Yes, I was mixing my metaphors or something there. But like you say, it doesn't have to be strictly regimented or anything at this point, it will be fun whatever stage different people are at watching it.
 
Yeah, I'll be getting my first couple of episodes probably at the end of this week. Cannot wait for some more mecha fun.

EDIT: Chaos, yeah next week is good for me.

I was rewatching Robotech last year and whenever this song came up I had to hit fast forward before my brain evacuated my skull.

I've watched the first episode. The story seems unimpressive (whatever of it you can actually judge in just one episode), but the characters instantly grabbed my attention. I already love Hikaru and Focker's dynamic and the fact that there's a black lady in this. I thought Caska (Berserk) was the only one!
 
Well, I guess the general set-up is hardly something to get you on the edge of your seat given the generic nature of its components, but for me that doesn't matter so much. The sort of thoughts that stay with me after the first episode are "Roy Focker is awesome" "Neckerchiefs need to make a comeback" (they may already have done so, I'm hardly a student of fashion) and "my God, why does almost nothing look this good any more?".

Seconded. I'm also liking the non-whininess of Hikaru, by the way. I'll be getting a couple more episodes today.
 
I'm on episode 4. I must say, how refreshing to come across a protagonist who is not whiny or emotionally unstable. Keeps making me wonder whether I'm really watching a mecha show. Haha. And while Minmay is a wet rag, I think she and Hikaru are cute together. I mean, they have a fake wedding, but not consummation. Sucks to be you, Hikaru!

Wait until you get half-way through the series and you want to throttle Hikaru and Minmay. The travails of their relationship becomes a grind.

Best relationship in the show is Roy Fokker and Claudia… It was handled with grace and dignity at all points.

Love the Top-Gun vibe.

By four years according to Wikipedia and IMDB cross-referencing. Damn. I suspect the makers must have been familiar with the US aircraft carriers and the pilots which is what the military hardware in the original series reminded me of.
 
Would be interesting if there was a particular film/show that influenced both Top Gun and Macross, though, two of the most entertaining things to come out of the 80s.
