Yaoi and Yuri

I like Yuri manga, Michelle aka Manga Minx got me into it by sending me some Shake Sweet (originally called Strawberry Shake I believe) and I was hooked, love the story and the characters.

Hmm, sounds familiar :lol: .
SS is great fun, a really energetic series.

The whole shoujo-ai/yuri definition thing is slightly convoluted, so I'll get around it by saying I only tend to read those series' which focus on the relationships (what I'd call shoujo-ai, e.g. Mari~Mite), rather than outright sexual stuff (what I'd call yuri, e.g. Maka-Maka).

W.r.t. Loveless, I watched the first two episodes of the anime and it seemed kinda lame, so I didn't bother with it past that. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that the mang is better though.

I think i would tend to agree with you on reading shonen-ai rather then yaoi.However i think yaoi has just become the word to define all same sex pairing stories,despite the actual content.Whether its a good or bad thing,i dont know.On the one hand people are perhaps ignorant by using just the word yaoi for everything and quickly make a judgement.On the other hand....well i don't really mind what people call it personally,but at least the differences should be known.

yeah I agree coz I read an article that shonen-ai is phase-out in Japan because of its relation to pedastry....

BL(or the phase-out word shonen ai) are non-sexual m2m relationship while yaoi contains explicit materials....

to be honest,considering how big yaoi and yuri is im suprised there isn't many big fans on here.

maybe because they are too afraid to be misjudge especially with the earlier post is kind of discouraging for an BL & Yaoi fan... i really don't even care if a lot of anime fan likes or dislikes BL or Yaoi that I'm watching/reading since they have no right to judge me as I am to them.... I can't understand why people are disgusted with it... sex is sex no matter what the gender is... it's all about how you accept a culture if you're narrow-minded or not... I love Masara Minase's work and there were good reviews on them and the artwork is superb....

I agree,there are a few previous posts that are a little much/harsh.I was just saying it was a suprise to me that not more people have posted saying 'i love it!' as its such a huge thing,and generally (this is from personal experience) people who like yaoi will say so and not be disheartened by what some idiots say.But as you said,i also can't understand why people would be disgusted.Though unfortunately people will always feel that way :?

I Know What Yaoi's all about and that lol but I wouldnt watch Yuri. People think its the same but with different Genders but I havent heard about Yuri and I don't want to Know. and Yes I dislike Yuri.

Yaoi can be disgusting so I know what you guys are on about. I watched a scene of a Yaoi what Masaka has seen (Just to see what shes up to lol!!) and Yeah It was Freaky. Masaka's like are you sure you wanna see it?? I'm not into "Those" Scenes. However there is worse :|

Strangely, I read someones Yaoi Fanfiction and I thought the story was Pretty Good. and I'm not a Yaoi Fan lol

I don't mind yuri, as long as it's not full blown hentai with again, no story or anything.

If the story is good, then I'll watch, I don't have any problems with that stuff.

I have tried Yaoi but I was so disappointed by the plot, I had to give up. Much rather prefer BL, as there are some really good stories out there like 'Only the ring finger knows.' The relationship side of the story is really engaging, especially when they show all the flaws with falling in love and how messed up emotions get.

But i do think its important to explain the differences as misunderstandings could put off people who might otherwise enjoy the story.

I watched a yaoi anime once princess princess or something it's about an all boys school who get the best looking boy to dress up as a girl for eye candy.

Now i'm open minded but that was just plain weird :roll:

But sure theres some good yaoi anime i noticed yuri is a little more structured(if theres no fan service).

If you start to like all the Yaoi. Don't expect full plot. The plot are soo little in certain anime (As it focuses on sex..blah blah blah) but Ai No Kusabi has a plot and that was the 1st Yaoi I ever watched. Even though its old....

Manga wise is the same.

Watching Yaoi or Yuri dosent make you gay or a lesbian.
And watching porn in general dosent make you a pervert (well depends).

Everyone has different tastes. Even me...but I don't like yuri XDD

Hurrah! Another OTRFK fan. I've read that manga I don't know how many times. Currently reading the novel, I love the slight differences. Yuichi (if you can believe it) is even more sarcastic and Wataru is so unrefined.

It's not that it's immoral or unusual... But I'd rather not see the whole thing... Like you said, it's our choice to watch it or not, but it's not like I'm protesting against others watching it.
