the first box was going to be the only one they did.

Remember Mai-Hime was licenced in the middle of the anime crash they had in America a few years ago so they didn't want to waste money and go bankrupt.

Now the markets picked up, they wanted to give back to the fans, and hence where vol 7's box came from

tbf i only bought vol 1 for the t-shirt anyway ^^

i never knew about the 'anime crash' but i understand them giving back to the fans...i mean that first box was uber lame...its so flimsy lol.

I’ve been watching R.O.D the TV recently and I’m loving it. I thought I’d check out to see what was available in the way of art boxes or box-sets and came across this one.

It looks like an ordinary box set but the thing is it claims to be limited edition and costs £100 and upwards but I can’t figure out why. Does anyone know anything about what it includes or what it’s made of? Perhaps it’s leather bound?

I've got the first half of the Cowboy Bebop boxset. I also have the Please Teacher boxset. Unfortunately it's Region 1, so I need to wait to get a multi-region DVD player.

What do you all think of the ADV thinpack collections?

Here are some of the ADV thinpacks I own.

Extras are nice, but money savings are better! Thinpacks all the way!

I'm split on this, for a series i really like i hope they have a good boxset out. For examply the Haruhi boxset looks great value for money. Same goes for an anime that i don't hate but don't like enough to spend alot of money.

Thinkpacks are great and so are good boxsets. Enough to please everyone i would think.

I Agree on the shelf space thing. I do like Thin cases but in the format of season or a complete show.
I thought you do get extra special features if you wait. plus you tend to get better artwork.

For example i would like to have the EVA Platinum box set more than the Volumes (platinum or normal)

I don't own a thinpak set yet so I'm not entirely sure what they're like, but they're better than nothing (nothing being just the plain dvd releases), and at the current time, ADV aren't going to release any 'normal' box sets or volume 1 + box releases.. they even said it seems very unlikely that they ever would do so at the London Expo last year.. but I'm sure they could make an effort with thinpaks.
In America of course it's a different matter.. they get it all, but meh thinpaks ftw but just for the artbox in the UK, full series 'perfect collections' are always welcome though.

Even when it's audio commentary by people who had nothing to do with making the show they're talking about and in many cases may actually know nothing about the show?

Play.com Has listed a few of the more popular animes that have box sets in America but don't over here; until they are released obviously
