The Super Dimension Fortress Macross discussion thread

We discussed setting this up in the viewing journal thread, so here we are.

What sort of approach do people want to take with it? I guess depending on who is interested in the thread, there will be different levels of prior knowledge, speed at which people are watching/rewatching the show etc.

Frontier >>>> all

if only just for this

and this

There are many elements to this franchise worthy of discussion.

One thing I propose: superb knife-fighting.

Should maybe have been clearer, was intending this as a discussion thread for the original series as a couple of people were/are/will be watching it around now, not generally about the Macross franchise.

tsk, gundam gets and all inclusive thread, why don't we :(

Well, I was being semi-serious, semi-playing Ryo up. I don't think there'll be that much extraneous Macross discussion, so I don't think a separate thread would be required.

Yup. Nothing wrong with G-Gundam at all. It's just 'different'. ;P
Ironicaly a strong second to Gundam X's best of the AU Trilogy.

The AU Trilogy? What happened to SEED? (never thought i would say that) But yeah G Gundam was an awesome show, pity people just didn't take to it.

With macross though i've only really seen the original series, its Robotech remix, the movie (the definitive version for me) and Macross Plus. I keep meaning to watch Frontier though

Sorry I'm late to the Macross love-in.

I propose an average of 2 episodes a day. Then we just discuss as and when we feel like sharing. I actually run a club like this on the other site I visit, where people get together to choose a show and organise a schedule to watch and discuss. This feels very de ja vu!

In any case, I'm only interested in Super Dimensional Fortress Macross for now. When I get back to the UK, there's the entire Robotech boxset waiting for me to watch as well. Incidentally, if anyone's interested, I found that on amazon.co.uk for 10 pounds. Yes, the entire series, 10 pounds, legit. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Robotech-Macros ... 121&sr=8-3

It has, since, gone up to 13 quid.

This isn't the first time that Robotech has been sold for such an amount over here.

Of course, one can only speculate on the matter of why such a difference in price exists between the Robotech and SDF Macross DVD releases...

This has been attempted several times here (the latest being the "Themed Weeks" sticky) and fails every single time. It's sad, but nobody here seems to like being told what to watch. I won't be partaking but if people want to do it - this could be the time it happens proper.

I'll be watching it and posting my opinions as and when anyway. It doesn't have to be some kind of official club or anything remotely like that. Having an SDF Macross thread to chit-chat in is just fun.

That sounds fine to me (although I think the pace might be a little steep for the forum in general, depending on who all else actually joins in). I would dearly love to have something like this running regularly (I believe I have successfully internet stalked you to find out what the set-up looks like on that "other site" and it does indeed look like an awesome idea for a site that's big enough to support it), but as Jayme says it can be tough to get people involved at the same time on here.

Steep? You mean too fast? I'm fine with a slower pace. I'm in no hurry to get through any anime, so I'm chilled. We can just stick to SDF Macross for now and then see if there are any other shows people are interested in later.

I migth give it a try as well. It will take me a longer time to go throught things though - we migth try to start this next week, perhaps?
