The press release

The Crunchyroll panel at Otakon Vegas has wrapped up with a triple whammy of new streaming anime announcements, including ZX Ignition, Wake Up, Girls! (both the series and Seven Idols feature film), and season two of Silver Spoon. Below are the details on a show-by-show basis…

Wake Up, Girls! is set to broadcast every Friday starting on January 10, at 10:30a.m. Pacific Time for its premium members, with free members able to watch one week later. The accompanying movie, Wake Up, Girls! – Seven Idols will also be airing on Friday, January 10, at 9:00am Pacific Time. (Please note that this marks the first time Crunchyroll has ever simulcasted a movie from Japan!) More information can be found on www.crunchyroll.com/wakeup.

Wake Up, Girls! takes place in the Sendai, Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region. A tiny production company, Green leaves Entertainment, which once managed the careers of talents such as magicians, models, and other entertainers is now on the verge of going out of business when their last talent quits. In an effort to save the company, the president decides to produce an idol group and sends manager Kouhei Matsuda out to scout raw talent, where he has a fateful encounter with a certain girl…

Wake Up, Girls! and Wake Up, Girls! – Seven Idols will be available to Crunchyroll’s Premium members worldwide except Asia, while Free members will be able to watch in the following territories: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

Based on BROCCOLI’s trading card game in collaboration with Nippon Ichi Software, Z/X IGNITION is set to broadcast every Thursday starting on January 9 at 10:50 am Pacific Time for its premium members. Free users will be able to view this series one (1) week after initial broadcast on Crunchyroll. More information can be found on www.crunchyroll.com/ignition.

“In the not-so-distant future, five portals suddenly appeared acting as gateways to alternative worlds. However, these five worlds are actually the same world, but in different timelines. As the situation becomes increasingly dire, the inhabitants of each world will stop at nothing to ensure the survival of their own timeline, even at the expense of the other timelines. The key to survival lies in one card-shaped device...”

Z/X IGNITION will be available to users in the following territories: United States of America, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Central America, South America, French speaking Europe, United Kingdom, Ireland, German speaking Europe, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark.

SILVER SPOON 2, is set to broadcast on Thursday January 9 at 9:50 am Pacific Time. Premium users will be able to view SILVER SPOON 2 immediately upon broadcast, with free users able to view one week after initial Crunchyroll broadcast. More information can be found on www.crunchyroll.com/silver

"Hokkaido native and author of Fullmetal Alchemist and Hero Tales – Hiromu Arakawa – will have her SILVER SPOON story brought to life by Marie Miyake (Penguindrum, Hiiro no Kakera) and Ryohei Kimura (Eden of the East, Star Driver, Haganai), who will be portraying our protagonists: Aki Mikage and Yugo Hachiken.

“The only reason why Yugo Hachiken decides to attend the Oezo Agricultural High School (a.k.a Ezono) was simply because the school had a dormitory. At first, entering Ezono was a way for Yugo to run away from the fact that he failed to endure the stifling academic pressures at his preparatory school back in Sapporo. But, it doesn’t take long for Yugo to realize that life is just not that simple, and he is forced to face more hurdles in his new environment surrounded by all the farm animals and the magnificent Mother Nature. For Yugo, who was raised in a home environment far from farm life, the training and the club activities at Ezono are all too unfamiliar for him making every day a struggle.

Yugo also begins feeling a different kind of pressure from when he attended the preparatory school as he deals with many of his classmates who, compared to him, all have a much clearer view of what they want for their futures. But, as Yugo faces one challenge after another at Ezono and strengthens his bonds with his classmates, he begins to grow stronger both physically and mentally… This is a coming-of-age story filled with sweat, tears, and literally a lot of dirt.”

Silver Spoon 2 will be available to audiences in the following territories: US, Canada, Australia, NZ, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Central/South America, Spain, Portugal, Turkey

Crunchyroll to Stream "NOBUNAGUN" Anime
Just when you think new anime announcements at Crunchyroll have calmed down for the weekend, along comes the word that NOBUNAGUN, based on the manga by Masato Hisa, is about to begin streaming shortly...in about an hour in fact!

NOBUNAGUN is set to broadcast every Sunday starting on January 5 at 5:00 pm Pacific Time for its premium members. Free users will be able to view this series one (1) week after initial broadcast on Crunchyroll. More information can be found on www.crunchyroll.com/nobunagun.

Story
“Shio Ogura, a seemingly normal Japanese high school student, who, while visiting Taiwan on a school trip, is suddenly attacked by monsters. Agents known as "E-Gene Holders" from the government agency DOGOO also arrive, who wield weapons infused with the spirits of historical figures. However in the midst of it all, Shio is revealed to also be an E-Gene Holder when the soul of Oda Nobunaga awakens after she tries to rescue a friend.”

NOBUNAGUN will be available to users in the following territories: North America, South America, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Demark, Iceland, Netherlands, Turkey, Spain, and Portugal.

Locking out free users in certain regions, but letting premium members watch...that sounds like a really dodgy attempt to gain more subscribers, or a really annoying licensing contract.

Also, can we go ONE season without a Nobunaga anime?

I think its a given that Nisekoi will be one of the four, as for the rest, I'm thinking World Conquest Zvezda Plot and Wizard Barristers.

Unsure on what the forth could be, maybe the Attack On Titan OVA? Either way I'm pretty pumped.

World Conquest Zvezda Plot is region restricted to North & South America and South Africa. Well now it's "North America, South America, European regions (except UK, IE, French and German speaking regions - sorry guys), Middle East, Arab League (including Israel), and South Africa"

I can guess Wakamin will also have World Conquest Zvezda Plot for Winter Stimulating since CR can't get UK, Ireland, France & Germany.

Crunchyroll have Nisekoi and as expected, it's North America, South America and South Africa only. As Kazé have the French rights, I imagined Animax would have it here anyway.

So the guessing game for Animax ceases to be "what titles will they get" and becomes "when will they make their announcements?" (and "will these announcements be visible if you don't have a facebook account?" - answer: no)

Thats extremely annoying, i'd rather see Crunchyroll have all the licenses for the UK so you don't have to ship out monthly fees for 3 sites just to get your simulcast anime + PS3/Xbox support which you don't get with Animax and Wakanim

This season is really annoying me. I want to keep my Cruvnchyroll subscription for Golden Time, Log Horizon and Silver Spoon, but Animax will most likely have the two shows I am looking forward to the most (Nisekoi and Chunibyo).

While I'm glad we have more anime services here in the UK, they should be taking the titles we can't get like Funimation licenses and Viz Media licenses, NOT taking the titles that Crunchyroll could have got. About half of what is unavailable should have been available to us on Crunchyroll. I can probably bet Kill la Kill and Samurai Flamenco could have been on Crunchyroll but Wakanim took it first (I can accept Space Dandy because it's a Funi title).

I do however, find it funny how everyone on Crunchyroll is complaining about the lack of UK availability and ignore the fact that Animax and Wakanim even exist.

That's not too surprising considering both Animax and Wakanim have been extremely quiet on the licensing front. In my eyes however i cannot justify shelling out another £5.99 for both Animax and WA (i believe they stream for free?) each month when i already have the premium prescription with CR. Also considering past incidents like AoD i would have considered UK only streaming simulcasts sites completely dead in the water but yet we still end up with a overly saturated market with 3 services to choose from.

Crunchyroll to Stream "Wizard Barristers" Anime
Today’s volley of new anime announcements comes to a close with word that Wizard Barristers, the newest project from Yasuomi Umetsu, of Kite and Megazone 23 Part II fame, will begin streaming soon.

Wizard Barristers is set to broadcast every Sunday starting on January 12, at 10:00am Pacific Time for its premium members, with free members able to watch one week later. More information can be found on www.crunchyroll.com/barristers.

Story and background
Wizard Barristers takes place in the near future of 2018, where wizards and humans live side-by-side in Tokyo. While police continue to protect the rest of society, wizards are tried according to magical laws in special courts defended by wizard barristers. Cecile Sudo has just become the youngest wizard barrister at age 17, and begins work at the Butterfly Law Offices. However, unbeknownst to her, she has tremendous magical potential…

Director Yasuomi Umetsu, whose other works include the recent Galilei Donna, will be helming the series, which is being animated by ARMS, also known for their work on titles like Elfen Leid and Samurai Bride. Meanwhile the opening theme is being performed by anisong singer Lia, called “Justia,” with relative newcomer Rui Tanabe not only performing the ending theme, “Blue Topaz,” but also voicing the main character Cecile as well.

Wizard Barristers will be available to Crunchyroll’s audience in the following territories: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia New Zealand, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Turkey, Latin America, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the Middle East.

I'm fine with Wakanim. I can deal with a 30s advert in French to allow me to watch things for free. CR's adverts were annoying, too frequent and far too repetitive. Whilst download to own isn't my thing (I'd rather buy a physical release) I appreciate that they're trying to provide that service for people who do want it, and I'm willing to support them because of that. Wakanim at least keep stuff up for 4 weeks rather than 2, as Animax do. Animax doesn't seem worth paying for to me, as most of their back catalogue I've either seen, own on DVD, aren't interested in, have terrible subs (coughBakumancough) or I can get on CR (Bleach)

As others have said though, I wish Animax and Wakanim would go after the Funi titles, rather than things CR could've got.
