What was the first game you owned?

It might have been snakes and ladders, or Ludo. My dad was insistent on teaching me chess, but he subsequently regretted it as I would cry whenever I lost, but playing chess at 4 has to be something worth mentioning. But as an only child, it would only be a matter of time before I'd be attracted to electronic games I could play without anyone else in the room.

Early on I got a mechanical electrical submarine shoot-em-up from Southall market. The submarines were on film strips that wound around sprockets, and behind the film was a panel with missile shaped LEDs that you could move left and right and fire. When a submarine overlapped a lit missile, it was a hit. Of course by the time I learned how the game worked, I had dismantled it to the point that it could not be mantled again.

I then got an Entek Defender handheld game, which I played for ages. You can see Groot playing one in Avengers Infinity War.

My first computer was the 48k Spectrum with rubber keys. The first game I bought for it after I tired of the Horizons tape was FIDO II. I took it home, loaded it up, played it for 10 minutes...

The next day I took it back to WH Smith, told them that the tape was faulty and it didn't load, and I bought Buggy Blast instead,
