Yeah at first i listened to minutes to midnight and i thought the album was okay but not true to their previous albums, it took me a little while but i conformed to the new sound, given up and no more sorrow still fed my hunger for hybrid theory and meteora sounding songs, Thousand suns further refined their new sound and i think its been done really well. Strangely enough i like the Robert Oppenheimer quote in the song "the Radience"
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form, and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another."
And Martin Luther King Jr. in "Wisdom Justice and Love"
"I come to this magnificent house of worship tonight because my conscience leaves me no other choice... A true revolution of values will lay hand on the world order and say of war, 'This way of settling differences is not just.' This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into the veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice, and love..."
When you take into account that they've done alot for charity, to support those in need, songs like Iridescent have truer meanings and i can understand that they've changed direction. Their songs where mostly made from chester's abuse as a child, the lyrics show that more than anything. Now they have turned towards others who are also in need of help and hope.
Now i've never been abused (especially not sexually like chester was) but in times where i've been down or hopeless, i turned to this band and they delivered everytime. Might sound stupid to some but i'm thankful to them and its why i follow them so religiously.
