What do European fans think of Kaze?

Remember Excel Saga with its subtitle trivia track, that even added an extra layer of subtitling to the workflow and wasn't affected technically. It's impossible to read it all if you're watching Japanese with subs/signs and trivia, but it can and has been done.
IIRC the vidnotes was actually something they developed internally; the infamous "jiggle counter" was used as a test. Depending on what software you have and/or how much time and effort you are willing to put into it, working with and positioning multiple subtitles can be hard:

http://avatar.mee.nu/nanoha_s1_in_the_can (oh, hey - that's actually where I read about the jiggle counter thing)

Kaze have done multiple simultaneous subtitles - I recall because we complained at the time that the subtitles "flickered" whever a line was added or removed...

Ironically - I was informed by email yesterday that my consultancy agreement will not be renewed with Viz Media Europe / Kaze - so my last day with them is in fact tomorrow! No real reason was supplied to me I'm afraid so the above is all I can actually say!

Win some, lose some there, am going to miss the team there and it's unfortunate that I'll be missing out on some fun projects that were brewing there! More time to focus on Anime Limited though, which is sorely needed now!

Well, I can't imagine that decision will enthuse too many people here, to say the least. I wonder if they ever have any intention now of improving their communication lines to the community.

It really does sound as though they're giving up on the UK, if the recent performance issues and lack of communication weren't enough :s

Let's make Anime Limited a big success so Kaze's lack of engagement feels less depressing.

That would be Samurai Girls. Thing is, Kaze used Sentai's subtitles - yet SOMEHOW managed to induce flicker that isn't there in Sentai's own version. They have a special, special talent for messing up subtitles.

I'd be surprised if Kaze were still in the UK market come next year. Anime sales in the UK are hardly great for the distributors who DON'T have a reputation for terrible quality control.

So they get rid of the only person who does any kind PR for them? I sure hope they're getting ready to leave.
Let's be honest though, at least you'll have more time to work on your own quality projects now, rather than trying to deal with their mess. I wonder if anyone would be interested in going back and giving some of Kaze's titles PROPER releases. (Bakuman, Penguindrum BD, Better quality T&B half season sets)
I would say that I'd be sad to see them go, but I'd be lying. Their releases are crap, and so is their streaming service and communication in general.

Couldn't you have got that e-mail before I typed all that!? :p

I think the only thing Kazé ever managed to correct in their time was the orientation of the spines (although I do like how they kept it the wrong way with Mardock Scramble for consistency).

Personally, I'm not too knowledgeable about the technical specs (such as audio quality, BD25 etc), but the most jarring thing about Kazé for me is their lack of communication. Months ago I contacted them to ask about the possibility of implementing HTML5 support into Anime-On-Demand so I could watch anime on the big screen via the Wii U's internet browser - I can watch the initial trailer on the front page, but no actual episodes. I never even got a courteous response, never mind an actual answer.

On the flip-side, I am really looking forward to Anime Limited's releases. The range of titles already licensed so far will leave me bankrupt xD. (Psst, license "Wandering Son" and "Bunny Drop").

So at this time, Kaze titles in the process of being released are

Tiger & Bunny
Persona 4
Penguindrum
Nura Rise of the Yokai Clan
Bakuman
Berserk Movies
Mardock Scramble Movies
Bleach

Anything else?

Bakuman Season 2 has vanished from the schedule, with surprisingly no explanation given... Should we start a dead pool?

That's pretty much all of them.

Plus, Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail.

Didn't Khazi also have Mirai Nikki, Lagrange and K?
Hopefully they'll get released by local companies so that they get proper releases. Would be nice if Manga could author a BD for Mirai Nikki.

That's true, I do remember they mentioned those three last year. Although we didn't hear anything about them since.

Was Guilty Crown also a KAZE license?

Manga UK acquired the licence for Guilty Crown.

Crunchyroll have the UK streaming rights for Free!. Kazé tended to pick up the UK rights for Kyoto Animation stuff...

If they are to retract from the UK Market I hope it is just for future content and that they will continue releasing the parts for the series that they have already started....

Me too. I have been getting increasingly worried about that. Although I think if they dropped something as big as Tiger and Bunny, Manga would probably do some deal with them to release the rest.

The only other thing I want from them is Black Lagoon OVA though tbh.
