Amazon's prices can really fluctuate when listings first go up. They accidentally put up the Tales of Symphonia HD collector's edition up at £39.99 instead of £80 last week. I got my pre-order in before they took it down, so now I have three months to wait for either a bargain or a cancellation email  I expect the Eva prices will drop and normalise soon enough.

only a regular BD for 1.11

There was a collectors edition for 1.11 but it was a HMV exclusive.
All the collectors edition of 1.11 had was a DVD of the 1.01 version to go with the DVD or blu-ray version of 1.11 (depending on if you went for the DVD or blu-ray version of the collectors edition).

If I recall it had a small booklet as well. This site also states it had a booklet http://film.thedigitalfix.com/content/id/72465/

Oh man, I miss the days when Digital Fix was DVD Times and was one of the best places for DVD reviews on the net. I stopped visiting when they changed it and the layout got horrible...

But yeah, the HMV exclusive had a slipcover as well (though I don't have it so I have no idea if the spine matches 2.22 :p). I do occasionally see copies of the 1.11 CE in branches of HMV, tends to be the DVD version though.

Anyone else notice the lack of the Manga logo? Maybe it's got to the point where they finally don't want to be associated with Kaze's ****** products.
Cover art wise I actually far prefer the DVD artwork choice over the BD one. Tis also a shame that the BD ver looks to be in a DVD size case :/
I'm happy to see that they aren't shoving useless DVDs in with the BDs, charging more and and labelling it as a "Collectors Edition" though.

It's just a massive shame that this is a Kaze release, as Magi is something I'm really interested in, but unless I hear post release reports that Kaze have massively stepped up their **** I'm not giving them any money. I'll wait for Aniplex's BDs - failing that BDrips w/eng audio muxed in.

I think Kaze decided to 'restart' by not relying on Manga anymore. Magi's designs do look good and I heard Roberta's Blood Trail has gotten better audio and subtitles than other releases.

But still I don't trust the fact that Kaze was able to get a Blu-ray version when Aniplex of America haven't released one yet, meaning with this release something will go wrong.

Hold the cash, the text on the side is the wrong way round. STOP DOING IT LIKE THE FRENCH RELEASES.

Can't comment on Subtitles since I have Funi's release, but if the back of the box is anything to go by, I disagree with you.
Kaze are still downmixing 5.1 tracks by default which is not an improvement.

I get the impression that Aniplex can't do a BD because the series has only recently finished it's BD release run in Japan.
I doubt Magi would support the same 4x $90 sets model that was used to release SAO so quickly. Think about it, whilst $140 for a half series is much more than a normal BD release in America, that's still nowhere near as much as it would cost to buy the first 5/10 JPN Volumes. You've also got to consider that AniplexUSA don't compress the video unlike everyone else, nor do they lock the subtitles, so someone in Japan could pretty much import the exact same high quality product for far less.

It's not just the text they need to stop doing the French way. Maybe the French can tolerate horrible releases, but when there's proper releases in America I'm not going to tolerate it here.

I'm sorry in advance for temporarily turning this into a Kaze hate thread.
Let's be honest, they deserve it.

Didn't know about the downmixing part. Forgot to mention the Roberta's cover is the wrong way around as well (sigh).

SAO's format was also reasonable because of the two arcs in the 25 episode season. I guess with Magi they will go through the 2x £110 set model with some exclusive content, I guess a 2015 release would do.

I imagine that after the series of blunders from Kazé, like the Bakuman subs and endless delays, that there were some pretty heated internal discussions between Manga and Kazé (at least, I hope so). If the reasoning is MangaUK wanting to disassociate their brand with Kazé's releases, then I can fully understand that.

Not down-mixed, rather re-mixed. Funi have Dolby TrueHD 5.1 English and Dolby TrueHD 2.0 Japanese, both lossless.

Khazi have DTS-HD MA 5.1 English lossless, and uncompressed PCM 2.0 Stereo English and Japanese although only at 1.5Mb. There aren't a lot in the way of signs to translate, so Khazi's subtitling isn't really an issue here, and both Khazi and Funi lock the disc.

But Khazi are still cheapskates in putting the show on a BD 25, whereas Funi used a BD 50, and Funi threw in the textless crediits as a bonus.

Wait, seriously? That's, what, 5x 33 minute episodes on a BD25?
I dread to think how it looks compared to Funi's release. The episodes are 8-9 gigs each on their discs.
