episode was all over the place in terms of plot, I was barely even aware of what was happening, and it felt rushed, not to mention the animation was less than fantastic. I'll give this a proper episode or two, given this was a prologue, but this, along with Black Clover, is looking like the most likely to be dropped.

Katanagatari-Episode 3

A nice change of pace from the other two, with a sword holder who is a bit more reasonable. Less action, sure, but I really enjoyed the character of Meisei, and I love how much characterisation they were able to fit in during a single episode.

Dies Irae ep 0 I agree with lemon, this episode was all over the place, It didn't explain anything about the story, hopefully it gets better.
Girl's Last Tour ep 1
Recovery of a MMO Addict ep 1
Hozuki's Coolheadedness ep 3 - 4
