Right guys, I need your help here. I love robots, and when people mention robots in anime the Gundam series is mentioned in most cases. Now I've never seen any of the Gundam movies or series' and I'd like to start. I know there are various mangas and various tv series and even movies but the problem is simple; which order do I collect them all in?!

I mean there's just so many, for example Gundam SEED and Gundam Wing, which do I collect first? Can someone please list EVERY Gundam manga/anime/movie and tell me in which order I should read/watch them please, much apreciated.

I was on a huge Gundam Download spree few months ago, but just couldnt watch it all so deleted it (around 35Gigs!)
hmm, i like gundam but not so so much. but here is where i went to help starting me decie which to watch/download first.

Holy ****, that's a lot of Gundam.

Are all of those available in the UK to buy, or do I have to do some annoying online hunting for torrents and crap?

I finished Turn A Gundam last week, that's not licensed outside of japan so torrents are the only way. Only Gundam Wing, Seed some of the movies and soon Seed Destiny are available in the UK. I've not seen any of them but the Gundam Wing boxset #1 out in August looks tempting.

Man, there’s a lot to collect and most aren’t even available here. Maybe I should just contain my Gundam urges for the rest of my life because I can’t be bothered searching the internet for years trying to find all that crap.

If i may recomend one, i liked Gundam X...from what i have seen most of it. it reminds of Trigun for some reason..(must be the setting) and the Mech's does look cool.
its a fun series, and is not hardcore serius like some of the other Gundam's.
and i also enjoyed most of Gundam Zeta (kind of serius but a calssic imo)

LEVEL UP! - My rank is now....EVIL GENIUS...*que pokemon levl up music* lol

I just want to see mecha, but if I watch one series I want to see the rest of it. Some of those series' look like they will be hard to aquire, which will make me lose my mind. I hate it when I badly want to watch something but can't find it online.

believe me, almost all of the gundams i have listed i have found a torrent or two for each of them (excluding around 3 of them)
and most of the ons i downlaoded were the Dual Audio ones...which rocks!

Right, in that case I shall finish watching Serial Experiments Lain and Chrono Crusade first. Once those two are done with, I will begin my quest to watch the entire Gundam series. I sense it may be a long and hard one!

There's absolutely no reason for you to collect them in chronological order! As long as you know the basics of what Gundam is all about, you can watch them in whatever order you feel like.

You shouldn't really talk about downloading licensed anime for free though :wink:

True, but I can't buy it from the UK so I have no choice but to get it fansubbed. I don't like downloading things which I can buy but if the company isn't giving me the option to support them by buying their product then I shall have to resort to a path which will cause me to lose some dignity. A small price to pay in order to see some mecha action. :D

You could get a hack code for your DVD player/PC and buy R1 DVDs! At least you'd be supporting the anime industry that way ^__^

Region 1 dvd's mean USA, so it will obviously have english subs.
(japans region is 2, same as the uk but some different stuff like encoding or something....not sure)
also Bandai have licensed a lot of Gundam stuff, so if you are considering to buy the all or something then be prepared to shell out some £££

Well I'd rather buy it than spend hours download the whole thing. If it's got lots of mecha action then it's worth every penny for me. So you guys are saying that most of the Gundam series isn't out in the UK but is available from America?

* Mobile Suit Gundam Series / Movies
* Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Series / Movies
* Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
* Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack (movie: 1988)

* Super Deformed Gundam
* Mobile Suit Gundam F91 (movie: 1991)

* Mobile Suit Victory Gundam
* Mobile Fighter G Gundam
* New Mobile Report Gundam Wing
* Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team

* Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO
* Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny
* Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73 Stargazer (ONAs: 2006)

As to how much of it is actually good... that is a tougher question :p. Personally, of the UK releases, I would highly recommend only First Gundam Movie 1 and er... 3. Though you'd want to watch 2 as well obviously :p Seed is a pretty good introduction, but the more you watch of other series', the more obviously flawed it becomes. Wing is the same, but far worse... though the upcoming boxsets may be tempting as a cheap way into the series. Don't even consider Seed Destiny until you've ascertained whether you liked Seed AND you've discovered any latent masochistic urges in yourself. It plainly sucks.

Edit: Also, important to note that most of the series produced after Victory Gundam bare no relation to each other and the series that came before which formed one long continuity.

Well I watched the first episode of Gundam Wing to see if it was any good. It wasn't too bad, it didn't totally grip me to the screen but I enjoyed it. I may check out Gundam SEED first because it's the latest one, but then agian SEED looks like it has better animation quality compared to Wing. So once I watch SEED, Wing may feel a little cheap or something. I think I'll watch the first five episodes of Gundam Wing online and if I find it good enough I'm going to buy the boxsets that are on sale at Play.com.

Time for another shameless plug!

Have a search through the forums, there's enough threads with Gundam discussion and recommendations to get you started. Personal recommendations to get started on are SEED, 08th MS Team and the original movie trilogy.

Wing or Seed are probably the best places to start. As Kupoartist says, Seed is by far the better series of the two, but Wing (and the Endless Waltz movie which follows it) is the cheapest and the most common introduction to gundam. For those reasons it is better to start with Wing, but, if you don't like it, try Seed anyway. If you like Seed, follow it up with the original Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy.

Generally speaking though, the only other UK Gundam release worth getting is Char's Counterattack, but only after you've seen the first gundam movie trilogy and the Zeta Gundam TV Series (Avaliable in the US but not over here). You should watch the Zeta series anyway, as it is widely regarded as the best of the various Gundam series. Ignore F91 and the 0083 Movie, both are highly condensed versions of longer stories, reduced to near incomprehensibility. 0080 and 08th MS Team are also worth checking out.

Finally, It is also worth noting that Gundam Seed Destiny (the sequel to Seed) is by no means as bad as Kupoartist implies. It is by no means a good series and is significantly worse than Wing, but it starts off well, it just gets progressively worse and worse until it concludes with a disastrously bad last ten episodes.

CC is perhaps worth seeing, but I cannot fathom at all why it is regarded as actually "good". It's Gundam: Advent Children from where I'm standing.

Oh, it is. You pretty much substantiate why I find it so bad after this sentence.
