Underrated Games

Samurai Warriors 2.

It's not been universally panned but a heck of a lot of reviewers are slating it for being more of the same, it isn't. It's the biggest change and improvement to the Warrior series since DW3 came out. Heck, even the 'survival' mode is more of a dungeon mode with loads of different things to do.

Gregory Horror Show. It may or may not have been mentioned already, but tat was certainly an underrated game.

And this Forbidden Siren 2 I'm currently playing clearly isn't getting the recognition it deserves!

here are some of my Underated games list.

- Front Mission (the whole series, apart from Gun Hazard, which was still great but i prefer the actual ones and not the spin offs)
- P.0.3 (nuff said)
- Metal Gear Acid 2 (i dont know if this is underated but a lot of peeps on the net seem to be hating on it, along with part 1)
- Eternal Darkness (even though this game got great reviews, it seems hardly nobody has played this gem of a game, i mean i have yet to talk to someone who owns this game)
- Ryu Ga Gotaku = aka Ykuza (man this game is another one of those great games that not much regognizes, however having said that there are some 1337 enough to aprove of its goodness on the AUKN Forums.
there are loads more but i cant seem to remember, will update :)

I agree, ok the idea is the same with the battling, but the rest is completely different with each characters development being different. Each one as they level up, get a set of different combinations for moves, ok still only really involving triangle and square, but its different non-the less. Also each one gets special moves as well which is a nice addition. i thought the sugoroku board game on it wasn't to bad either.

Well, you'll be pleased to know I own a copy of Eternal Darkness and agree with you 100%. I thought it was an excellent game and I loved the villian Pious Agustus.

I found when I played it it took a while to get into but about quarter way through it clicked and that was that - I was hooked till the finish. I loved the spell casting system. I remember when I use to walk around town I always imagined myself conjuring these spells at the people around me to demonstrate my power and that booming voice would go as each symbol was announced! I'm mad! MAD!

Its all flooding back to me now.

Great game, horribly over-looked by the games playing public at large.

I also want to nominate the Forbidden Siren games into this area as well now (even though I haven't played the first one).

I just had one great session on F.S.2 and I'm more than a little impressed! :D

Rule of Rose. :x

Neither a flawless nor large game, it none the less is well presented and compelling. I can understand gamers at large not clamouring to jump in and try it but for the life of me don't understand why survival horror fans are grinning their noses up.

Half of the allegations aimed at it are complete tripe anyway. Awkward combat.. compared to what exactly? The Silent Hill series? Have these people actually tried using a knife in the Resident Evil series? Survival horror games are not Dynasty Warriors.

One (particularly low-scoring) review remarked that half the items Brown the dog unearths are useless junk. If said reviewer had done a little scratching round they'd actually discover that 'junk' is tradeable for powerful restorative items, much more powerful than the instantly usable scones and candy which Brown finds.

There's complaints over the boss difficulty. Again, why? Dodge, attack, retreat dearies, it's the same thing you've been doing for years - are RoR bosses that difficult or are you just on a downer?

Repeat, RoR is not a gaming sensation, but it's unbalanced to somehow rank this one below Clocktower 3 and Haunting Ground - I'd rather replay RoR anyday.

Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus slated in reviews (probably because a lot of them compared it to FFVII) but I love it, the contol system works, the story in engaging and ok its a bit easy in parks but I have yet to throw down the controller and moan that its a waste of money

I doubt Dirge of Cerberus is UR, it has Final Fantasy VII in it's name. >__>

Check out the reviews its getting like 4/10 and 2/5 from the critics/reviewers, and that underrating is probably because is has Final Fantasy VII's name.

Personally I found DoC to be as **** as the reviews said it would be.

My underrated game of choice would have to be Jade Cocoon for the PS1. The game just needed a good advertising campaign, it was a Pokémon style game and it was released just before the trend started so it would have been a huge hit in my opinion if only they advertised the game a little.

Even though I never did complete it because my memory card crapped out on me, it was very good, I'm not very good with 'horror-ish' games, but I really liked Eternal Darkness : D

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga ; I don't hear much of it, but its an awsome game, with a rather interesting storyline I though ;3

Skies of Arcadia ; I don't/didn't hear much fanbase or anything on this either, but its on of my all time favourites, its a great RPG :3

I own it and i know a few other people that own it but they are nintendo fanboys. I didn't get on with it and found it quite boring and unengaging but i have heard some good things about it so i wouldn't deny it the "under-rated" title.

Eh... no. Not everyone's sick of FFVII, and if they were, they would review the game as it is. Anyway, the reviewers don't say the story, or the fact that it's an FFVII sequel, are it's faults, they say the battle system is completely broken. Which wasn't affected by the fact that it's an FFVII game.

I think the problem with this game is Square Enix have little experience outside of RPGs, and unless they find a way to learn the ropes of other genres, should stick to RPGs.

Two old games that i thought were very underated at the time and still are are colonization for windows and the first to games of the X-Com series, both of which i still play today when i get bored and cant find much else to do LOL 8)

I disagree I think its great that they are trying something new, if they stuck to just RPG's I think that they'd hit a point where the growth would end but if they expand to new frontiers then they can find other styles to experiment with

I know its off-topic and by-and-large I agree with a lot Espy has to say, but on this occasion I do agree with McIcy. Not only does it serve a leading video game devloper like SquareEnix to dip its toes into uncharted waters in order to create more broad appealing releases, it makes simple business sense too.

I believe with a little bit of time SquareEnix could become quite good at creating other video games in different genres. But I hope they don't keep plundering the Final Fantasy franchise for their ideas for exactly the same reasons as I was mentioning in regards into branching off into different video game genre territories. :)

The best multiplayer game ever and no-one played it!!

I've heard quite a lot about this one but haven't played it. Is it a bit like the relatively unknown Circuit Breakers (itself a horribly underrated game on the PS1 games console)?
