Well, it took a couple of second listenings, but I'm finally in love with Journal for Plague Lovers. Y'know what did it? I listened to it straight after The Holy Bible. The music, the way the lyrics are delivered, it's as though they sucessfully went back and imagined what would have taken the place of Everything Must Go if it hadn't been for the loss of Richey. It's like a gradual coming down from that plateau of anger and hate rather than the fairly dramatic turn their music took. In fact, it acts as a brilliant bridging album between THB and EMG fifteen years later.

I hope someone knows what I'm on about. ;)

Having listened to that song, I know exactly what you're on about. It's the same kind of stripped down, jagged sound, and the tone is similar if not quite as oppressive. I'd steadfastly ignored MSP since Know Your Enemy turned out to be a steaming pile, but I might have to grab Journal For Plague Lovers.
