Overseas The Discotek Media Thread (plus AnimEigo)

Will get the Konosuba S2 Steelbook to go with the first season steel I got, and probably Tales of Phantasia, since I have most of the other "Tales of" anime.

UY movie 5 is the only one for me on there. That's probably just as well since the Yuki Yuna box set is out the same day.

I'd hoped UY5 would be out earlier than December, but it is what it is.

It's a decent enough movie, but a weird one for me. I've always felt as though the original anime ended with the fourth movie as that brought the Oshii/Yamazaki TV era to a close. Rewatching that recently was a poignant (and confusing) experience.

Nothing that followed was quite the same: new studios, new staff, and most importantly no Akemi Takada character designs. None of it looked as good as the first four movies or even some of the later TV stuff.

So, uhh, yeah. Getting that one.

I quite like the designs in UY5 since it feels like the characters have grown a bit, which fits with the themes of the story. It's just a shame we don't get a real pay-off for that since the ending is almost identical to the final scene of Only You. That final moment of them running away together never felt like enough.

So, Discotek will be at Otakon on July 31st July 30th and will be holding a panel with some announcements

UPDATE: has since moved to Saturday evening on July 30th local time

as for what may be mentioned at the panel....

Gunbuster

Sounds like the dub is mostly done outside of some tweaks and things and is generally ready to go.
There will be other things but, as like last time, the panel is only an hour long so, keep the scale of expectations in check.

Stock Update - Discotek has confirmed they will be letting go four of their titles once the stock has run out. They are pretty niche to be fair, but for mecha fans this is worth having a look into when you have the time:

Hmm I had the Galactic trio there on my wishlist for the next RS Discotek sale. Will have to keep an eye on them.

Sasuraiger hasn't been out a month yet, so that's surprising. I'm glad I grabbed it already (or I will be glad if it gets better than its tepid first episode...).

Acrobunch and Galaxy Cyclone Braiger are now no longer available from Rightstuf just as a heads up.

Absolute MEGATON.

We hoped, but we never truly believed. Until now. God bless Discotek.

Manga soon to be completely released in English after a couple of aborted attempts 20-odd years ago, a new ~50 episode TV series airing in months, and now this, the Holy Grail of UY. If this is a dream, don't wake me up.

I am shock. I figured we might get the UY OAVs next and then maybe, maaaaaybe the TV series if the new show is a breakout hit, so this is a massive surprise. Either the movies are selling well or they're taking a gamble on the success of the new show and want to have the first set out in time to ride the wave or increased publicity for the franchise. It's good news for us in any case.

Between the UK VHS release being cancelled after 8 volumes, and importing the US DVDs having been such an expensive proposition, I only have about a quarter of the series, and that's a random selection of volumes I bought second-hand on eBay.

Sherlock Hound is probably my least favourite of the early series that Miyazaki worked on, but I'll certainly still be picking it up. Anne of Green Gables, Marco, or Heidi would be better, bolder choices though.

Urusei Yatsura is another great announcement. I've never seen the series and I'm not sure I can commit to 195 episodes but at the right price I'd be mighty tempted. Still hoping that AL brings across the movies in a nice box set but I'm close to caving ...

From all that Discotek announced yesterday, looks like I'll only be getting:

City Hunter Movie and Specials (I will have all of CH, then)
Cat's Eye 2 (I have the first season from Discotek and also the Nozomi DVD boxset with both seasons)
A-ko 3 (Only because I got the first two sets)
The Princess and the Pilot (I have the NIS America Premuim boxset, but will most likely double-dip for this one)

I guess the Urusei Yatsura TV announcement is pretty big news to most, but it's not a series I would be interested in, so no excitement here, lol. I didn't buy any of the UY movies Discotek released either.

Having seen all six movies at the start of this year, and ordering four of them at the last minute in the RightStuf birthday sale, I for one am looking forward to buying and seeing the whole 195 episode series.

.....well, that's my retirement plan sorted.

It seems that To Be Hero & To Be Heroine will be limited to 2000 copies, rather than 1500.

Also, The Princess and the Pilot will be limited to 1500 copies.

Both were confirmed on Discotek's Instagram and on the RightStuf listings.
