My longest is 2 years... i finished it once i realised he was complete sociopath... and a Hebephile lol (i was 15, he was 21)

My current relationship has lasted a year and half, we're living together and i can't see it ending anytime... ever. (edit i sound like such a sap  )

I think it's safe to say i'm a relationship person. The longest i've stayed single from i started dated is maybe a year. Don't get me wrong though, i liked being single, partying, one night stands... but it just got really boring really fast for me.

Any commitmentphobics on here?

1-2 years.

It was a long long time ago.
in a relationship thats coming upto 6months, and pretty happy with it too, secure relationship where i know she won't cheat, she's on about if we stay together another 6 months then getting a flat before she starts Uni..

Something i've always stood by is personality over looks.....though somehow i've always had a hot gf who's abit.....well....blonde. not that there's anything with hot blondes...but the ones i've had are the stereotypical ones.

The ones that last are the ones that the people trust each other...love each other, enjoy each others company but also have their own time to themselves or spending time with friends.
both putting the same amount of effort into it and wanting it to work. so far onto a winning thing :thumb:

I don't really want to get into personal experiences (although no, none of the few that I've had ever lasted long) But this interested me:

I don't know that commitment-phobic is the right word, but leave me around anyone long enough and I'll just get bored of them. Which is why I like friends and semi-casual relationships. You can see them when you want to, maybe have them stay the odd night and then wave goodbye and close the door. Personal space and being left alone (and not being tied to anything so if I decide to pack up and go to Outer Mongolia tomorrow I can*) are big deals for me, and I can see few ways I would ever end up in a commited relationship. People do see this as being commitment-phobic, but it's not that I'm afraid of it because I'll lose my 'freedom' to see other people or any of these excuses often touted by men, it's just that I genuinely don't want the kind of relationship most couples have. The only kind of 'commited' relationship which would work for me would be with someone equally independant minded, but they seem hard to find and surprisingly demanding. Then again, what you notice in others you don't always see in yourself.

*An interesting family story for you on that subject. It could be I take after a great Grandfather of mine who wanted to move his family to Australia. My great Grandmother however didn't want to go. He went anyway, and took another woman with him.

Over five years & counting here. Then again, I am married after all.

Same here, though I'm not married to Mutsumi as far as I know ;D

I like an awful lot of space in a relationship, but once I'm in one I'm pretty dedicated to it. Casual flings have never been my thing.

Funny that you should say that skikes, he was Irish too. :p

I never knew the guy (all contact with the family he left behind was severed when he left and that was long before I was born) but I get the feeling that although I'd hate to do something like that, I probably would too as I invariably choose myself over others. Not in a really selfish way (I'd share a loaf of bread with someone if we were both starving) but in a 'why should I compromise my wishes for those of someone else' way. Hence I don't think commitment would either be good for me or for anyone commited to me.

I fall under the 3-4 years catagory. That also happens to be my present relationship. We are engaged and getting married in 2011 which means we'll have been together nearlly 6 years by then.
Before, my longest relationship was just over 2years. What a nighmare that relationship was. lol
