Tales Of The Abyss And Turn A Gundam Licensed Bandai!

The North American anime distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced at its Comic-Con International panel on Thursday that it acquired the license to the Tales of the Abyss and Turn A Gundam television anime series. Tales of the Abyss is a 26-episode anime adaptation of the popular Namco Bandai role-playing game of the same name. Turn A Gundam is the 1999 television anime series written and directed by Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino for Gundam's 20th anniversary. The series also features music by Yoko Kanno and mechanical designs by Blade Runner's Syd Mead.

I'm still doing cartwheels over the news about Turn A! :D

I actually lept out of my seat when i saw the news, at first i thought it was a joke but they've ACTUALLY licenced it. Shows Bandai have been listening to their fans lately, but i wonder what type of DVD sets it will come out on?

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, if you're listening I need both of these!

Looking at the possibility of both now :).

Andrew

If there is a quick turn around (no pun intended) for the UK release, i would hold off buying the Region 1 DVDs for sure!

I'd be prepared to wait for a region 2 release of Turn A if it was just confirmed that we'd be getting it.

And in a feat of major optimism, I'm gonna start saving for it right away!

I'm personally always up for a mix of stuff being released. It doesn't bother me if a show is a few years old so long as it's quality stuff.

Heck, look how excited people are about Outlaw Star! And how old is that now?

Plus, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact there's plenty of new or at least fairly contemporary stuff out there right now.

Why wont they get round to releasing anime which isn't old...

Nothing wrong with old anime. I guess the newer titles are harder to get or something along those lines.

Not dissing old anime in any way, it's just annoying that we don't get any new stuff, it's all been pretty top notch recently.

:D Who woulda thunk it? ∀ Gundam, Dirty Pair... Things are really moving in the right direction.

Sir, I challenge you to a duel. Note to distributors: Please stop releasing all the new crap and release everything we don't yet have from the 80's and early 90's.

Deliberate troll, yeah?

I didn't take it as such.

I think there's always gonna be a split between folks who want the new stuff and folks who want to see older shows or re-releases of shows they saw previously.

A mix of both is a good thing. Plus, age / newness is no indication of quality.

I just sat dutifully through a fairly new-ish anime for the purposes of reviewing it for this site. Not gonna reveal what it was just yet, except to say that it was a pretty well turned out production. Digital animation, some nice CG effects, up-to-the-minute designs... It was also MIND NUMBINGLY mediocre and had one of the creakiest scripts I've ever heard ANYWHERE!

I've also been fortunate to grab a few older features like Detonator Orgun, Riding Bean and Venus Wars on DVD lately. Those shows definitely don't feel modern or cutting edge. But they've been some of my most fun experiences in anime over the last few weeks!

No, I know he wasn't "purely" trolling, but that doesn't make the statement any less sensible. Not only is age "obviously" unrelated to quality, one of the main things that killed the industry in the US was going "oh ****, this is new, best license it and release it all nooooowoowowowwwww!!!".
