2D: Sonic. Mario put up a good fight, but the blinding speed of the blue furball was just too much for him.

3D: Mario. No competition at all. Sonic was too busy trying to go faster than anyone else too look where he was going, and slammed straight into a brick wall.

Gotta go 2D though, Sonic games were a staple of my childhood. Must've completed the Mega Drive ones a dozen times each. Ah, those were the days.

this vote isn't as easy as it seems, Sonic was origianally the best of the best, taking the gaming world(which wasn't to big at the time) by storm. And it did the same for me, and as mario appeared, most people started to go for that, yet Sonic was still the best to me at the time. Now though it is more harder to choose, yes he is great in his classics, but the move to 3-D wasn't the best one. Mario on the other hand made me change for a while to him as it was mario 64 that i was amazed by.....but overall i would have to say that sonic is still the better.....as his classics just where and still are almost unmatchable

Games wise Mario wins it. There are so many great Mario games, Mario 64, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros etc. But out of the two as characters Sonic would easily win as he is much cooler. I voted Mario tho as he seems to be losing...
