What did you RECEIVE today? PHOTOS EDITION!

I've already pre ordered the set that's not out till December 15.
I'm waiting for Rarewaves to do their monthly 10% off before ordering, especially after both the official Arrow site AND Amazon flubbed the release of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly 4K.

Yeah I was reading about that, what a mess. Thankfully HMV didn’t mess my order up.

I received two Blu-ray sets in the mail, one on 8/14 from Media Blasters, and one today from a sale on Gruv:

Kanokon: The Girl who Cried Fox Ultimate Edition with side-load slipbox, two-sided poster and 3XL t-shirt.
One Punch Man Season 2 Limited Edition

I had over 6800 points saved up on the Media Blasters website from previous purchases, so I used 5900 of those points to get the Kanokan UE for only $.99! 🥳

Also today, I received another 18+ figure from Japan. This figure was listed as used with a damaged box, but it looks like it the box is in almost perfect condition to me, with only a couple very minor dents from someone's fingernail used to remove the plastic seals from the lid. The figure and accessories inside the box are complete and don't even look like they were ever taken out of the box... 👍

If you don't mind me asking, How did you notify MB about what sized t-shirt you wanted?

I just sent John a message through the contact form on the MB website with the t-shirt size I wanted. I actually needed a 4XL shirt, but I told him if he hadn't made any in 4XL, a 3XL shirt would be next best - although it will fit me somewhat snugly. Ah well.

I discovered that an actual english subbed version of the original Macross existed thanks to an earlier post in this thread from @Dai . For some reason I thought this was never released in the west...

I got a slightly different version compared to Dai though. This seems to be a Harmony Gold webstore exclusive, although I like the other one better. I got a decent deal on eBay though so it was an easy choice.

The other one is the Japanese 4K edition of Macross: Do you remember love? which is region free and includes English subtitles.

There have been a few, theres the one above and Madman released subbed box sets of all 3 "Robotech" sagas about 20 years ago. ADV dubbed it and released it as singles with an artbox, I don't believe it ever got a collected set from them though.

Got a replacement stylus for the DSi XL (it's not an exact colour match, but it's close enough), a pair of charging cables to charge the DSi XL and the 2DS (and probably the new 2DS XL that I might get in the future) over USB and batteries for things that need batteries like remotes, wireless keyboards and mice and an xbox controller that I originally used with an official battery pack which is now useless since even the slightest move will cause the controller to turn off.

Little treat after a few months of being a good saver! A Nintendo GameCube controller for Nintendo Switch 2 from Nintendo UK.

Tried F-Zero GX on launch day and you have to remap Y to the back buttons on a Pro controller as you can’t really boost otherwise. I knew I’d want the GC pad before trying to play anything seriously, such as WindWaker or my next game, Chibi-Robo.

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve gotten an OOP NISA set from Japan, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

Also a Genshin soundtrack set from the same Japan order and Shin-chan from Hit.

I've got probably 70% of what NIS released in the US such as Katanagatari, Hanasaku Iroha, Ground Control To Psychoelectric Girl, Nyaruko-Crawling With Love, Ghastly Prince Emma Burning Up, all of Love Live, Bunny Drop, The Every Day Tales Of A Cat God, A Lull In The Sea, Card Captor Sakura, Toradora and My Little Monster to name a few.

2025 HAUL - AUGUST v3

More films for the collection. Wasn't planned but this month is expected to be one of the shorter monthly hauls as I mostly put money towards pre-orders hence the lack of packages. Nothing wrong with that.

#04: Devil Fetus & Her Vengeance
It's been a while since we have had any more Category III Hong Kong releases from 88 Films since their last ones were technically for last year but arrived at the start of the year (which were Erotic Ghost Story & Sex and Zen). But recently we got some more and they did get delayed a fair bit but are now finally released (and uncut also).

First up we have Devil Fetus (魔胎), Lau Hung-Chuen's 1983 film, and is an interesting one because it was released theatrically before the film rating board was introduced in 1988, and as a result the film was retroactively added to the Category III group. It's not 88 Films' first title they have released which was retroactively rated, since we also got The Golden Lotus, Seeding of a Ghost, and The Seventh Curse (the former was released in the UK after they started their CATIII series but since its Shaw Bros they placed it with that series instead), but I like how we got an older title prior to the more erotic stuff.

Also here, which was released a month prior, is Her Vengeance (血玫瑰), Lam Nai-Choi's 1988 film, and another interesting one because it's one of the first to be officially given the Category III rating. Lam Nai-Choi's catalogue is full of violent, erotic and wacky stuff so it's great to see more of his works make it over to the UK (plus there's two more films coming later this year based on the Peacock King manga). This film also includes the Category IIB version which is longer so I'm curious to see what the differences are between the two.

Both of these releases include an o-card sleeve, rigid slipcase, scanavo case, art card and a booklet that includes various essays and illustrations from the films.

#05: Thief
Keeping the Arrow Video collection growing but this time not buying a whole bunch all at once as that was pretty pricey before, but in this instance I decided to pre-order a new release which has another limited edition exclusive disc. With the many issues Arrow titles have had for pre-orders I ordered mine from Rarewaves which arrived at a solid pace considering how slow their shipping speeds can be.

The film I ordered was Michael Mann's 1981 film Thief starring James Caan (The Godfather, Elf) and Tuesday Weld (Once Upon a Time in America, Falling Down), and it's the director's feature debut who would eventually make Heat, Ali, Collateral, Blackhat and Ferrari throughout his career.

Arrow have released the film previously but this release is now presented in 4K Ultra HD for the film's director's cut. Also included for the limited edition only is a Blu-ray disc featuring the theatrical cut version as well as the usual o-card sleeve and booklet.

#06: Terracotta Haul - The Hidden Fortress, Shinobi Volume 2 & Takashi Ishii: 4 Tales of Nami
Earlier in the year I did a few pre-order hauls through Terracotta to get the latest releases on a monthly basis, and that got stalled a fair bit due to delays with various titles so I held off after that. But now I have another one with a few interesting picks from distributors British Film Institute, Radiance Films and Third Window Films.

From BFI we have The Hidden Fortress (隠し砦の三悪人), Akira Kurosawa's 1958 film and the last one to be upgraded to 4K Ultra HD from the Samurai collection as the others were released in the past nine months (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo & Sanjuro, and Throne of Blood). This one is presented with a o-card slipcase, UHD amaray case and a booklet with various notes about the film and specs. As a reminder, this is not a combo pack release which is funny considering most distributors tend to include a Blu-ray version. Now Criterion have recently released High and Low on 4K UHD so I'm curious to see if BFI have any plans to upgrade more Akira Kurosawa films to 4K.

From Radiance Films it's the second Shinobi box set consisting of the franchise's fourth to sixth films; Shinobi: Siege (忍びの者 霧隠才蔵), Tokuzō Tanaka's 1964 film, Shinobi: The Return of Mist Saizo (忍びの者 続・霧隠才蔵), Kazuo Ikehiro's 1964 film, and Shinobi: The Last Iga Spy (忍びの者 伊賀屋敷), Kazuo Mori's 1965 film. Similarly to the first volume we have a rigid slipcase with two scanavo cases, reversible artwork, postcards and a booklet with essays about the films. Apparently another volume may also be in the works to cover the remaining films.

And from Third Window Films we have a new limited edition collection called Takashi Ishii: 4 Tales of Nami that includes four of director Takashi Ishii's works that received restorations in Japan in the past few years. In the set we have 1992's Original Sin (死んでもいい), 1993's A Night in Nude (ヌードの夜), 1994's Angel Guts: Red Flash (天使のはらわた 赤い閃光), and 1994's Alone in the Night (夜がまた来る). The key theme across all four films is one of the character's is named Nami hence the box set's title. Each disc includes various extras like previous Third Window releases and this release is packaged in a digipack with a short essay booklet. While the box set has ordered them by alphabetical order, apparently it's recommended to watch them by release order as there's references to each one from what I read online.

I plan to have unboxing posts for Devil Fetus, Her Vengeance, The Hidden Fortress, Shinobi Volume 2 and Takashi Ishii: 4 Tales of Nami in the coming days/weeks. I have a backlog of previously released Asian Cinema titles as well that I also want to sort out.

Phase 1 in expanding the available storage on my PS5 is now complete, all I need to do is get an NVMe SSD for the internal slot and I'll have more then enough storage space for PS5 games at least (I was going to get a larger external SSD for any PS4 games that don't have a PS5 upgrade, but considering that I'm likely to be getting games that are either PS5 only or have a PS5 upgrade I thought it would be better to save the wallet and only get a 1TB external drive for PS4 games at the moment)
