Actually, he wasn't called Mario that was in Donkey Kong - he was Jumpman. He first appeared as Mario in Super Mario Bros on the NES - which still predated Sonic by about six years.

Wasn't he stilled called jumpman in some of the game & watches? i think he was for some though i do have one with him named mario...

He was called Mario in the Game&Watch games, and contrary to my earlier statement, it was in them that he was first named, a year before SMB came out in arcades. Whoops.

Speakin of SMB3, did anyone see that speedrun where the guy finished the game in about 12mins? Impressive stuff.

i did see the speed run...that was impressive...i can only complete it very fast if i cna get both the secret paths..and without dying..i can't remember my best time on it....

He's a fat plumber! He's proof that you don't need to be beautiful to succeed in life. He's got a princess for a girlfriend, is a star of no less than three sports, and is a movie star! He's an inspiration to us all.

Sonic would beat mario...mainly because of mario's clogged arteries, they aren't good for his health.

Sonic is a legend in my view. Mario is well known, so respect to him, but doesn't quite cut it for me. Although, Nintendo and Sonic Team have just totally overused them...
Golf? Pinball? Medicine?! No wonder the NHS is screwed if we have plumbers working on us!
