I was introduced to Leonard Cohen (and Bob Dylan) by a friend at school (you can kinda tell we weren't the cool kids - though perhaps 30 years previous we would have been). That particular track was used for the end credits of Watchmen, and that brought it back to my attention.

Because not only is it a fantastic tune but I know I've heard something which sounds very similar to it before, though I can't for the life of me figure out what it was. I thought it might have been a Susumu Hirasawa track but no joy there... can anyone help me out here?
 
'Tis a fine tune to be sure. No idea what the other song you refer to could be... do you remember whether it was an anime ending?

On the subject of great ending songs I've been listening to, the first Darker Than Black ED is rather lovely. I strongly believe that in most cases you can gauge the quality of a series by its OP and ED themes. Generic upbeat J-pop, especially if it has ****** trance synths, spells trouble.

I don't think it was from an anime. I'm pretty sure it's the arrangement of the strings that's so familiar rather than anything else. It might have simply been an instrumental piece and that's why I'm having trouble placing any vocals...
