The Box Set Thread!

I had this fantastic R.O.D the TV box thing delivered this morning (after paying £12.50 in customs charges) and I’m rather chuffed with it. As you can see, it’s a kind of thin-pak in the style of a book with a faux leather covering. It comes with volume one (R1) of the series and a couple of post-card type inserts. It can house eight discs in all, which is one more than the full series. Perhaps that’s so you can put the Read or Die OVA in it too. So now I’ll have one spare disc of volume 1 and seven empty DVD cases. Do I keep them or chuck them? hmmm.

I love box sets!

Looks very nice, I would keep the boxes in the cupboard somewhere if you do plan on selling them in the future. I'm now waiting for my Haruhi boxset to appear :(

The cover art on my Paranoia Agent boxset is very good though, but again just made with thick card.

I had that box but I didn't like it so I traded it for the proper boxset. Not because I wanted it because it was bigger, just because the proper one seemed more stable.

What’s the proper box like? I mentioned it earlier in this thread as it costs a fortune but doesn’t appear to boast any obvious special features.

Nyu, I will keep the other boxes just in case.

It's just an artbox with all 7 volumes in it. It just didn't seem as flimsy as that collectors box you have.

It’s not flimsy. You leave my collectors box alone! It’s not like we’re prone to earthquakes or anything.

And besides, after swapping the Chrono Crusade thin-pak for your full sized version, I haven’t any room left!!

And swapping that boxset gave me room for Kinos Journey and Last Exile. :p

Did you enjoy the Extra Classes on the Chrono Crusade extras by the way? I thought they were pretty entertaining.

I know what you mean. It's a welcome change from the clean opening and closings, English dub crew interviews with a couldn't care less factor of 95% and a bunch of trailers for unrelated shows.

They drive me mad. The daft thing is I only ever watch anime subbed but for some reason can’t resist listening to a few minutes of the commentaries. And they’re always the same, with Hillary Haag saying something like “I don’t even know which one of these characters I dubbedâ€

It's true that a lot of the time in these commentaries they know hardly nothing about the production of the show or even the show itself and then seem to get bored talking about the show and just start spouting a load of crap. It's more annoying when they seem to try to be taking all the credit for the show not mentioning anything about it being Japanese.

i posted this on another thread but i thought it'd be more relavent to this thread also.

basically its 2 boxsets
- Hana Yori Dango Season 1 (R3) DVD

you can see the little strap..if you pull it up, it will lift all the goods out for you, instead of you strugling to pick it out with your fingers.

I already mentioned this on my anime collection, but since I saw this thread, I'll mention it again.

I had got the Evangelion: Platinum Edition Box Set off eBay for £51 when the normal price was £100.

If anyone is interested in the R1 collection of FLCL, the Ultimate Edition is now in stock - my copy finally arrived yesterday! Sadly I don't have a digital camera so can't show you its awesomeness in pictures. Instead, here's a written reason as to why you should buy it too:

-All six episodes across three discs
-Director's commentary for each episode
-English language VA commentary for selected episodes
-Full-length storyboard to scene comparisons
-Bonus disc with art gallery, music videos and the original Pillows promo vid for Ride on Shooting Star
-Nine FLCL logo stickers
-Set of postcards
-Redeemable postcard for free T shirt (available to US/Canadian customers only but still...)
-Collector's booklet with translation notes, interviews and fully translated reproduction of the manga section

The discs come in a four-section fold-out card case, which is inside a glossy card slipcase. The whole thing comes in a sturdy, glossy collector's box.

I've seen some shiny box sets in my time (the R1 Speed Grapher and my R2 GitS SAC tin being my personal treasures) but this tops them all. Considering that FLCL is such a cult classic, it's good to see Synch Point really go to town with the quality of extras. Of course, the show is a masterpiece to begin with. Go gerrit. Now. :)

I ordered mine at the same time as Gunbuster, gotta wait on that being in stock before they send them out. Not in a hurry since I already have the original release of FLCL+artbox which will be going to a friend once my new collection arrives.

I wanted to get that Death Note Live Action box set, but instead of shipping it over and its like £15 more when i last checked than the boxset i got from CDWOW's Region 3 section, Same stuff, just not in a as snazzy collection.

i got it for around £17
and i wanted to get the Hong kong region 3 version because the extra disc content was sub'd however, this region 3 korean version does not have eng subs...at least the flashy presentation and the nice boxset makes up for it.....i guess?
