The anime-orientated video streaming website <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/">Crunchyroll</a> has signed new agreements with Japanese officials for the free video streaming/pay-to-download rights of two new anime series.

Mecha series<em> <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Linebarrels_of_Iron">The Linebarrels of Iron</a></em> is merely the latest in a long line of Gonzo/Crunchyroll collaborations, with <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Linebarrels_of_Iron">the first episode premiering yesterday</a> (subtitled), just two hours after it's respective Japanese TV debut.

Crunchyroll has also picked up the six-episode<em> <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Time_of_Eve">Time of Eve</a></em> (<em>Eve no Jikan</em>), a new science fiction drama directed by Yasuhiro Yoshiura (an up-and-coming director often compared with Makoto Shinkai). So far only two episodes <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Time_of_Eve">have been released</a>.

As the case with all of <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/">Crunchyroll</a>'s 'official' streaming in the past, both <em>The Linebarrels of Iron</em> and<em> Time of Eve</em> are available to anime fans in the United Kingdom (as well as the United States).

GONZO mecha series...? I -might- take my chances, could be good, but GONZO's CG makes me weep. Might look into Time of Eve though.

Time of Eve is gorgeous, brilliant animation. It's the humanity dealing with androids story again, although this isn't Chobits. In fact it's more than animated equivalent of an Asimov story, with people who even just treat androids with respect derided as android-holics. After all you don't thank an appliance. But some androids are behaving oddly, and it all ties in to a cafe called Time of Eve which has one rule. No discrimination between androids and humans.

The only snag is that the episodes are 15 minutes long, there are only six of them, and they'll be released one every two months. I want it all on DVD now.

As for Linebarrels. After Blassreiter I wasn't looking forward to another Gonzo series, but this one looks OK on the strength of one episode. It's pretty straightforward, hapless teen finds mecha, and naked girl, bad guys want mecha, world defenders want mecha, whiny teen gets mecha. Big **** battle in city, teen grows backbone only to rush headlong into wodge load of cliches. But surprisingly, I really enjoyed it.

Time of Eve is indeed fantastic - one of the best 2008 series I think. I could go on for ages about why you should watch it, but I have a blog for that. ;)

Mind linking it for me?
I'm a bit curious about this asimov animated comparison, I just got curious on the chobits cited above... Can't see chobits and asimov along, but I might be reading too much.

The official site has an English language section, which allows you to watch the first ep online. The second ep is only available through Crunchyroll *cough*and fansub*cough* but the first one should give an idea of what it's like. Knowing your tastes, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! :D

Theres probably loads i could say about Time of Eve but its basically all already been said here.
Its brilliant. Should be enjoyable for fans of slice of life, sci-fi and drama.
Plus the animation is absolutely spetacular. Imagine Shinkai, but with better character animation. Yeh, exactly that awesome.

If Linebarrels of Iron ends up in any way like it's Manga counterpoint, they will need to demand seatbelt instalation before browsing crunchyroll because that manga has some sivere mood whiplash.

Time of Eve is intresting, just intresting.

Media Blasters uploaded some cruddy thing that's not GaoGaiGar (High school girls or some such nonsence) and then went and region bock clocked it anyway just to be assholes about it.

Even though it's obviously nothing to do with Media Blasters, it's their fault that it's region locked? I don't think so.

I think it is. Here I am wanting to give them monies, and here they are agreeing to a dish watter weak licenceing agreement.

And region block clocking is an instant F-- grade in the assessment as far as I'm concerned, regardless of who's at fault.

As soon as I saw the three laws of Robotics mentioned I mentally vowed to pre order it on English release. Time of Eve is a definate win for me.

Time of Eve is really good stuff so far. Just a shame that its only released every 2 months or so.

I'll keep watching Linebarrels for as long as its legally free on Crunchyroll.

Toei uploaded a few of thier series up (Noticably, Series 2 of Digimon and Fist of the North star) but they might as well not bothered as the **** ugly head of region blocking reared it's ugly **** head again.

And this is why Toei fails at life.
