I don't think I am buying any manga volumes on release at the moment. I seem to be a couple of volumes behind on most of my current series. I will probably be getting up to date soon with most of them with my next book depository order. Although looking through my wish list there are a few which seem to have stalled on the publishers side.
 
Yotsuba's a lot of fun, to begin with. But it's very repetitive. Laughing at the antics of a mentally disabled brat, and those around her, is all well and good, but nothing if advances then it becomes stale. And that's why I lost much of my interest.

Wasn't the manga based on a small series of four-panel shorts?

Nope.
Yotsuba&! was never a 4-koma, that is the original work.
There is one chaper that's 4-koma though.

Alive has finished but the remaining volumes will most likely be released by Kodansha USA at some point rather than Del Ray.

I heard that Bandai Entertainment licensed the manga but that's about it.
