The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I'm interested in the Vermeil in Gold Steelbook, released 17/12/24.
In case someone wants a simple method of obtaining it, I noticed the UK eBay seller, toysandfilms has listed it for pre order.
However, it is £71.99. You wouldn't have to worry about customs or anything. The Crunchy site has it at $75 as a comparison.

Wowhd have it at £42. You'd add VAT to that and may or may not have extra fees. Free postage, though. They are a pain to deal with if something goes wrong.

If you pay the 20% VAT at checkout on WowHD, then there should be no extra fees to pay on the package on arrival to the UK, no customs duty to pay when the value of the consignment is valued under £135 and the VAT would have been paid at point of sale.

So you'd be looking at £50 all in.

Yeah, I didn't want someone to blame me, just in case. Hence the may or may not.🎅
Plus if it was my Mum ordering it, going through eBay would be simpler for her.
I had to jump through hoops when my copy of To Love Ru got lost via wowhd

Ooo yes, I'm an avid collector of Anime steelbooks, so I've got that Vermiel steelbook on pre-order from CR myself. I was able to get it for $50.99 using my 20% coupon from the Dirty Pair Kickstarter which stacked on top of my 15% Ultimate Fan discount. I also have the steelbooks for the first three Seasons of Attack on Titan, which release the same day as ViG, in that same discounted order, for $35.70 each. The Parasyte The Maxim steelbook is arriving in the mail tomorrow, and the US release of the Berserk steelbook (already have the UK steel) is arriving on Monday.

Just in the past month I received the Ninja Scroll Movie Steelbook, Afro Samurai Steelbook, and the Reincarnated as a Sword Steelbook, and I'm pre-ordering the My Isekai Life steelbook from Sentai which is coming out in February. I'm so loving the amount of anime steelbooks being released now! 🥰

I've watched Vermeil which is why I don't own a physical copy. Not sure if I'd watch it again.
However, that's exactly why I'd like to buy a special edition. It would make worth while. And it's got a nice cover.
Although, I've hardly bought any anime this year so I'm not sure if I'm an anime fan.

Only half joking. 😇😜

This is news to me, even though it happened 40 years ago (lol).

Some of you may have heard of (or remember) It's Garry Shandling's Show. 80s American sitcom, incredibly meta in the way Garry talked to the audience and used the TV studio itself as part of the set. Way ahead of its time. The theme tune is a song about how the guy is singing the theme tune, with lyrics focusing on how much of the song he's sung so far. I saw repeats of it in the 90s as a young teenager, and I absolutely loved it.

Anyway: last night, watching the special feature on the Project A-Ko blu-ray, I find that the entire soundtrack was made by two people, Richie Zito and Joey Carbone. It turns out that Joey is now prolific in the J-Pop industry. He's produced over 1,000 songs, including for Smap and Arashi.

And before that, in his early days... he composed the theme tune to It's Garry Shandling's show.

What an unexpected way for two separate worlds to collide!!

All I can remember is that I enjoyed the Gary Shandling show.
I absolutely love the Larry Sanders show.
Regularly rewatch my DVDs.

This kinda came out of nowhere for me but a new Lupin movie! Great to see them go so dark after Lupin 3rd the first!

Fyi this is a sequel to A Woman Named Mine Fujiko and it's three OVAs.

The series is available to stream on HiDive, the ovas we're available from Discotek. AL have teased releasing them in the past but nothing has materialized.

Still haven't picked up AL's release of Fujiko Mine, didn't realise there were OVA's.
Isn't Jigen's Gravestone technically the sequel?
(Which they also need to release ASAP!!)
Edit. Realised you're probably referring to the Jigen & Goemon releases 😅 I always thought of them as films!

Yeah Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen's Gravestone, Goemon's Blood Spray and Fujiko's Lie films each take place after the TV series last I recall.

AL needs to hurry up and release them because Discotek's sets have been out for so long that they could expire at any point.

How do you pronounce Gquuuuuux?
From what I understand, the Japanese ジークアクス would seem to suggest it's pronounced "G-Quacks". Are you supposed to drag out the "oo" sound between Q and U? G-Koooooo-acks?

I do like the look of this stylistically and am very interested by the fact it has both Tomino and Anno involved in the story. Gundam Infinite Misery? Here's hoping.
