Strike Witches Season 3 details revealed

While news that a third season was green-lit way back in 2013, new details have been revealed for the upcoming third season of Strike Witches after the third/last episode of Operation Victory Arrow was theatrically released back in Japan.

Unlike the first two seasons and the OVA which featured the 501st Joint Fighter Wing (Strike Witches), the third season will instead feature the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing (Brave Witches).

Did Strike Witches get any good? I tried watching Season 1 and got about 7 episodes into it before dropping it. I liked the concept but I just found the characters very uninteresting and it underutilized the setting. I never would have thought it would get 3 seasons, OVAs and a movie.

My thoughts exactly. I bought the first two seasons on DVD in the assumption that I would enjoy them, but I had to force myself to keep watching up to the end of season two. I know it has it's fans but I found it completely underwhelming for the same reasons as you.
 
I really enjoyed the first anime series but at times I felt like the second stayed too close to home and felt like a rehash of the first at times.
 
I have to admit the fan-service bit that always weirded me out a little was the girl that slept naked and that's basically just used as an excuse to show you her tits. It just sort of came out of nowhere after a good few eps of fan-service that was always more on the suggestive side than being properly 'out there' in terms of nudity.

I remember when I watched Strike Witches the first time, saw it was rated 12 and expected minimal fan service than BAM bare breasts. I was legitimately shocked, not because I was offended or anything but because it just kind of comes out of nowhere. See also, Ga Rei Zero. Getting absolutely blind-sided by nudity when you're not expecting it is weird.
 
It's the otaku culture of Japan that brings shows like this back for more seasons......

I mean come on you don't expect great shows like

Baccono
HOTD
spice and wolf
And many other non moe shows to get a second season.... It's always about the moe in Japan

I must admit, it would be a bit surreal to see cute anime girls that wave the Swastika around.
